Writing and recording
by Walk_From_Hell on Mon Apr 02, 2007 8:48 pm
Okay, this is pretty early I think for me, only been playing a year and a half. But I've been experimenting with writing riffs..not solos yet because I can't really do that yet. But I was wondering if anybody had any tips on writing and any tips on some really basic/cheap recording gear. I'm not in a band yet but I've been wanting to start looking around for some people to play with. And the only documentation I have of my riffs is me tabbing them in powertabs.

And also I was wondering becuase I'm getting pretty serious about being a musician how long did it take any of you guys to get into a band or to be playing at the level of a lead guitarist...Not that I'm saying everyone learns and practices at the same rate but just a general time period...Because I always thought maybe I'd be good enough when I'm 18, 15 now so like 4 and half years of playing.

I mean I'm not terrible now really just not very good either.

Also how much could lessons help my playing because so far all I've learned is from Videos,books,internet, and tabs.

Any insite you guys have would be greatly appreciated and sorry for the long ass post.

by Walk_From_Hell on Sat Apr 07, 2007 1:50 am
Is Walk played in Drop D or Step Down from standard (D standard?) Tuning? I can play it both ways but I just want to be accurate. So does anyone know how Dime played it or can someone give me some accurate tabs please?

There is a huge amount of talent here in this forum. I have a few Dean vids but this one I did on my Strat since I just finished re-working it. can you offer suggestion of what I can work on to improve my overall playing? I'm not looking to make a career at it but I do take pride and enjoy playing and the satisfaction from it more than aything in the world.

Clips from my new Line6 TonePort
by bsmith on Tue Apr 17, 2007 8:37 pm
Here's some clips of me trying out my new Line6 TonePort for the first time. Don't laugh to hard at my sucky-ass playing.

Here's what I used to record:

MLF->GNX3->Line6 TonePort->PC->Ableton Live 4

http://support.datasofttechnologies.com/sounds/backinblack.mp3 I play the lead part in the beginning but then just rhythm work from there on out. I’m still working on learning the lead.

http://support.datasofttechnologies.com/sounds/MasterOfPuppets.mp3 It took me a little bit in the beginning to get on track….

http://support.datasofttechnologies.com/sounds/MississippiQueen.mp3 My attempt at a little lead work…

http://support.datasofttechnologies.com/sounds/mouthforwar.mp3 I may not be quite in tune with Dime but whatever….
