TWO "DEAN FROM HELL" MODELS????
by ZILLA on Mon Aug 01, 2005 7:34 pm
hello to all....im new here and i have a question if anyone can help....

i have found two versions of the "dean from hell". one with a floyd rose and a dimebucker in the bridge, limited to 100 i think.....there is also a picture of one on dean's website that has a sting-thru body and no dimebucker. like, a more affordable mass-produced version. could someone help me find out more about the string-thru "dean from hell" if it exists?

thanks a million,
ZILLA

Question about the ... ahem... competition?
by Anonymous on Thu Aug 04, 2005 10:08 am
Howdy all,

I was just over on the Zakk Wylde forum (a place I troll occasionally looking for interesting stuff) and came upon a link to a *certain* Pittsburgh area guitar store that's been selling an awful lot of non-Dean Dime guitars on Ebay lately. Anyways, they're making NEW ones? How exactly is this possible? Any law buffs care to explain how they get away with this?

Edit: here's a link. Keep in mind this is me bringing this to the attention of this community, where it should be met with righteous outrage. I am NOT endorsing this brand, and fully agree with the future word-filter changing of it to "Firewood"... I just really wonder if there's going to be legal action. http://www.boogiestreet.com/boogieboard/viewtopic.php?t=842
Dime's proto octave fuzz wah?
by Fan O' Zakk on Thu Aug 04, 2005 8:08 pm
Just like the title says, I'm very interested in the Dunlop octave fuzz wah that Dime was testing a year or so back...

I've got a vid of him demoing it, but did the pedal ever see use in any songs he did? Does anyone have ANY more info on this little gem?

Thanks!

Megadeth's Greatest Hits with DVD (Rant!)
by DeanSlime396 on Fri Aug 05, 2005 10:12 pm
Or should I say Mustaine's Greatest Hits (and Solos). Anyone else watching this???

Megadeth is my #2 Fave Band, but Mr. Mustaine's EGO never ceases, and never ceases to piss me off as a Fan! The Sound Quality of the DVD is Carp! I took the first one I bought back to the store for exchange in hopes that the "Volume Level Changes" were a Fluke! No Such Luck! The Replacement SUCKS as well.

My BIGGEST complaint is that Mr. Mustaine has nicely "Mastered" out Marty Friedman's Guitar Parts!!! Oh, and of course his Guitar Parts are Loud & Clear! What is with that s#%t??? Marty is an AWESOME Guitarist, as is Dave..................Marty was a big part of "Deth" back in the day, he deserves more respect.

You can really tell that this Greatest Hits thing is a Contract Fullfilment Deal!!! I sure hope Dave wouldn't release something this Crappy on purpose!!!

I hope the Megadeth Arsenal DVD Kicks Arse! Starting to lose faith..............

RG100 ES VS. Century 200
by DimebagDemmel on Mon Aug 08, 2005 7:39 pm
So it's probably a repost i know, but im lazy and late for work so...

I've been able to find a bunch of RG100 ES but i havent seen any Century 200, a couple II's, but the question is, Is it worth continuing to look for a century or should i just get the RG?

Obviously trying to get a tone similar to Dime's, don't exactly need that same tone but want something that i can get something close to his on while also developing my own. Really enjoy jamming along with Dime on cd's and doing covers etc. but also need a relatively versitle amp. So any info on these would be very helpful.

Rust Razorback Pictures, post links here
by DiezelMonster on Fri Aug 12, 2005 9:52 pm
Hey guys

I am REALLY thinking about getting a Rust Razorback guitar, I have not been able to stop thinking about it, and since I already have a few regular ML shaped guitars and I like the shape of the original Stealth, I was thinking I should get one of these. I''ll probably get the two-tone and paint it up how I want it and change out the bridge on it, and the neck pickup, but What I'd like is, Can we make a post or a sticky, where we have all the Rust Razorback pictures in one spot? I'm on Dialup and havn't been able to sit down and spend time to find them and d/l them,

Please feel free to delete this post if it appears to be lazy or stupid..

I just think it would be good to have a spot where they all were located, since it's on it's way. I think this guitar is an incredible tribute to Dime, it was his design, and I'm sure he was insanely proud of it.
Also because I'm a huge pointy guitar fan, I think this is the pinnacle of pointy guitars, there are some that are great, and others that just overdo the idea, but I think this in it's outrageousness and it's subtlety are what make it so incredible!

sorry for the long winded post!

Cheers Guys!

Does anyone know what happened to that "plumpymunkymusic" guy and those "Very LImited Run Dimebag Guitars"? I mean, that was kinda lame, cause I put a post into that subject, and the next day it was just removed. That was a few days ago. Anyone have any info on where to get a "CUSTOM" style DEAN Dimebag, other than flashing signs of one's own brilliance with an Air Brush. I mean, I would love to build my own guitar, but there's a reason why they are Paid to do it, and why I wouldn't really want to try to do it. Confused .... SO yeah, I got all hard on that "think flag" line, now what?
FBD Giveaway again??...
by slaytanic on Sun Aug 14, 2005 1:57 am
I just got this off the Vinneiand Dime site. Is it true that Dean is having another FBD giveaway? That would be awesome.

