Tab tip #38982

Know thine guitarist that thine tabs are scribed about.

I got pissed that I couldn't play a certain Yngwie tab, then realized that there was markers for a 22nd and a 24th fret?

WTF? Yngwie plays late-60s/early 70-s Stratocasters, 21-frets....obvious shenanigans, but possibly unnoticed by some.

It just goes to show that not all tabs are created equal.
weird tappin technique
by phayded on Tue Nov 06, 2007 12:39 pm
Was at a gig last night and saw a guy doing a Rh tapping run while resting the palm of his hand on his trem arm and dipping it before each tap basically gaining an extra note from his right finger

it was a basic 15 fret tap to a 12-9-7 LH pull off

has anyone else ever seen this done ? has it got a stupid name?
anyone tried it and what do they think??
starting out
by soulstorm7 on Tue Nov 06, 2007 2:59 pm
dad says one thing, experienced friends say another. to be honest, its just overwhelming. some people say practice scales, some say chords, some say riffs, some say speed and accuracy with a metronome. what are some good things for a beginner to learn and not get friggin bored ?
notes on the fret board
by Anonymous on Thu Nov 08, 2007 2:10 am
I have started learning music theory and right now im trying to memorize all the notes on the fretboard. I went to a site and printed out a diagram with all the natural notes but it didnt have the sharps and flats. Can someone tell me the where the sharps and flats are or give me a link to a website where i can find them.

found this site for printing out scales etc though its for bass it covers most stringed instruments and i think it's ideal for anyone wanting a print out of a scale or chord

I suck at guitar
by Walk_From_Hell on Sun Nov 25, 2007 4:31 am
I've seriously been neglectic my practicing lately, I only play like 30 minutes a week. I suck, I feel ashamed that I haven't been playing my guitar that much.

I don't think I can progress any further on my own, and can't affor lessons right now.

Has anyone ever else gotten like this?

Pardon if this is a pointless post.
Rock Discipline

Hey do any of you guys follow Petrucci's Rock Discipline relgiously? If so, do you feel it has improved your playing? Also, did it teach you how to sweep pick? Thanks
Post a Lick / Riff!
by Blackened on Tue Nov 27, 2007 12:25 am
I've had this Idea for a while. Title says it all.
Post what ever riffs / licks / tricks you might want
to share with the dean forum.

It doesn't have to be complicated as long as you find it interesting or worth knowing.

Bass players post your knowledge too.

I'll start us off with something very similar to the Primal concrete
sledge (Twisted Evil) "solo." Which I never bothered to learn note for
note so I just learned the notes that dime used and edited it to my
likings.

e|---11--10--8------------------------------------------------------------
B|-----------------11--10--8--7-------------------------------------------
G|----------------------------------8--7------------------------------------
D|-----------------------------------------10--8--7--5--4----------------
A|------------------------------------------------------------6--5----------
E|------------------------------------------------------------------8--6--5

I didn't add any hammer ons or pull offs because thats up to
you to determine where you want to put them. Add in slides,
retrace your steps back and down the notes, basically spice it
up. Get your imagination rolling.

Use this as a template.

scale question..?
by kissfan1489 on Fri Nov 30, 2007 4:48 am
ok...say im playing the A minor panatonic..

A C D E G A C D E G A C
-------------------------------5--8---------------
-------------------------5--8---------------------
-------------------5--7---------------------------
-------------5--7---------------------------------
-------5--7---------------------------------------
-5--8---------------------------------------------

thats in standard tuning, a440...

i hardly play in standard, i play in drop d, 1/2 step, and whole step (d,g,c,f,a,d)..

so those notes are different when you play the scale in a different tuning thats a given...

my question is, when im playing the A minor scale, or any other scale..do i have to move it so the notes match up, as if it were in standard. or can i just play it....?

sorry if its confusing, it hard for my to explain this.

thanks for any help in advance.
