Dime-O-Flame & Old School Black Dean guitar w/ Red bulle
by Heavy_Chords on Tue Mar 01, 2005 7:17 am
So tonight I am watching some old Pantera bootlegs I have, and I just noticed something in this one when they were on tour with Skid Row....... you guys all know that Dean that Dime used to play in the Mouth For War video, the black Dean with the red bullet holes all over it ? Well it looks like it has the same logo on the bottom of the guitar, on the horn by the toggle switch as the Dime-O-Flame does. From what the guys at the Dean booth told me, this is a motorcycle shop's logo that custom painted the Dime-O-Flame.

Question is .... are they the ones who custom painted the Black Bullet Hole guitar? Not that it's really important, just makes for good Dime trivia .... Smile

I don't know the name of the motorcycle shop (I forgot)

Here's the logo I'm talking about .....

there is a pawn shop here in town who has an explorer body-the neck is trash, sitting next to it is a jackson with the logo rubbed off-the body is trashed on the jackson. What do you guys think about a culprit style body with possibly a dean style head stock, painted like the DFH? Is that a sin?

Neck pickup in the Dean from Hell...

vivian campbell's lightning nightswan
by marker on Thu Mar 03, 2005 4:23 pm
I was looking around the net about info on buddy blaze and I found out he made vivian campbell a lightning bolt guitar. There is pics of it on www.vintagekramer.com/night.htm. It looks like the same color as the dean from hell. I wish I could find that particular shade of blue. It would be hard to match cuz the color looks different from pic to pic. Smile
recessed floyds
by marker on Thu Mar 03, 2005 4:38 pm
I was looking around last night for pics of a culprit and found several. There was a pic of dime sitting on his pool table with 2 culprits. 1 was red and the other was black. I noticed that both these guitars with floyds did not have the usual floyd rout. You can see it clearly on the red one. On another pic of a production culprit it has the floyd rout. Does anyone know why dime didn't like the recess. I know he played the new deans with recessed routs, but all his old ones were not routed all the way. wonder if it changes the action? Any thoughts? Smile

DFH 05 Limited Edition - Thoughts.
by DeanSlime396 on Fri Mar 04, 2005 4:41 pm
O.K., here I sit behind the "8 Ball" cuz I never got the chance to ORDER one! Freak! Crying or Very sad

150 Units Worldwide! Damn!

I guess the FBD will have to suffice! Wink

Anyway, my thoughts, especially on a Limited Run situation like the DFH 05, why not build 'em as "Relics"??? Exact Replicas of the "Guitar to beat all Guitars", a True Tribute to the (Brotha) Man that has brought most of us here!!! I saw the DOA 05 Coverage showing Bloodroot picking on the DFH and the picture of Thor with it as well.................and it is a Beautiful Freaking Axe! and I'd about sell my 71 Nova and 396 for one. But, it is too NEW looking, where are the Burn Marks on the Headstock from where Dime or his Guitar Tech used to light the Guitar on Fire, and where is the Writing "The........From Hell" on the Dean Logo? How about the Picture of KISS and all that missing Paint showing its Maroon ML Beauty below???

That would be the one for me! Twisted Evil

Just my thoughts! Anyone Order two of these that feels they'd like to help a Dime Fan out? Whimper, whimper.

My first Dean
by Satanized on Fri Mar 04, 2005 9:00 pm
Today it arrived... My first Dean guitar, ML79.
Oh man... Did I get stunned Shocked . I love everything about it, except for the saddle which is made of plastic and the p-ups are not so great either (but still pretty good). Otherwise I do love the set-in neck which have the same feel as the neckthru guitars have, braziliaburst finish is lovely and of course the great looking headstock.
I bought it for 3995 swedish crowns which is about $450, which is not so much.
Ive allways loved the Dean ML models, but never could get hold on one because the Deans are pretty rare here in Sweden, until now.
So now I am a happy owner of a great Dean guitar.

My mom won't let me get a razorblade necklace cuz the whole chopping cocaine thing and when i say it is a tribute to dime which it is she just says that his name was dimebag thats what his was prolly for. then i say it was from his wife as a gift then she says that she was prolly on coke too. I was just wondering because i can show her becuase u r all prolly hardcore dimebag fans like me in just dont really care what drugs he did. I know phil was on just about everything but in another post it says that dimebag was just a heavy metal name and it had to do nuthing with pot. this could really help me out. thanks in advance.