On Saturday, August 20, Dean Guitars will be hosting "the biggest online party ever" in celebration of what would have been "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott's (PANTERA, DAMAGEPLAN) 39th birthday.

"We want everybody to come to the Dean site Saturday, August 20th starting at 7pm Eastern time and make a post to Dimebag Darrell," reads a posting at DeanGuitars.com. "The site will have a dedicated link to do a post to Dime. All the posts will be printed, copied into book form and will travel with the Dean Guitars Dimebag Memorial for Dime fans to view for years to come. Please come and celebrate the memory of metal's greatest hero — Darrell 'Dimebag' Abbott."

In conjunction with Dean Guitars' online celebration, Sirius Satellite Radio will be playing Dimebag's music all day beginning at midnight August 20. Sirius' "Hard Attack" channel "officially proclaims that from this day forward, every August 20th will be Dime Day, a celebration of all things Dimebag," reads a posting at Sirius.com. "With blessings from his family, friends and fans, 'Hard Attack' // Ch. 27 will shred PANTERA, DAMAGEPLAN and anything else that he would want you to hear in this day-long Dime binge. Not only will this metal guitar legend's music blast from your speakers, his voice will too.

"Laugh your ass off to clips from PANTERA's infamous 'Vulgar Video', drop in on past interview segments and hear rock's elite and YOU take part in this annual march of Dime Day. Oh, and we forgot the other thing...YOU could win a FBD (Far Beyond Driven) Dimebag Tribute signature Dean guitar and more by entering online. Good luck! It's just our way of spreading some good ole' Dimebag to all who believe that this dude helped make us the metalheads we are today. So, slam down some 'blacktooth grins,' 'getcha' pull on' and celebrate Hard Attack's only official holiday, on Darrell's birthday."

Sirius Satellite's Dean Dimebag guitar promotion starts on August 17 and ends on September 6, 2005.

Reinventing The Steel????
by Jessy_Jew_R.I.P.Dime on Wed Aug 17, 2005 1:06 pm
I have seen a picture in Kerrang of dimebag holding a Fu*king massive steel-effect guitar that has 'Reinventing the Steel' written up the fretboard.i can't even find any other pictures of it let alone anything else to do with it. It is a W*shBu*n guitar. I was wondering if anyone had seen it about on the net or anythin??? I believe it was given to Dime from W*shBu*n when Reinventing the Steel was released. He had a smaller version (alot smaller) made when he joined Damage Plan and it said 'Damage Plan' up the neck rather than 'Reinventing the Steel', just wondered if anyone knows anything about or even just were to find some pics or specs on it.........................?

Dime Whammy Harmonics (Art of Shredding Live)
by sepsis311 on Wed Aug 17, 2005 1:22 pm
Ok, in this video, which i'm sure most of you have seen, because I downloaded it from here, dime does one of those (dive the bar, tap the G string, and touch a 3rd fret harmonic, and pull up) things. It is completely flawless, and so powerful and full sounding. Also in the sleep solo.

Here's my question... How does it sound so thick live? I try it, and they eventually "thin out" due to feedback. But any less gain, they really dont sound that well, and with a noise suppressor, the note probablly won't last. How the hell does he do it live so perfectly every time?

I know it's because he's dimebag, and it takes practice, and there's no secrets, but if anyone has some tips, feel free to tell me.

DB-01 Dime wah- worth investing in?

Seen a couple advertised for £105 ($200 ish?)
Seems like a really good price, or does anyone know better?

Anyway, i've had a Morley wah for years.
Gives a good sound, but doesn't give a clean bypass - i can tell when its in the chain. Would the DB-01 give a good bypass when not in use?

Are Jim Dunlop gonna stop producing these now?

NICKELBACK TRIBUTE
by axeman8 on Thu Aug 18, 2005 4:44 pm
Jon Wiederhorn of MTV.com is reporting that a previously unreleased solo by late PANTERA and DAMAGEPLAN guitarist Dimebag Darrell will appear this fall in an unlikely place: on NICKELBACK's new album, "All the Right Reasons". The guitar parts for the flailing, 24-second lead were donated by Darrell's brother, drummer Vinnie Paul, and assembled from outtakes from the PANTERA albums "Vulgar Display of Power" and "Far Beyond Driven".

The song, a tribute to Darrell titled "Side of a Bullet", was written three months after the guitarist was killed while performing onstage with DAMAGEPLAN in Columbus, Ohio. NICKELBACK mainman Chad Kroeger first penned the song's aggressive, metallic riff, then wrote call-and-response lyrics from the perspective of a PANTERA fan so enraged over Dimebag's murder that he vows revenge, not realizing the shooter had already been killed by a policeman.

