Randall Warhead X2
on Tue Dec 10, 2013 6:17 am
Dear fellow Dime-gear-nerds,
I might have a shot at a secondhand X2.
Im kinda interested.
How are they and what would be a proper price?
Ofcourse I read quite some positive reviews, but hey, here are the experts
Any thoughts about 'em?
I also think they are quite rare, so that alone might be a good reason to get it.
on Sun Dec 08, 2013 2:01 pm
Wearing some camo shorts and a black tee. Little later I plan to play guitar loudly with the windows open about kickoff time. Might even have a shot of Jack Black in honor of Dime.
Good pedal for Hellbound?
As the title suggests I'm wondering what would be a good pedal to use to get Dime's sound (my brain wants to say Flanger but I have a feeling it's not) on Hellbound... In Ft. Worth Texas!
Thought I'd share a picture of my still forming Dime collection.
Recently acquired my first Dean (thanks for the applause)...LOVE my Washy's, but why did I wait so long to buy my first Dean?? No matter, cuz I picked a GREAT one. Thanks in part to my constant fee Bay compulsions and a bunch of sleeping Dime fanatics. Very nice place you have here...look forward to lurking, learning...and eventually will give you some "quality" posts.
I know this has been discussed before, but wanted some opinions. I can get a PQ-3 for a not bad price, but I want to know if I should wait till I find a PQ-4. They will be used in a Dime rig so I guess I'm asking if the 3 does the job or is a 4 far superior? Going for the VDOP/FBD tone.
Wanna learn how to tune to Sandblasted Skin?
Check out my video!
Tell me how bad my tone is and how much I suck!

Another episode of
Signed 2ST on feebay, look at the price!?!?
Anyone else see this guy trying to get 3Gs for a 2ST? I message him to ask if it was a 2 or 3ST. He replied he wasn't sure but it must be a 3 cause it has a Floyd and Dimebucker???? It is a 2ST, 8 digit serial and no USA stamp. He wouldn't confirm the bolt on neck. I told him he was asking way too much, he responded that a guy just turned down an offer for $3500 for a 332 so his must be worth more. I wished him luck and had a good laugh. Sure hope no one gets sucked into this one. Getting sick of people trying to score big off a lost soul.
Need High Resolution pictures of Dimes Waving Rebel
Hi, just wanted to ask if anyone had any high res pics of Dimes Waving Rebel guitars or even a well done custom that I can use as reference to have one custom painted? I'd prefer the Stealth but the D3 would work too. If anyone has one or even better a few please PM me and I'll give you my email to sent the pics.
Thanks, Getcha Pull!!!
|With great sadness in our hearts, the man we know as Bill Lawrence in the music industry passed away on November 2, 2013 at approximately 9:20AM.
Bill was a strong and courageous man. Even in his last few days, Bill fought to live. He'd talk about Music, Pickups & Guitars -- and Life, and we, at his company, were still working because this is what Bill Lawrence wanted to know -- that his company & legacy is carrying on as usual.
We will miss the Bill Lawrence Mighty Force. Bill brought so much, and he wanted to stay here on earth to keep giving. One thing, yesterday as preparing the necessary paperwork, required is Designation of Race. In Honor of Bill Lawrence and his wishes, we included Human.
A Memorial Service is being planned later this week in Southern California. More details to follow.
anyone else who thinks Power Metal (1988) is great?
on Thu Oct 31, 2013 12:07 pm
For several weeks now, I have been listening to Power Metal.
And man, that album is cool.
Ok, it's no Slaughtered, Primal Concrete Sledge or Suicide Note Pt. 2 but in it's own way I think it's very good.
And I mean not only "interesting as a prelude", but really genuinly cool.
Hey. Trying to get the same tune. Im in C#,but it doesnt sound right! what to do now? i know about that he always tuned in a strange way
L500 XL USA question
on Sun Oct 20, 2013 4:47 pm
Hi there lads 'n lasses,
Im thinking of buying a Bill Lawrence USA L500 XL, to put in my Shadow ML.
when I Google for it, I see the name written on the actual pickup.
I really don't want that.
Is it a sticker (ergo: removable) or is it really printed
on the pup?
Randall RG1503 channel swtiching
I have a gcx looper system and was wondering if anyone had any information on how I could use the gcx to switch the channels on the randall. I emailed randall and they said to talk to rjm so I have. I wondering if they are talking about using the "switch gizmo"

Considering selling my Randall Century 200?
on Sat Sep 28, 2013 8:20 pm
Just been tossing around the idea of selling my Randall Century 200. Took me forever to find the one I have but really been wanting a Marshall JCM 800 2203KK or Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier. It's not that I don't like the tone it has just looking for something different. Should I sell it? Or just hang on to it and save up for a different amp?
anyone know where i can get a replica Kiss decal like the one on Dimes dean from hell ?
i have a dean from hell but i've noticed that most ones i've seen have the dime silloette on the back of the head stock ..to where mine does not ... mine only has a serial number ... whats the difference ?