Look at the beauty Shocked ... The guitar that is (Not the ugly bastard who's holding it, ME!) Laughing
I got it yesterday and I am very pleased with it.
I will just uppgrade it with some new p-ups and a new saddle.
A pair of of EMG's (81, 89), or Bill Lawrence 500XL And 1 Duncan 59 should make it perfect.
This is my seventh guitar and it's definitely one of my favorite guitars, right after my Jackson Kelly USA Custom Shop.
Perhaps someday I'll buy a 79MLF or a dime-o-flame and just switch the crappy floyd with an Original Floyd.
Well... That's all folks!

This is the 79 ML-F that was offstage during the shooting that was broke in half.

This past Saturday we took our "Lil Guy" who is 6 to the Ontario Science Center (Which is exactly that, a Science Center, History, Knowledge and Fun Science related activities, Oh Yeah and Imax Omnimax Theater). Anyway, we are cruising through the "Kids Zone" and there is a little Room that has Music in it and a Projector of sorts and what do I see emblazoned on the wall behind where the Kids can pretend they are Rock Stars???

I know it is not a Dean, but in the Background there is a Sublime Green (Dime Slime) "Culprit" Outline!!!! Then I looked a little Closer at the Wooden Guitars they have for the Kids to play, Yup, 60% are Mini "Culprits".

Anyway, as a Dime Fan I thought it was pretty wild and thought I would share! Next Time, I bring the Camera Wink

Original MOLLY HATCHET Singer DANNY JOE BROWN Dead At 53
by dimebagcfh on Sat Mar 12, 2005 5:23 pm
very sad indeed i did get to see him one time though when i was about 9 years old in concert with blackfoot. rip danny

The southern rock family was dealt a huge blow on
March 10 with the passing of original MOLLY HATCHET
singer Danny Joe Brown. He had only just been released
from hospital, after treatment for pneumonia and other
ailments, but died upon his return home. He was 53
years old.

Although earlier, established acts initially disputed
the fact that MOLLY HATCHET was a southern rock band,
it's fair to say that the Jacksonville, Florida group
was the first to take the spirit of the genre and kick
its butt with an infusion of classic heavy metal. The
formula worked and the band's presence soon rose to
that of international platinum status. European fans
in particular appreciated the band’s heavy use of
guitar riffing and distinctive Frank Frazetta album
covers.

Named after a 17th century axe murderess, Abigail
"Hatchet Molly" from Salem, MOLLY HATCHET's
self-titled Tom Werman-produced debut album was
released in September 1978. It had been intended for
MOLLY HATCHET's debut to be produced by LYNYRD SKYNYRD
frontman Ronnie Van Zant, but his untimely death in a
1977 plane crash put paid to these plans. The record
would eventually earn platinum status for one million
U.S. sales, as did the follow-up Top-20 album,
"Flirting With Disaster", released a year later.

Brown was forced out of the band due to diabetes, but
made his comeback on 1983's "No Guts...No Glory" and
1984's "The Deed Is Done". MOLLY HATCHET briefly
disbanded after Epic issued the storming "Double
Trouble Live" set in 1986, due to Brown's diabetes
disabling him once again. MOLLY HATCHET reformed with
Brown in 1988 and recorded the "Lightning Strikes
Twice" set for new label Capitol. However, in later
years Phil McCormack took over the vocal reigns as
Brown's illness advanced.

MOLLY HATCHET's latest release was a 2004 set of
re-recorded 25th anniversary tracks. The band is still
constantly on the road in the U.S. and Europe.

