Moving strap button on Washburn Dime
by cgg on Sat Oct 01, 2005 4:31 am
I've read here that it's possible, and that it balances the guitar similar to how the Deans are positioned.
The thing is, since I've never done this, is there anything I should know about it before I do it?
The neck joint isn't quite the same as on a Dean.....
Question on getting a good lead tone
Hey everyone, I'm in the process of learning to play lead guitar, but I've never been an equipment guru. I was looking for some advice on how to get a nice lead tone. I'm currently using a washburn dime 333 (yes i know!) with a dimebucker and i have a warhead combo amp. How do you get that clean, squealing lead sound without all the noisy crap and feedback? Every time i play a lick, it's drowned out by the feedback. Is there some pedal that would maybe help me out. Anyone care to comment?
Guitar World Poster Question

What is the story about the damage on the Dime-o-Flame?
Is that by any chance the guitar he was wearing in Columbus?
Does anyone want DFH #14 ?
Hi all its been a while and the last time i was logged on here i was when i had just received my DFH and discovered i had to sell it. Well since then i have had it on ebay, had many many , offers of all shapes and sizes but mailnly like say for instance 12 guitars and $200 bucks for it. Well i took it off ebay and deciede to keep it a little longer and maybe if i come into money i can keep it ??
In the meantime i am open to cash offers and any other arrangements you can think of. I need money and that is the only thing that is getting this guitar away fro me stupid stupid money, i am willing to keep the guitar for anyone serious about the DFH and take it off the market.
I have not opened the case for months the guitar is pretty much still an unplayed virgin even my closest friends have came to my house for a look and i have denied anyone to go near it as it is too perfect and not rightly mine i suppose.
Email me at rleadingham@gmx.net or pm me if your interested.
Oh i am also open to suggestions on how i can earn $3900 fast so i can keep the DFH !

The Randall RG100ES thread, discuss settings, pedals etc...
by rgx612a on Thu Oct 06, 2005 4:12 am
I picked up one of these a couple months ago and I've been playing and tweeking it alot. I notice the amp's kinda got a bit of a marshall jcm800 tone to it, very cool but... I find the high end sizzle of this amp kinda strong. I've been trying to dial most of it out while still keeping the tone moderately bright. I realize that sizzle is part of Dime's tone, but I'm not really interested in completely copping Dimes tone here, I want to be somewhat original.
Anyways, my rig is as follows: Yamaha rgx612a - Boss Mt-2 (set as boost) - rg100es. Very simple set up.
I'm not sure about the mt-2, it's got alot of boost to it but I find it thins the amps tone a bit, so I'm looking into an alternative, perhaps an EQ of some sort, maybe one for the loop too. Anyways what's your chain consist of? As well as settings? pedal settings?

Got a good wig at Wal Mart and some red beard dye, already had the shirt, hat and razor necklace. Looked much better than I thought.
DBD tribute guitar died after 1 week
i purchased my first dean a week ago. the dbd t last night it quit working. 1 minute i am jammin the next minute no more jammin. the pickups quit working i don't know what the hell happened but i am not pleased at all . i wanted a dean for years and finally got it after laying it away for a few months i picked it up played it for 1 week and now i have to get it fixed. i know it is not the american dean but come on man what the hell kind of quality control is going on. i am beyond mad about it even though i know it is getting fixed. i absolutley love the quitar and completely satisfied with the way it played but i don't know if i will ever buy another dean again. i have a old epiphone v that i bought in 83ish and beat the crap out of yet every time i plug it in it works flawlessly. Is this the common quality of dean i sure as hell hope not .

I hope Vinnie chooses to go this route rather than a bunch of guest vocalists.
I read in an article where dime says when he gets an ML he immediately floyd roses it and then puts the L500xl in it but he turns it upside down and puts the hot pole in the front away from the bridge. What does this mean?
Also, I have a theory about some of his gear.

Hey all, need help!! I've had my Dean O' Flame for several months now and I'm finding that I'm getting a god-awful squeal everytime I strike my low B string(especially). Some of the places I play aren't all that big so they don't mic my Warhead stack and so when I'm running my volume @ 4-5, that squeal overtakes all of my attack on my plam mutes. It's ridiculous!! Is this how the Dimebuckers are?? I don't have any problems when I plug in my Ibanez w/ EMG's......
Anyways, any info or help would be awesome seeing there are many Dimebucker users here. I do keep my pickups(in bridge) fairly close to the strings, yet I find backing them off doesn't help, nor turning down the pickup volume....