"I was very upset, and for two months, if I saw his picture somewhere I would get angry," Kroeger told MTV.com. "I hadn't lost somebody to a shooting before — it wasn't as though he'd been killed in some sort of accident. He was taken in such a horrible, malicious way that just made it more painful."

Once Kroeger finished demoing "Side of a Bullet", he called up Paul and played it to him to get his take on the tune. Paul liked what he heard and urged Kroeger to write lyrics about Dime. "I said, 'Well, funny enough, that song is about your brother,' " Kroeger recalled.

Paul volunteered to play on the song, so Kroeger overnighted him the tape and encouraged him to record a new drum track over the one played by NICKELBACK drummer Daniel Adair. "He thought about it for a while," Kroeger said, "then he decided that Daniel had done such an amazing job that we should leave it the way it was. That's when he sent the guitar parts from 'Vulgar Display of Power' and 'Far Beyond Driven', which we used for the solo."
very below 70 IQ type Dime question. sorry.
by Cazz on Thu Aug 18, 2005 5:44 pm
Did Dimebag smoke cigarettes at all. i was just sitting here thinking, i remember him in the home vid, sittin at a table with a pack of smokes, and then the solo he played with a smoke in his mouth.

its a pointless question i know.

by Mingeeta on Fri Aug 19, 2005 11:38 am
Okay, so I was in Phoenix in some guitar store called Guitar and Keyboard City, where I played the dime o flame and FBD Laughing

Anyway, my dad was talking to one of the guys that was helping us out and he said that he met Darrell when he was like 17 or something, playing Metallica songs in a club in the area! So after that he started telling my dad that his freind was one of the roadies for the band that was supporting Damageplan on the night Dimebag was shot. But the band decided that they wouldn't play. But it was also the same deal for Dime. Apparently Dime didn't want to play there, he didn't like the club or something, but Vinnie wanted to play there.

Vinnie must feel so guilty.

August 10 1994 Pantera was my first concert!
by Anonymous on Sat Aug 20, 2005 5:37 am
My first concert was Pantera and Prong at the the Mid South Coliseum in Memphis TN on August 10th 1994. Eleven years ago today. It totally changed my life and the lives of those who I went to the concert with. I was fortunate enough to be one of the people on this planet to be directly touched by the coolness of the one and only Dimebag Darrell.

At the time I was 19 years old. A young and aspiring guitarist from a remote community in Northeast Arkansas, I had never seen a REAL heavy metal concert and I needed an opportunity to see a kick ass concert so that I would have my batteries of musical inspiration recharged. When I found out about the concert, my brother and I along with six other friends jumped at the chance to go see this event.

We rode with a couple of friends in the back of an old Nissan pickup 90+ MILES from Paragould Arkansas to Memphis Tennesee and showed up nearly three or four hours early so that we could have front seats at the show.Thinking back on it now it was a very dangerous undertaking and I can't believe that we did it but at the time we were so full of enthusiasm that we didn't give a damn about the s#%t that could have befallen us. I mean come on. Pantera....

So once we finally got in the venue we ran to the pisser and then ran as fast as we could to the front row. I remember being totally blown away at the stage setup. . It had quite a psychological impact on me. It looked easy. I felt like "Hey I can do that."

Prong was first. Man they just straight up kicked some ass. We fought to keep our places on the front row and it was worth it. I remember Tommy Victor damn near inciting a full blown Southern styled riot when he said "Hey there's only one guy in the mosh pit and he's a Yankee." LOL. They were so awesome.

When Pantera came out they opened up with "A New Level" and Dime walked right up to where I was at and started rocking out. He kept looking our way smiling and jamming and just having a great time. I was so overwhelmed that this guy, the worlds greatest metal guitarist, was right in front me and acknowledging me and my friends. When they played "Strength Beyond Strength" next I remember he looked me dead in the eye and we sang that s#%t word for word. He never lost that smile the whole time.

Finally I screamed as loud as I could "I love you man, You're the greatest." He laughed and tossed me his pick in the middle of the song. Time seemed to stop...I caught it! After the show my friend that was next to me said the look on my face was priceless. Man that brief exchange of super coolness really taught me a lot and still to this day reminds me of how to treat people who love your music. During their beer break Vinnie walked up to me and gave me His beer. Just like I was one of the guys. I was floored.

I still have that pick...

I had played in bands before that night and I knew that I wanted to jam but I was at a stage where I was in a rut and kind of losing steam. After that night the intensity of my musical aspirations increased exponentially.

I know that was just another show for Pantera but for me it was a night that I will never forget. It changed my life and for that I will forever be greatful. I hope and pray that one day that my band will make it to that point. I feel the need to pass it on and in my own little way in my own little world I have already started. If I can pass on 1/10th of that kind of coolness that the guys in Pantera showed us that night then I will feel like that my life's work will be done.