Need Dimebag merchandise stuff
by PanamaSpeed on Mon Mar 14, 2005 1:59 pm
Hi,

I'd really like to purchase some of those Dime tribute shirts from the deanshop.com but since I'm from Germany it's simply not possible cos they don't ship overseas. I already looked on american ebay but at the moment there's no one who offers original dean stuff. Only those unapproved self-made stuff that looks very ugly in most cases.
Is there a possibility to get it somehow? Maybe a kind person here on the board who likes to act as intermediary for me?
Thanx guys.

question about control pots on a dime333
by dimebagcfh on Mon Mar 14, 2005 8:27 pm
was playing a while yesterday, and just got curious about the volume and tone knobs in my dime333. so i opened the back of it and seen what looked like to be 250k volume pots and some kinda capacitor on the tone control all 3 pots looked to be 250k.
But i thought all humbucker series run 500k pots, and not 250k, but i've read the 250k gives warmer tone, but if you wanna hear your axe wide open then get 500K pots.

just wonder if anyone else opened up there dime 333 guitars and just looked at the pots or the capacitors in them...
i think im gonna goto stew-macs website and order 3 new control pots 2 volumes and 1 tone 500ks.

p.s. after i get my bl L-500XL i wanna hear it in full throttle
then im gonna work on getting a duncan 59 for the neck pickup.

"Expect the worse,

we are born different after all

Invite mayhem,

burn down
No CNN or media now "

KRANKENSTEIN
by Vaituoso on Thu Mar 17, 2005 1:39 am
Do any of you know how much a Krankenstein head goes for? How about the cabinet? I'm in the market for a new amp and I've narrowed the selection down to the Krankenstein, Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifier, Soldano SLO-100, and the Bogner Uberschall. I'm leaning towards the Krankenstein and the Dual Rectifier.

Randall RG100/PQ-4
by slaytanic on Thu Mar 17, 2005 5:44 pm
Ok I just got me a PQ-4 and hooked it up with myRandall RG100 am having a hell of a time dialing it in, I have it pretty close to what I want but it sounds like there is way to much mids. I am running it together with a Boss RGE-10 EQ with the PQ-4 first in line, and I have a HUSH pedal Im using between my guitar and amp ( dont know if thats where I should put it but it does quiet things down). I found that if you run the EQ's into the front of the amp you have tons of feedback and the sound is really crappy so I put the EQ's in the effects loop instead to see how it would sound and it seemed to improve it, heavier sounding but the mids I cant seem to scoop them out enough but when I do its not real punchy sounding, I basically try and get my sound of bass and punch by playing Mouth for War and Shedding Skin. I used to run a Boss Metal Zone pedal but Im trying to get rid of that and just use the Randall distortion, but the pedal is definately heavier sounding but way too much distortion rather than gain. I like the Randall distortion but cant seem to get it heavy enough. I know some of you have this same setup or similiar, any ideas on how I can beef up the sound of my Randall?

Dropped Tunings

How the hell do you get all these alternate tunings?
I've tried dropped D sometimes but Im not great at using my

what is so bad about them? less tone? i have no problems what so ever. i dont own a set neck to know the advantages of them because i don't have a job. i am probably buying the dime-o-flame. I just dont know if i should stick with the bolt ons for now until I get enough money for the dime-o-flame. I am nowhere near to matching the skill on the axe like most you probably. I dont know what to do. TOO CONFUSED. i dont even own a guitar with a floyd except my first guitar which was a strat copy with the g a y tremolos that im selling for only 115 dollars soon. but i need a decent guitar because i want one with a floyd to replace my strat copy for now becuase i like having enough guitars. i think i might buy a charvel flying V its a set neck with a floyd, but its used with only one chip near the humbucker. any input is thanked.

ok the crate head works well with the cab, but the randall head has only2 8ohms on the back and on my crate cab it only reads 4ohms has 2 inputs in the back though, do i need to wire it differently for the randall head? or any advice would be appreciated on what to do. and nope i cant afford a new cab at the moment and I like solidstate more than tubes.

also heres a rough sketch i did showing how its wired right now

Sad but True ...... Dimebag Kerrang Article
by Heavy_Chords on Wed Mar 23, 2005 5:45 am
So today I just got the Kerrang you've all seen on eBay, with Dime on the front, saying "Metal's Darkest Day" .. here's the cover .....

Image

Anyway, I'm reading a part of the article that just made me so sad, and upset to read, about fans kissing Dime's hands and feet after he was shot. It's a small part of the article, but I never knew that sad fact. I'll type it out below ..........