What string gauges did Darrell use for "I'm Broken" ?
Seems like a wound string in what would normally be G position instead of a bare one would sound better for lower tunings, any feedback?
Just tried it with EB 9's on a 24.75 scale neck, I imagine you more experienced guys are laughing at me right now knowing what I discovered.
Did a quick lame search and didn't turn up anything definitive.

Just a check up because I know a few here have his rig nailed. I was browsing the phil anselmo tumblr tag, and there is a picture of dime and his board is in the pic too... he has a vox pedal next to his digitech and the vox has a green pedal grip. What is this ? Volume control ? Wah ? I thought a cry baby was always there.
seems they made a production run of these imports but they are hard to find/rare. Why did they stop making them?

USA Dean from Hell question...
I have a question for those of you with an original USA dean from Hell.
Are the screws on the back plates all the same? Or are they different?
upgrade bridge on Dean Ml 79F
on Sat Aug 31, 2013 11:19 am
Hi all, I ask this question: I have a Dean ML 79F purchased in 2010 with the intention of modifying it with various improvements, I bought an original Floyd Rose FR100, to mount it on my Dean what should I do, placing it above his head, it seems that the measure is equal, but the original pivot are different from those of the OFR, I can mount the original floyd on the old bridge or pivot, you must also change the pivot? does anyone have experience on this thing?

the filthy effect in Strengh Beyond Strength
on Fri Aug 30, 2013 10:33 am
Okidoki gals 'n guys:
Since I have never read anything about this before, let's start this topic now.
In the guitartone of Strength Beyond Strength, there is... "something extra".
It is not in Dime's general tone, only in Strength Beyond Strength.
This....filthy gutteral hollow extra thing, like you're standing in a big wide pipe or something. Very aggressive.
You can also hear it very clearly on the live recording of Strength, on 101 Proof.
Gary Holt (Exodus) uses it too every now and then (example song: Magnum Opus)
I know how to get is myself:
I use a chorus, turn down completely the rate and depth and the thing comes out of the pre-delay (toy a bit with pre-delay and level and you're there)
I had phaser or something once, that did the same.
So, the secret is the pre-delay probably.
Just wondering how Dime did it and if there is anyone else digging that special sound. I really LOVE it, it's soooooo filthy....

This might be one of the greatest Dimebag tattoos, I've ever seen.
Oldest rg100es to date. Anyone know of an older one?
on Tue Aug 27, 2013 12:48 am
I just got this Randall Rg100ES off of Craigslist last week. I own quite a few of these, and have sold quite a few of these. This is the oldest model I have seen yet. It's dated October 1984. It is also signed with a big D. I asked the Randall forum if the big D stands for Don Ronald, but I never received a reply back from them. I now just assume it does. Anyone got an Rg100ES that dates earlier than this?
Some pics, rare washys, one with concrete sledge headstock
Hey guys, long time lurker, first time post in this section. Only time I ever used this forum was to sell my original 1977 dean V, serial number 770177 or something to that effect (177th one made i believe)
anyway, first pic is me a while back as a young kid, I was down in florida and a music store there had this dime 3 with the red bolt on it, had to get a pic since I was a big pantera fan as a youngster. I see this guitar was recently posted here, with a note from Rita.
Now is a washburn dime, I love the neck, and this neck without a doubt has the exact same headstock as the strange guitar dime played in the psycho holiday video, as well as monsters of rock during primal concrete sledge, the one that dean has now recreated. I've had this washburn for at least 9 years. Threw in a pic of the actual sledge guitar's headstock for a comparison. they are identical in shape, though the guitar I have is not reversed. neck is black painted all around
Happy Birthday Dimebag!! (never before seen image)

Rocktron Hush super c: Setup and adapter. (international)
Hey guys just a troubleshoot question here; i bought a Rocktron Hush Super C on ebay, and im not from the states, so im going to need to buy an australian version of the adapter and im just asking what i need to look out for so i dont blow anything up.
I/p: ac 120v 60hz
o/p: AC 9V 1500mA.
is what is written on the adapter, so do i just want to find a version that would fit into my wall socket with AC 9v 1500mA on it?
Also ill be running the Furman PQ4 and MXR Sixband in front of the amp, so to cut all the excess hissing and noise would you recommend i plug the rocktron into the effects loop or in front between the furman/mxr and the amp?
Guitar Pedal Fixing? (MXR sixband)
Hey guys, basically my mxr sixband eq is kind of frippin up, whenever my guitar lead is in the pedal and i move my guitar lead the pedal cuts in and out, i opened up the mxr and from what i could see all the wires attached all looked fine and still soldered but i noticed if anything, one of the wires attached to the battery cable was really lose and eventually broke off.
Now im going to my uncles house later today, and i was curious if i re-solder the cable back to the battery cable, and it still cuts out when i move the lead what else would you recommend or troubleshoot?