That's all. RIP Dime. I still refuse to believe that you are gone. You're with all of us.

Live from the South,

Happy Birthday Dime... I still think of you everyday...

Man, I don't even know what to say. I mean, this man is the reason why I even continued playing to make it to the point I'm at now. I'm nearly in tears writing it because I still can't believe he's gone. I read so much about him and I am going to be well known someday and It was my dream to open for Damageplan someday. Now, I don't even really look forward to seeing most bands in concert anymore. I still think to myself, "why? why did this happen?" I guess I'll never know the answers but If I would've been in Cleveland that day, I would've took those bullets for him but no one can ever really know what's going to happen life. I just remember the stories I read about him and try to live my life as gracious, caring, selfless, and generous as he was. I read an article about how he was in a music store one day and a kid and his father were in there and the kid wanted to start playing and he wanted a particular guitar so bad. Later, Dime bought the kid his first guitar and amp. How cool is that? I just wish I had enough money so I could be that generous on a daily basis! All I can say now is Happy Birthday to Dime and I hope to see the next Damageplan album out soon. I'll never forget the guitar lessons I learned from his tabs in guitar interviews and without him, I wouldn't be s#%t. Thank you Dime. Happy birthday man!

Fresh Blood
Dimebag Darrell Reinvents Texas Metal
by Adam St. James

Born down in Dallas, raised on the rock 'n' roll road. That's an apt description of Damageplan guitarist and former Pantera member (Pantera founder, actually) Dimebag Darrell. While the truth may never be known about the breakup of his former band, Dime ain't too worried. His new group, Damageplan, is ready to whoop major ass, and Dime guarantees it!

Damageplan's debut disc, New Found Power, proves that the power in Pantera was all courtesy of Dime and brother/drummer Vinnie Paul. That power is now readily transferred to the new lineup, which includes former Halford guitarist Pat Lachman on vocals, and tattoo artist/bassist Bob Zilla on the low end.

In this Guitar.com exclusive, Dime tells us about the new disc, the new band, and his new signature model guitars, amps, and pedals. F@#%n' A! T-totally Cool muthaf@#^#er!

Guitar.com: Hello?

Dimebag Darrell: Adam? Dimebag. What's goin' down dude?

Guitar.com: I'm checkin' out the "Breathing New Life" video off your website. What are you doin?

Dimebag: I'm doin' pretty GOLDARN' good. Just chillin' here at the house.

Guitar.com: It must feel good to get out there with some new people and rip it up all over again.

Dimebag: F@%$^n' A. Fresh blood is the sh#$ man!

Guitar.com: I don't know your tour sked right now. Do you have some gigs in the States coming up? I know you've got Canada in June.

Dimebag: Dude, it's not all marked in. I haven't seen it yet either. I just know we're here for another couple days. I believe this Friday we play a Wisconsin gig. And then we go to Europe for like two weeks. And then we come back and do some Canadian dates with Slayer. Everything's kinda up in the air for the summer.

Guitar.com: I see you've got Milwaukee's Summerfest on July 1st. That's a killer festival. You ever been there?

Dimebag: I've heard all about it.

Guitar.com: You'll have like 20,000 people in front of you there.

Dimebag: Bad ass!

Guitar.com: So tell me about your latest guitar arsenal. Do you have any new gear?

Dimebag: We're always creatin' new s#@t. I've got new pedals comin' out with Dunlop. I'm always doin' s#@t with the Dime guitars, always trying to upgrade and update 'em. I've got new paintjobs comin'. I've got the new Dime Warhead X2, which is the second coming of the Warhead amp. It's basically a stripped-down version of the Warhead 1. The Warhead 1 had so many bells and whistles on it that if you didn't know what you were doing, you could either tune it in really kick ass, or you could lose focus of what you were doing. I had so much stuff on that thing because I wanted everybody to have full control over it. But kids today just want to plug in and jam. So I've kinda just simplified the Warhead 2 so there's no way you can get any uncool tones out of it.

Guitar.com: What kind of pickups are you using in your guitars right now?

Dimebag: I'm using the Dimebucker, made by Seymour Duncan.

Guitar.com: And it's the same one that people can get in your signature model guitars, right? Dimebag: Absolutely. I called them up and said, 'Send me a dozen of them.' And I put them in all my guitars. And every Dimebag guitar from Washburn comes stock with them. We're doin' some 59s in the neck position, and we're f'in' around with a couple of different hybrid pickups. We're always tryin' to make it better, tryin' to make it cooler. Ones called the Stealth, ones called the Dime 3. And that's pretty much all I play.

Guitar.com: And the Warhead 2? What are you doing to simplify the amp?