"One Eyewitness, food vendor Medhat Monkhtar, told MTV News that he made his way to the stage after the attack where a crowd had gathered around Dimebag Darrell. "I tried to push them away, but people were kissing his hands and his feet and trying to give him CPR."

The ConJederate is here... review ensues
by Jed Anderson on Thu Mar 24, 2005 3:10 pm
Hi there people, as you've seen in my ''Bargain confederate'' topic ive been waiting on it to arrive - its here now and i've been playing with it for about 2 hours after an hour of setting the guitar up - it was out of tune, trem needed setting, trem arm lug had fallen out - but all the parts for it was still there- i put it all back together and tuned it til it stayed in tune then thrashed it like a mothem'ahem... great guitar- the fact it has 24 frets is a bit weird but getting used to it, the pickups it came with are pretty good - trem is quite good also but will all change as will those crappy volume knobs. -it wails like a banshee already and i'm very pleased with it - not as amazing as my Dean but still amazing in its own right so dont think im gonna sell this one unless i get offered a tastey amount as its a strange one of a kind dime guitar - could it be a prototype?- never seen a 24fretter before. anyways enough babble- heres some pics for u to look at while i go get the pickups and trem from town.

BLS in Milwaukee review
by harley on Thu Mar 24, 2005 6:52 pm
Thought I'd put this here.

First let me preface this with I don't know much about BLS other than my sons wanted to go and a friend had extra tickets so.....

Packed house and we barely got my youngest out of the pit before he was crushed Shocked Don't know the song names so bare with here. Zakk opened up playing his Rhodes V while the other gtr was playing a Confederate 333 as well as a Southern Cross. No, not at the same time Laughing

Yes folks, Zakk broke out the Rust Razorback for 2 songs as well as a long speech about how Dime wanted him to go to NAMM so he could give him the Baddest Motherfu**** Guitar Ever. A moment of silence and then he tore it up. That guitar lives up to it's reputation and anyone who has one coming should be very proud right now Very Happy

He also did an acoustic set while a table was set up on stage and , yes Rita came out with video camera and flmed while mixing Blacktooh Grins for the band Very Happy Cool Very cool.

Later she walked right passed me but was gone by the time I recognized her, oh well.

A female band from Swede called Maldrum(I think) opened up. Very good and not hard to look at either Shocked Laughing

If you get the chance don't pass this show up.
The traction speed knobs, what are they made of?
by DiezelMonster on Fri Mar 25, 2005 1:23 am
Hello

I'm interested to know how dean replicated the traction knobs that Dime made for himself? I've yet to hear the story on how Dime came about making them, obviously it's for big sweaty hands on those gibson style speed knobs, since you'd slip like a MFer

I am curious to know, are they little nylon screws? I have little scres like that, but they don't look like screws from the top, they look hollow down the centre..

Anyone know?

Thanks

Cowboys From Hell: The Videos outro!
by DeanfromHellML on Fri Mar 25, 2005 8:14 pm
I was watching 3 vulgar videos from hell again yesterday and i yet again came across the hilariously(sp?) funny ending part where dimebag goes around the city jamming on his guitar asking for "your frippin money". ive tried to tab them but there are some parts which i jus cant figure out. the bits i cant figure out are:

Right at the beginning when he comes out of the building,

When he is kneeling on the floor when he does that solo at the old ladies ,

and finally the song he plays when he asks for "You frippin Money"

I was wonderin if any of u guys could tab it out for me or direct me to a site where it is tabbed. Thanks Very Happy

ZW:no, no without a doubt.ill never get over it.you know, i got a picture of him on my mic stand.I got his mass card and everything like that, pictures in my guitar room. I love the lord and everything, but my wife goes to see this woman, and she can do the tarot cards and actually tell you everything. Youre going, how does she know? She says, "just tell zakk, 'cause i know hes going through some heavy stuff right now, hell do okay. Dimes always going to be that bird on his shoulder. When zakks in his darkest hours, dime will be there. Im sitting there in the guest house - 'cause we got ten acres and the two houses, so me and you can hang out, have a couple beers and shoot the sh*t- and a bird comes in,just sits on the les paul clock. A bird always on my shoulder. "Dime, whats going on, bro?" Thats it, hes always around, you know what im saying? [grins] He just goes, "Im keeping a lid on you, motherf@#$%!"