So, get every other Dime fan you know to get a shirt and wear them DEC. 10TH! (BTW, I'm not real sure if that's a school day, but it was a day everybody would remember so, if it's not a school day let's do it on a different day.) *edit* WTF WAS I THINKING HE WAS KILLED ON THE 8TH AND THE 10TH IS A SATURDAY ANY WAY SO I GUESS WE'LL DO IT ON THE 8TH. I'll keep the words brief, because as they say "pictures speak a thousand words"
Cyclone, V-max, X2....or HD-147 (line6)...need opinions
Just looking for some insight into these amps from people who have tried them or own them.....
I found a cyclone in camouflage that I like but I've never played one....This is the one I'm leaning towards but not sure how it sounds.....figured I might as well get some opinions on other amps too.
Here's what I'm looking for:
1. Bone crushing distortion.
2. Good clean tones (may not get used too often).
3. Something that sounds brutal at low volumes too.
Thanks!!!!!!

Question about an avatar I've seen..
by XxCFHxX on Tue Oct 18, 2005 2:56 am
This is a question posed to the people with the avatar that shows Dime playin the confederate flag, wearin' a cowboy hat. Ever since the first time I got on the boards and saw it, I've been wanting to see, or hear at least what song it was he was playing during that clip. I spose my question is, is it from a video file or something? Thanks