Dimebag: It's basically just 300 watts of pure molten steel. I had put so much on there: I had a nine-band EQ, mid-range scoop. All sorts of different stuff that, if you're not a super-technical guy, it can get a little too involved. A lot of kids today just want to plug in and rip, so I've simplified the X2 so that it's a little bit more idiot-proof, so to speak.

Guitar.com: Where are you tuning for the new Damageplan album?

Dimebag: You know, tuning to me is just one of those deals where Vinnie gets behind the drums, I pick up a guitar, and we start jamming. Usually we'll be into a groove immediately, and we'll end up rolling tape and writing a whole song. And when we go to double guitars and put bass on it, then we start going, 'Oh s#@t, where is this thing tuned?' I just grab a guitar and no matter what it's tuned to, if it sounds good, I go with it.

But mainly everything is C#, and sometimes drop the big string down a step. And the lowest we get is B across the board.

Guitar.com: B standard tuning?

Dimebag: Yeah.

Guitar.com: A couple years ago I wrote a lesson for Guitar.com based on a Pantera song, and the tuning was somewhere between C# and D.

Dimebag: The way the whole Pantera thing fell into place was just, back in the day, playing clubs, six nights a week, three one-hour sets a night. We started dropping the pitch down more and more for the singer, then we started getting into the heaviness of it. And we got to a spot we thought, 'There it is, that's our tuning.' And you put a little circle on your tuner, like this is where it is. We've never tuned normal, it's just one of them deals.

Guitar.com: And you're using your signature DR strings on all these guitars?

Dimebag: Absolutely. I really dig the DR. Everything about them. You pull them out of the package. You put them on, they tune right up, they stretch right out and settle real easy. A lot of strings keep f@#%$n' with you back and forth, going sharp and stuff. Once you get up to pitch, you're pretty much set. And I'm doing Floyd Rose whammy bars all over the place, and pull back 10 steps, and stuff like that. And they don't do out of tune. And it's pretty f@#$# amazing. They last as many shows as we wanna go back to back. My tech usually changes my main guitars every two gigs. He likes to keep 'em super fresh. But I put 'em on a guitar around the house for a year and they're still cool.

Guitar.com: These strings come in all different gauges. Which set do you use?

Dimebag: Depending on the tuning of the guitar. If it's tuned down low, low, low, the heavier string you use, so it ain't just floppin'.

Guitar.com: So you use the .011 to .050 set for that?

Dimebag: Right. On the tuned-up stuff I go with the .009s, which are a lot lighter.

Guitar.com: Ernie Ball has six different gauges of these sets.

Dimebag: Well, we don't have just two tunings. We actually - on songs like "Moment of Truth" - we just kinda f@%# around with the tunings. We said, 'Man that sounds pretty heavy. Let's drop it another half-step just to see what it does.' And then we'd go another half, and it would get heavier, and we'd go another half. And there's actually a point around B and A# where the heaviness goes away and you just can't tell what the note value is. I don't know if there is such a thing as too low, but I think there is. It just gets mushy.

Guitar.com: Have you played baritone guitars, like the Fender Sub-Sonic?

Dimebag: Oh yeah. I got a couple baritones; we throw those in there too.

Guitar.com: You don't ever have different tunings in different parts of a song, do you?

Dimebag: No. We always make it where we're completely capable of playing it live.

Guitar.com: Are you recording analog or digital.

Dimebag: Pretty much digital. We do have the analog 24-track MCI in there. For warmth on s#@t sometimes we'll fly it to analog just to get the warmth out of it, then fly it back to digital. But pretty much is cut on the Radar 2, and chop chop.

Guitar.com: You have your own studio out back of your house, don't you?

Dimebag: It's about 20 feet away from where I'm standing right now. It's not huge or nothing, but it's got plenty of room for what we're doing. It's just going to be the band and (producer) Sterling Winfield down there, anyway. We just go down there and crank up and start going at it. It was originally just gonna be just a jam room, so I could have friends come over and just get drunk and crank s#@t up. But we rolled in the live recording gear, and here goes Vinnie making demos. And the demos sounded really good. And we've just kinda been buildin' on it for the past six or eight years.

Guitar.com: Do you engineer, or do you leave that to someone else?

Dimebag: In the main studio downstairs, I leave that to Sterling and Vinnie. I can cut somebody else's part, but it's kind of Vinnie or Sterling cuttin' that stuff. I have kind of a sister studio to it upstairs in my house. And that's just for me. Downstairs is always set up for whatever we're doing with Damageplan. We don't use it for anybody else, so the board is always set up for whatever ideas we have. The sister board upstairs, is just for me writin' rough ideas on four-tracks.

Guitar.com: Are you using Pro Tools downstairs?

Dimebag: They've got the Digi 01. We hooked that up for cuttin' a couple extra parts on the side. We don't really use it the way most people do. Most people use Pro Tools and they play a part one time, then chop it up and move it around and try to fix everything and make it perfect. We don't use it like that. We just use it like another couple extra tracks.