R.I.P Dime
my dime story
by Rickyg on Wed Mar 30, 2005 2:16 am
I remember the day when dime was killed, at the time i had never really listened to pantera or damageplan, i had heard of dime and everything, saw his guitars in catalogs and stuff. well i got up and did my regular morning routine and went into the kitchen and turned on the news, it had the video clip of inside the club after it had happened. All they said was that the lead guitar player from some band had been shot. for some reason the thoughts just kept running through my head, even though i hadn't even listened to his music, "i hope that isn't dimebag", he always just looked cool in the magazines. I got to school and one of my metalhead friends told me it was him, i couldnt believe it, it made me so sad all day at school. i went home and downloaded a few songs by pantera and i almost hated myself for not having heard it before. well, a long story short, pantera is now my favorite band and dime is my biggest inspiration.
Blunt Force Trauma
by JACKHOLE on Wed Mar 30, 2005 5:40 am
I was listening to DP's "New Found Power" when I realized that the lyrics to "Blunt Force Trauma" were almost a premonition of what was to come for Dime.I can imagine him showing up in Heaven and asking St.Peter "What happened?I was just jamming onstage, and now I'm here"."Where am I...?" to which St.Peter replies"Heaven...,Dime...,Heaven" to which Dime replies"Cool...Where's the bar?"
Dimebag never died!!!
by Jed Anderson on Wed Mar 30, 2005 10:31 am
last night i had the longest dream i've ever had... longest and best ever... well it was so powerful i cried when i woke.

I'll try to remember every detail,

The dream started out as i was walking thru my town on a late summer evening and i heard a band playing at one of the public practice rooms/gig spots - the music was very loud and good so i went to have a look and dimebag was playing, just messing around jamming out some solos... i thought nah that must just be someone that looks like him and plays like a demon... he had an ML shaped guitar but it had weird mouldings all over it (3d style) even running up the back of the neck of tortured souls and stuff like that. i was looking at the guitar after theyd finished up. then i left thinking thats gonna be a cool band...

walking thru town after i here this voice going ''hey you'' i turned round thinking i was in trouble or something and there was the guy... and he said ''you was at the practice rooms - what did you think?'' and i said that was awsome, and then said you are so much like dimebag but you cant be cos he was murdered... ''dimebag laughs and says come with me and have a drink'' so we set off into my town and he strangely picks a posh winebar style place and we go in anyways and sit down and look at the menu and order a few beers and i ask him about what happened and he mocks me going (making gun noises) ''bang bang bang bang'' while pointing at different parts of his body and his hand then says ''see any holes?'' ''it didnt happen'' we drank for a while and i talked about music and guitars- talked about my guitars and my new confederate told him it was the only dime guitar ive ever heard of with 24 frets and he said lets go have a look at them. i showed him them and he loved my 79MLf said i was lucky to get a good one as they are a bit hit and miss with the korean made ones, he then said ''lets go back to where im staying and have drink and meet a few of my buddies''. on our way people kept looking and recognising dime and i knew what they was thinking cos it was the same as what i thought when i saw him. some of the local metallers pointed and scratched theyre heads looking confused... anyways we arrived where he was staying and it was some kind of motorcycle customisers cos they had a yard with loads of chops in that were being done up.
we went up a set of stairs into the house and was greeted by some people -i obviously dont know who(strange how u can dream of people youve never seen before) then dime asked one of the guys to go fetch a bottle a bourbon and dime got me to pour out 3 hefty glasses - like a half pint of bourbon and we drank it with the guy who went and got it and sat down talking some more about stuff- dimebag told me about a company making a special guitar - it wasnt dean tho i cant remember the name- i think it was some custom guitar company either making a guitar for him or his friend- i cant quite remember, im fogetting the details of my dream a bit now... but next thing i remember is we get on a plane real short notice to the states (as we was in england before) i remember thinking ''haha if someone phones me asking where i am i'll say im in america with dimebag!'' i remember getting to america and seeing some of it thru the window but i was really tired and drunk on the plane so i fell asleep... now i cant remember anymore Sad but the dream went on much longer-

it was an amazing dream-so real... and upsetting that it wasnt true... i miss dime so much.
this is the second dream he's been in, damn i wish i had asked to jam with him... that was one of the things i've always wanted to do if i was to ever meet him.

anyways - thankyou dime.