DIMEBAG's Murder Was Not Motivated By PANTERA's Breakup
John Futty of The Columbus Dispatch has issued the
following report:
Bleeding from three bullet wounds and pinned beneath a
gunman on the Alrosa Villa stage, John Brooks never
saw or heard the shotgun blast that saved his life.
Brooks was among seven people shot by Nathan Gale
after Gale stormed the stage of the North Side
nightclub with a 9 mm handgun during a DAMAGEPLAN
concert Dec. 8.
As four of the victims lay dying, Brooks became a
hostage, held in Gale's grip while concertgoers fled
and Columbus police moved in.
"Don't move, don't move," Gale told Brooks, pressing
his knees into Brooks' back and holding the gun to his
head.
Brooks told police he never saw Officer James
Niggemeyer enter the rear stage door with a shotgun
and kill Gale with a single shot to the head from 20
feet away.
"Brooks thought the gunman was going to shoot him in
the head and then all of a sudden the gunman just let
him go," according to a detective's interview with
Brooks, who scrambled off the stage when Gale fell.
The interview summary is included in a 627-page
investigative file on the case released yesterday by
police in response to a public-records request by The
Dispatch.
The division's Firearms Board of Inquiry reviewed the
investigation and determined that Niggemeyer's actions
were justified.
Supervisors agreed that the officer acted within
division policy.
The documents — including summaries of 287 interviews
with concertgoers, band members, club employees,
police officers and paramedics — fail to clear up
confusion surrounding the order in which victims were
shot or explain the motives of the 25-year-old
Marysville man responsible for the carnage.
Witnesses agreed that Gale produced the gun when he
stepped on stage and that his first target was
"Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, DAMAGEPLAN's 38-year-old
lead guitarist, who died of three gunshot wounds to
the head.
But the band's tour manager, Christopher Paluska, 39,
told police he was shot first when he tried to stop
Gale from entering the stage.
"Mr. Paluska related he grabbed the guy and this
individual turned around and shot him," detectives
reported. "After doing this, Mr. Paluska ran to the
side of the stage where someone helped him lie down
and he watched as Dimebag Darrell Abbott . . . got
shot by the shooter."
Paluska and Brooks, among three survivors of the
shootings, did not return phone calls from The
Dispatch yesterday.
Brooks, a 34-year-old stage technician for the band,
was standing behind speakers on the right side of the
stage when Gale advanced on Abbott from the other side
of the stage.
He said Gale shot Abbott, then shot the band's
security chief, Jeffrey "Mayhem" Thompson, as they
rushed to help the guitarist.
Thompson died of three gunshot wounds.
The others who died trying to intervene were Nathan
Bray, a 23-year-old concertgoer from Grove City who
was shot once in the chest, and Erin Halk, a
29-yearold club employee from Columbus who was shot
six times.
Brooks was shot in the right hand, right thigh and
right side as he wrestled with the gunman. He said he
remembers Gale shooting someone else as they grappled.
The other surviving victim, concertgoer Travis
Burnett, of Gahanna, said he jumped on stage during
the struggle and confronted Gale, who looked up and
said, "Get the ---- out of here." Burnett said he
tried to put Gale in "a wristlock," but the gun went
off and a bullet grazed Burnett's left forearm.
Burnett fled as "he heard three more gunshots that he
believed were aimed at his head."
The band members saw little other than the guitarist
being shot.
Bass player Robert Kakaha said "he looked over toward
Dimebag and the suspect looked like he was hugging
him, then turned to the side and that's when he saw
the gun aimed at his head." Kakaha ran out the club's
back door.
Dimebag's brother, drummer Vincent "Vinnie Paul"
Abbott, told investigators that he hid behind some
amplifiers after his brother was shot. John Graham, a
crew member, jumped on the drummer to protect him,
then told him to run out the back door when Gale was
reloading his gun.
The gunman walked behind lead singer Patrick Lachman,
who didn't realize what was happening until he heard
the gunshots.
Lachman jumped off the stage, still holding the
microphone, and yelled for someone to call 911.
Gale entered the club as DAMAGEPLAN began its first
song. He had scaled a wooden privacy fence that
surrounds the club's outdoor patio.
Allison Henthorn, a concertgoer from Centerburg, told
investigators she watched three people on the patio
encourage the intruder.
"They were basically saying, 'Come on, right on,' or
whatever," she told The Dispatch yesterday. "He got
about halfway over the fence and they helped him the
rest of the way."
A security guard on the patio approached Gale about
entering the club without buying an $8 ticket, saying,
"No way, no way," she recalled. Gale "said, 'Hey,
what's up?' and walked by him into the club."
Henthorn and the security guard followed Gale, who
quickly outpaced them on his way to the stage.
Gale's mother, Mary Clark, told investigators her
son's paranoid schizophrenia was diagnosed before he
was discharged from the Marines and that he had
stopped taking his medication.
"In 1999 to 2000, Mr. Gale started telling Mrs. Clark
'they were after him' and he felt there were
surveillance cameras placed inside the house and he
also started hearing voices," the report states.
Officers who searched Gale's Marysville apartment
found no "computers or magazines or compact discs"
related to DAMAGEPLAN or PANTERA, the Abbott brothers'
previous band.
However, a compact-disc player found inside the
Pontiac Grand Am that Gale drove to the concert
contained a DAMAGEPLAN CD.
Several witnesses, including band and crew members,
suggested that the shootings might have been motivated
by the breakup of PANTERA or a public dispute between
Dimebag Darrell and PANTERA's lead singer, Phil
Anselmo.
Investigators dismissed the theory.
"At this point," wrote detective William Gillette,
"there is no evidence leading detectives to believe
Nathan Gale was communicating with Phil Anselmo or any
other individual . . . in an effort to hurt Dimebag
Darrell Abbott."
Among those who were baffled by Gale's motives was the
man he wrestled to the ground and held hostage until
an officer's shot ended the ordeal.
"Brooks said he kept asking the gunman why he was
doing this and to please stop," investigators wrote.
"Brooks said he just couldn't imagine why this guy
kept doing this."

am i right in saying that during 'Cowboys from Hell' Dimebag left out and entire section of the solo?
the part with the 11,12 and 15th fret sextuplets....
he actually did, he left out a whole chunk of the solo, yet they continued to crank out ther rest of the song.
im not dissing him, i suspect it could have been done purposfully, or maybe nerves made him just skip a section and go into the next.

