Dean Resonator Chrome S

If you think Les Pauls are heavy, wait until you heft the knee-buckling weight of this steel-bodied bad boy. The beautifully proportioned, heavily chromed body features authentic segmented, rolled-rim f holes and an unusual arched back, while the National-style resonator pan has a single rear-facing cone and a traditional diamond-patterned perforated coverplate. The well-made mahogany neck (which continues right through the body as a tone bar) features 19 large frets, a fairly deep profile, Grover machineheads and a traditional dot inlay pattern on the rosewood fretboard.

Dean has optimized the action to enable clean, comfortable fretting and enough string height for clatter-free slide work. The enormous tone brimmed with pure, unfiltered blues soul and rumbled with a deep, throaty resonance. Although the sound was incredibly loud, the tone was neither brash nor metallic but rounded and warm, with a characteristic midrange honk. Picked notes had a powerful but soft attack that resulted in impressive sustain, and unmuted slide playing was drenched in the instrument's natural reverberation. If you haven't experienced the gutsy vibrations and soulful wails of a true metal-bodied resonator, this Dean could be just the thing to get your mojo working.