Boss metal Zone MT-2
on Sat Jul 27, 2013 2:11 pm
Hello again dudes.
I'm getting my Randall Snow camo head back today (I sold it a while back because the cab had a strange humming when playing...like a blast of hum when quieting the strings) I never experienced it with a cab before and it was only my back up head and cab so I sold it.
But I'm looking to invest in the sheepish routine of tone chasing... On a budget because I have my own tone for performance. I have a boss mt 2 and lost the manual years back. It had some good formulas and I was wondering if anyone had some they could share.
Also if anyone knows a good dime setting for it, i was reading in the dime rig thread that there was a good dime setting for the mt2 and didn't want to hijack that thread.
Hope all has been well since my last visit. Thanks.
Dimebag's Top mount Floyds.
So ive been looking at videos of people installing top mount floyd on youtube as i have never done this before it got me wondering from what i could see, is how dimebag did his?, i understand 'how' he did it, but i was curious as to how much space he had behind the floyd to pull it up for those squeels, and did he have to sacrifice having low action so he could have the floyd higher off the guitar to pull it back more?
because my floyds are atleast half an inch into my body to get my desired action height, so trying to understand how dimebags floyd rose sat about an inch above his body and not having huge action is hard for me to understand.
also does anybody have good pictures of his bridge on the Dean From Hell/Far Beyond Driven/Primal Concrete Sledge, so i can wrap my head around how it looks.
or even post your own.

I met Darrell and the rest of Pantera at a record signing in a local store when they played as support to Megadeth in September 1992. It was in Belfast, here in the U.K.
I have this photographic memory and can still see Pantera walk down this tiny pedestrian street on their way to the record store, I don't think 'cool' is a cool enough word for that moment!! I can see him extend his hand to shake mine after I told him how good I thought they were. He said "thank you man" and he had the widest grin as he shook my hand. They were all great, humble guys. Ordinary guys.
That night they played Megadeth into the dust and 21 years later I am still hanging on to those great, great times like that which happen only once. Someday, I'll get to visit his resting place God willing. He was such a great guy. I think he made the hope of becoming a great guitar player reachable for those of us who were from ordinary places with very little to our names.
Thanks Darrell, one of my happiest days.

How to set up your Furman PQ for maximum gain
on Wed Jul 03, 2013 7:49 pm
The following is a direct quote from the Furman pq3/pq6 manual, and should also be applicable to the pq4.
C. LOW LEVEL OUTPUT: Provides an output attenuated by 12 db as compared to the High Level Output. It should only be used for driving conventional instrument amps, which include preamps. Such amps can only accept low level signals without distorting.
D. HIGH LEVEL OUTPUT: Provides maximum output level at a low impedance. Use whenever a power amp is to be driven, or for most recording studio and sound reinforcement applications.
E. LOW LEVEL INPUT: Accesses the preamp section, thereby providing maximum gain. Microphones, as well as musical instruments without their own preamps (like most electric guitars and basses) should use this input.
F. HIGH LEVEL INPUT: High impedance input providing approximately unity gain.
Use for most studio, sound reinforcement, and room equalization applications.
The Low Level Input should be used when the equalizer is to serve as a preamp. This will usually occur in musical instrument applications, when it is fed by low level signals such as electric guitar or a microphone. With the Level control rotated fully clockwise, the preamp provides 26 db of gain when using the Low Level Input and High Level Output.
The High Level Input differs only in the amount of gain in the preamp stage, being a maximum of 6 db. This input should be used when the additional gain is not required. This will generally be the case in most recording studio, sound reinforcement, and room equalization applications, where a line level (high level) signal is fed into the PQ- unit and approximately unity gain is desired. Note that the Level control functions regard1ess of which input is used.
The High Level Output has a very low impedance, and will be used when the PQ- unit drives most signal processing gear, mixers, crossovers, or power amps. The Low Level Output provides 12 db attenuation in case the PQ- unit must drive another preamp (conventional instrument amp). The output impedance of the Low Level Output is about 6200 ohms, so it cannot drive 600 ohm loads nor should it be connected to very long lines, as partial loss of high frequencies may result.