One Year Later....Still SUCKS NUTS!
Hey people, it's almost been a year since the senseless tragedy of Dimebag's murder. And it STILL SUCKS NUTS! The December issue of Guitar orld has an awesome CD-ROM in it with Dean Guitar's Tribute, Dime's last interview in Nov. 2004 and Nick Bowcott playing some of Dime's riffs. Not to mention an exclusive interview with Vinne Paul for the first time since Dec. 8, 2004. WELL WORTH picking up as a collector's item. You will be interested in the comments made by Vinnie about Phil Anselmo (who can rot in hell for all I care).
October 23, 2004 1 year ago today at Dime's photos
They say a picture is worth a thousand words....so I will let these speak for themselves for the most part.
One year ago today October 23, 2004 Dime and I did a few photo shoots at his house and a near by park. Not one day goes by that I don't think about him, but when i guess you could say "anniversary dates of time we spent together come up, I really reflect even harder, and and reminds me even more how much i miss my friend.
I have posted pictures from these sessions before, but these here I have never posted publicly. We took probably around 500 pictures that day. This is also the same night we went to his favorite restaurant Campo Verde's where the photgraph was taken of Dime and myself, that you may have seen in the most recent Guitar World tribute issue.
You are dearly missed my friend.
Having my blood pressure tested by Dime before we commence drinking and working.
Taken during band rehearsals for the Freaker's Ball the next night. This would be the first time Dime plays his new Kranks, and Deans on stage.
Rest in peace brother DIME you will NEVER be forgotten !

It finally arrived after almost a year of waiting. Yeah, it rocks.
Kerry King!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I met Kerry King at a guitar abuse clinic the other day in my local music store. He jammed out for about an hour showing everyone the proper way to play alot of different Slayer riffs. It kicked ass!!!
Anyway when I talked to him he said that 50 different musicians were going to come up with different paint schemes for custom MLs in honor of Dime. He said that he was doing one of them and they should be released next year sometime.
This is for all who have an X2 or know about heads and cabs.
What should be the best cab to use? I have a 200w marshall avt412 and it sounds like when I chop, a vibrating noise is heard coming through the sound....like a "whoomp". Could it be that I took off the front cloth grill the other day to look at the speakers???? Is it not velcroed on tight enough?

Hi there,
yesterday my local dealer called me and told me, that my long awaited Dime-O-Flame (i ordered it in april this year) has arrived!
I was driving fast as hell to him to get my brand new Dean axe...
When i was at home again i opened the box and....
What a disappointment!
I awaited a great paint job on this guitar...but the black isn't black...it's something like green dots!
You can see it on this pictures:

But the biggest disappointment on this guitar is the really crappy Floyd Rose Tremolo System...

You have to screw tremolo arm into the floyd and it wobbels like the tail of a cow...there is now possibility to tighten it...

Why the f*** Dean uses such a lousy tremolo system on a Dimebag tribute guitar? I mean i paid a lot of money and every cheaper guitar has a better termolo than this one!!!
I think there are some more users here which play this guitar?
Do you have the same tremolo system and green graphic on your guitar?
Please tell me if this is on every Dime-O-Flame...because i'm thinking of selling it again on Ebay...
Thanks for your replies and greetings,
Matthias
Does anybody know what year the "Dean from Hell" was originally painted with the bolt graphics?
Check out this article I stumbled upon at a kramer site.
Undeniable.

The wear and tear, and even the black which was later added to the dfh.
I think it's supposed to be clouds on the Vivian Campbell model
Correct me if I'm wrong, and sorry if this has already been posted.
In the spirit of Halloween
I was thinking of starting an online pumpkin carving contest featuring Dean guitars and good old Dimebag. Basically carve a pumpkin with either of the above mentioned and post it here. If you are carving an existing picture, that's fine, just also post the picture you were carving. I'm working on a Dime portrait now and will post pic later. FYI... it's best to have the pumpkin lit, turn the lights and the camera flash off!!! Maybe I have too much free time at work. I thought this would be a fun way to celebrate my 3 favorite things... halloween, Dean Guitars, and Dimebag! (RIP)
Other bad-ass pumpkin cavings also welcome... post anything but male organs please!!
I was just listening to an interview with gene simmons, and the guy asked him if there was any kiss caskets left, he explained that the last one he seen was the one darrell got buried in. Yeh everyone knows darrell was buryed in a kiss casket, anyway the part i didn't know is that it was out of genes personal museam in his house. I thought that was pretty cool.