Guitar.com: With the new album, is your new singer playing any guitar at all?

Dimebag: No. He totally cut the guitar and picked up the singer role. Me and Vinnie have always been kind of a three-piece kind of thing: bass, drums, and guitar. And we weren't really lookin' for a two guitar arsenal. And when he said he wanted to be part of it, I told him I pretty much had the guitar handled. As much as I know he's a kick-ass guitar player and I love all those Halford records, [Editor's note: Pat Lachman was previously a guitarist in Halford, fronted by ex-Judas Priest vocalist Rob Halford.) whenever we look at him live, and he's throwin' down, he's completely natural with what he's doin'. He totally kicks ass.

Guitar.com: Did he write with you or were the songs already written when he joined?

Dimebag: The majority of them were written before anybody was a part of it, and we were searching. Once he became a part of it - he's a great songwriter as well - and he moved to Texas and started helping with the arrangements, and just became a part of the whole thing. We all kind of pushed each other and took it to a new place. On the next round we'll all be writin' all together. It's pretty much always gonna be Vinnie and Dime writin' the music. Zilla (bassist Bob Zilla) will come up with his bass lines. And Pat will write the lyrics and sing his balls off. That's always been the formula, even in Pantera: Me and Vinnie wrote 99.9 percent of the music, and Phil wrote the lyrics.

Guitar.com: Bob's your tattoo artist as well?

Dimebag: Yeah!

Guitar.com: That's convenient.

Dimebag: Dangerous and convenient at the same time. We got a little ink slung last time we were out, but we're really just concentratin' on hangin' with the fans and kickin' ass with the show.

Guitar.com: And the fans have been supportin' you.

Dimebag: T totally cool man. I wasn't sure if there was gonna be a backlash and everybody shoutin', 'Pantera!' But that wasn't the case at all man. Everybody knows what happened, everybody knows the whole scoop. And they know me and Vinnie Paul never turned our backs on 'em, and they're there for us, man!

Take nothin' away from the Pantera days, those were some of the greatest years of my life. But when you do something so many times like that, it almost becomes - you know how people say, 'I could do that in my sleep.' - it almost becomes so routine and robotic that you don't even realize what kind of performance you're giving.

And all I can say is with Damageplan, motherf@#$ers leave with their asses seriously whooped when we leave! We play a good hour or hour and 20. We only have one record out. Back in the Pantera days we'd play 40 minutes sometimes, and that wasn't due to me or Vinnie. There's a lot of things that we've been cut loose with, that we're able to do with Damageplan that we weren't able to do with Pantera. We just think the fans deserve their money's worth. They deserve a full-blown ass-whoopin'. They get no bulls#@t. I get up and play a guitar solo, and people really get off on that 'cause nobody does that anymore. We use our capabilities in this band, and the fans are f@#$#n' apes#@t.

Guitar.com: You've got to encourage them new bands you're playing with to do some soloing too man!

Dimebag: It's all up to them. I say if they can do it, get it out there!

Guitar.com: Well keep rockin' man. Thanks for your time dude.

Dimebag: Anytime Adam. Thanks for getting' the word out about Damageplan man!

Dime,

I met you twice and you treated me like a long time friend both times. Inviting me to come backstage and drink with you. You are my hero, my friend, and my brother. I love you and will never forget what you did for guitar or metal. I could say a lot more, but you know what it is. As I hear your music and see your videos, tears still fill my eyes. Yes, from sadness because you're gone, but also because I won't get to throw back any more shots with you, or be front row while you display your magic at shows, or hear any new music you create. I miss you. I see pictures of you in my room, bathroom, car, everywhere man, and I miss you even more. But most importantly, I will never forget you. The impression you made on me was more profound than anyone else. I can't wait till we meet again, and we'll jam, throw some back, and have a good time.

It's important to focus on how great your life and contributions were, not how you were taken from us. I'll never forget, and you will always be in my heart. I'll throw back some Black Tooths for you today!

FOREVER STRONGER THAN ALL

I love you-My Friend, My Brother, and My Hero....
As I listen to "I'm Broken", and wipe the last tears from my eyes, and let the goosebumps go down-
Until we meet again,
Getcha' Pull and Riff in Peace Brother Dime

Shine on......I miss you so much........but you're always with me...

Darrell,

This is a day to celebrate all you mean to your fans, friends and family! I feel blessed to have known you and to have witnessed your growth 1st hand from the earliest club days in Dallas-Ft. Worth.

The 1st time I met you and heard you play...you changed my life. You made me realize that a human could be able to do the impossible on guitar!!

You made me lust after and dream of someday owning a Dean ML!! ( To think that my 1st Dean ML was 1st owned by you and would evolve into the "Dean From Hell" is beyond belief!!)

By now most of your fans must realize that Pantera's overnight success actually was about 10 years in the making...
time has proven that it was worth the wait!!!