According to a recent online posting by Disturbed drummer Mike Wengren, several Damageplan- and Pantera-related products are currently being planned for future release, reports Blabbermouth.net. Among the items that will reportedly see the light of day — either individually or as part of a box set — are the following:

Damageplan DVD "Damagevision"

Damageplan second album

Damageplan "New Found Power" outtakes

Pantera Home DVD Part 4

Pantera - Unreleased studio tracks from:
01. "Cowboys From Hell"
02. "Vulgar Display Of Power"
03. "Far Beyond Driven"
04. "Great Southern Trendkill"
05. "Reinventing The Steel"

Tracks from what would have been Pantera's next studio project after "Reinventing The Steel"

Rebel Meets Rebel (Dimebag and Vinnie Paul's side project with legendary country/western music artist David Allen Coe)

It should be noted, however, that — with the exception of a second Damageplan studio album (consisting of recordings originally meant to be used towards the band's follow-up to "New Found Power") — there has not yet been any confirmation from the Pantera/Damageplan camp that the above-mentioned recordings will ever be made available to the public.

In other news, Krank Amplification has a section on their web site dedicated to "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, featuring exclusive photos and video footage of the late Pantera/Damageplan guitarist.
David Ellefson In memory of Dimebag Darrell
by Darri on Wed Mar 30, 2005 11:31 pm
Here is a text I found that David Ellefson wrote about Darrell.

In Memory of Dimebag Darrell:

A somber hello to everyone who stops by to read this post from me today. Like most of you I couldn’t believe my eyes and ears when I woke up and heard the tragic news of Dime’s passing and the travesty at the Damageplan show in Columbus, Ohio. It is purely beyond belief yet so staggeringly real. I just recently hung out with him and the Damageplan entourage a couple weeks ago when they passed thru Phoenix, AZ and as usual they were the coolest.

I first met Dime in 1987 while in a Dallas, TX watering hole where I was introduced to this up and coming new band named called Pantera. Dime was a regional guitar hero who went under the name “Diamond Darrell” and his band was making some big waves in Texas. That night Darrell raved to me about how Megadeth’s “Peace Sells…But Who’s Buying” album forever changed his life. The next night Pantera played a nearby club and they invited me on stage to jam “Peace Sells…” with them which was kick ass! They certainly knew their metal alright.

A bond was formed between me and the band which as the years passed was always like seeing good friends again. In fact, I remember calling Darrell years ago asking him if he would join Megadeth as we were regrouping before “Rust In Peace”. However, as cool of a musical fit as that might have been, there was no way anyone could split up the brotherly onslaught of him and Vinnie Paul, nor would you want to!

Years later Pantera played often with Megadeth but I specifically remember a funny incident when we did a show together in Hamburg Germany in the red light district known as the Raper Bahn. Dime’s tour tradition was to get a tattoo in honor of his favorite bands he toured with. Right before the show he walked into the club and showed us his brand new black and white tattoo on his lower leg of a black tooth grin. We were like, “No frippin way, that’s insane!” to which he replied, “Yeah dad, Black Tooth Grin, just like in “Sweating Bullets”. Funny thing is I’ve seen other people get that same tattoo over the years, all in honor of Dime, and it always brings a grin to my face remembering how nuts he was to go out and get a tattoo in that part of town in our honor!

In closing, Dime truly lived, breathed and played metal like no other guitar slinger out there. My condolences go out to everyone in his family, the Damageplan camp and those related to the victims at the show. This incident has forever scarred heavy metal but our memories will live forever of the legend we’ve come to know in our brother Dimebag Darrell.

Yours In Metal,

David

Ignore the color on the fret board...Im using a cheap image software. Definately not as good as Tormentors though...On the reinventing the steel one the lettering is off but I did the best i could with the stuff behind it there.

by cyd666 on Thu Mar 31, 2005 10:39 pm
Hey guys,

I know this is the Dean forum , but does anyone know if Washburn ever produced more than just the prototype for the SlimeBolt guitar? I fell in love with that guitar the first time I saw it but I have never seen one for sale anywhere. Thanks