You and Vinnie's dedication, determination, loyalty and success have been an inspiration to me and should be to all that know your story.

Your talent is humbling to me...
Your friendship is precious to me...

There are only so many people you meet in your life that are larger than life. Your persona is bigger than the Texas you loved and never left!!!

Your smile lit up a room!!!...your humor filled it...
to be in your presence and not be happy was impossible for me...

Those of us that knew you since you were a teenager know that after the fame, money, big house, endorsements and nice cars became yours... you were still the same kid that loved Dean ML's his mom and dad, brother, Rita and his close friends...

You always made time for me whenever are paths crossed throughout the 23 years since we 1st met.

You never stopped thanking me for that guitar...

You never stopped thanking me for whatever I may have done for you...

You never stopped shoving Black tooths and silver bulletts down my throat...

You never stopped making me smile...

You never stopped making me laugh...

You never stopped inspiring me...

You never stopped making me proud...

I will never stop thanking you....

I will never stop spreading "The Gospel Of Dimel"

I will never stop celebrating you...

I will never stop being there for Vinnie and Rita...

I will never stop smiling when I think of all the crazy times we shared!!!

I will never stop missing you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are one of the greatest gifts in my life!!!

As long as I live, YOU LIVE!!!

I LOVE YOU...

Buddy Blaze

Here is the automatic translation (sorry for the spelling) of the post and comments:

Post:
I still haven't got the chance to pay my due homage to the best metal guitarist of its generation and without a doubt one of best and the more original of all times! He was brutally assassinated while performing live on stage while he was doing what he does best.

Comment by Crmk:
And here we are attending the disappearance of our musical references... I knew recently that Mr. Tommy Vance, owner of a distinctive voice and an exemplary taste for the metal and the history of the metal, someone that gave a lot for the growth of a rare species of music, died, also! At 63 years old with a heart attack... But to die assassinated on stage is something that alone is reserved (sadly) to some! And if Dime was not already a legend in our world and imaginary, easily it would start to be it now. Still I remember so well in ' 94 to hear time and time again the opening of the Vulgar Display of Power...
Dragffys, that they rest in peace in the Metal Heavenl (that must be great spot;) and like a song lyric we know so well said "If gonna die... die with your boots on"!

Comment by Nosfas:
therefore it is...
As real as it is, it seems that we still did not accept that it has been this way, and continue to think about this laterally as if was only another common rumor or a lie....
its bizarre, at the very least... this $hit for which we do not have any understanding or notion of and call it life...
1 - to leave uninjured years and years of abused tournées, filled with drugs, alcohol to the gallons and triple sex, is really something...
2 - to make all this and still to manage to compose some of the riffs of guitar that leaves some of us marked as none other [ (I speak for me, but I believe that you guys feels the same) - the guitar of the "Cemetery Gates" and "Hollow", still today leaves me sufficiently moved ], still is more brutal...
3 - fuk.... after having more had contact years in the wire with the most insane scenes than a dude can imagine, to be assassinated in full performance... you just cant believe it. I presume that in the end of it all, he had the privilege that few will have... died making what he liked best. This is the memory that I insist in keeping. RIP

Comment by Andretti:
... It is a thing that still nowadays cost to believe, he was The guitarist who I still dreamed to see live in Portugal! Dime had and has personality, charisma, feeling, a way that has to be unique to say the least, even for those who never had the chance to meet him as myself. Its enough to read and to see the interviews, to see the DvD Vulgar Videos (1,2,3) to perceive this!
Cheers!

What can i say that hasn't been said countless times already about Dimebag....He is, was , and always will be the man. Simply a guitar player....no, not exactly. Dimebag was one of those guys that is just so naturally talented on his instrument...that you know it's not just all the practice and sweat and tears....it's a gift. A gift given to him from above that trancends down as a gift for his fans..because i know that his guitar playing and his love for life in general is an inspiration to so many guitar players of all ages...I'm no different.
So i got to admit....Dime was't the reason i started playing guitar...that trophy goes to skid row. I was a huge skid row fan when i was in fourth grade...so i wanted to emulate them and i got a guitar and started playing. It was tough at first..i was never able to afford lessons so I thought about giving it up. Then in happened. My mother took me and some friends to see skid row....and Pantera opened the show. I was never the same..I picked up cowboys from hell the next day and i was so inspired by dimes playing, that i gave up on giving up guitar. He gave me a reason to keep going and practice...i saw pantera again that same week...and two weeks later i was already figuring out how to do harmonic squeels and all that great stuff. Dimes riffs were just massive and i wanted to emulate that...and I'll probably never be up to Dimes standards but i don't need to be...to pure enjoyment and relief i get from playing my guitar is enough...it's all i need....the one thing i would take to a deserted island , sort of speak...all these years later..i finally made a dream of mine come true...I always wanted a Dean guitar just like Dime used....and now that I'm older and can afford the better things in life...i made it happen....i got the Dean guitar of my dreams and between that and the inspiration of Dimebag's music...my guitar playing is beastly now...in the past 6 months i have been able to become twice the guitar player i was for 14 years before that...it's really an amazing thing.
So then .....Pantera...my God...Pantera...I was fortunate enough to see them live 26 times over the years...i still have every ticket stub...and unlike most concerts i go to these days i really got my money's worth at a pantera show...i never felt cheated once...and every show has it's own set of memories...From the time i was in the mosh pit with a fever of 102 (sorry i probably got you all sick, but it was worth it) to the time i fell off the top of the crowd and hit my head on Dimes moniter....i got up, no problem, and there was Dime right there to slap me five , mid song, while playing....that felt great...i met so many great people at those shows...and while i can go on all day with the memories...I'm sure anyone reading this knows what i mean, because they have memories of there own. It's and unsaid bond we have...something that doesn't need to be discussed..say the name Pantera and a fan will just get that smirk across their face that says it all.....it says " yeah man....i was there too...i know, i know"

Anyway....Dime....we've got a lot of people here by me, friends, family....you touched all our lives in some way or another. So without further ado we begin with the next phase of our lives by celebrating and honoring your memory....Dime Day will be an important holiday for the rest of my life...a chance to stop and give thanks to the man that rocked a guitar like no other. I've got a handful of joints and a fresh bottle of crown and we are all throwin it back for you today Dime...We miss you immensely brother. happy birthday.

"Ride For Dime" Weekend Has Begun!!
by askadan on Sat Aug 20, 2005 11:51 am
The party began Friday night in Dimebag's hometown of Arlington, Tx with a huge gathering of friends and fans at his favorite neighborhood bar Monte Carlos. With Pantera home videos playing on all of the monitors, Status Hate kickin it on stage, Black Tooths flowing, this was just the beginning of many activities scheduled for this weekend celebrating the life of the legendary Dimebag Darrell Abbott. Once everyone sobers up today we will all be meeting at The Clubhouse where the 1st anual "Ride For Dime" motorcycle run will take place to help raise money for the victims of the shootings in Columbus, Ohio. The ride will stop for dinner at Dime's favorite restaurant Campo Verde and then ride through Elkins Park where Dime used to go to relax, and on one ocassion with Zakk Wylde tore up the soccer field with his car. We will then pass by his high school, and then lastly pass by Moore Memorial Gardens, Dime's final resting place, and toss flowers as we pass the cemetery gates. The ride will then head back to the Clubhouse where we will be partying Dime-style. Anyone in the local area who would like to join in on the ride can do so by showing up for registration at 2:00 PM. Long Live Dimebag!!

Dime saved metal
by prometal313 on Sat Aug 20, 2005 12:49 pm
First and foremost I want to say happy Birthday to day to dime.
Then i would like to thank him for saving metal for me. i was just about ready to give up on music and playing guitar because of what i was hearing out there all the new bands coming up were playing that crappy taint licking seatle grunge crap and the older metal bands seemed like they were fading away. it also was a real pain in the taint to get anyone interested in jamming some true metal with leads and minus rapping. Then in desperation i picked up a cd at the local store from a band i never heard of. you guessed it Pantera's Cowboy's from Hell. I figured WTF it can't be worse than anything else i wasted my money on. I left the store put the cd in the player and went F***king nuts i could not believe my ears from note 1 i was addicted Finally a band that was rippin out true metal(atleast true metal to me). The bottom line is that as far as i am concerned Dimebag saved metal music for me and i thank him and vinnie paul from the bottom of my heart every show i went to they gave me 110% of my moneys worth and kept it true the whole time. THANK YOU DIME!!!

Always in my thoughts... Happy Birthday Darrell
by Anonymous on Sat Aug 20, 2005 1:02 pm
I am so fortunate to have known you and I'm better for it today. Everyone knew you were bound for greatness, but not everyone got to know you as I. Looking back on the pictures, I still feel the goosebumps as crowds were blown away when you played... and you were just barely 17 then. Almost twenty years later, I run into you at a NIN concert and you treated my like we never parted. And I can not recall anytime that you were down about anything. You were so positive about life and loving of fans and never took it for granted. You proved to me that you can be anything you want to be as long as you love what you are doing and are good at doing it. My God, Darrell, no one could ever love his job or do it as well as you did it, and you never ever let it get to your head. I miss you tremendously. When good things happen to me, I feel you had some part in it and I think of you often. It is so sad that people take life for granted and I regret we didn't stay closer after those short few years of knowing you. I love you Darrell, and I hope you are celebrating your birthday with mom, Randy and Jimi. My thoughts always for your family as well, I can't say how sad I feel for Vince and others close to you. But then, who couldn't get close to you?

Celebrate with us, as we are here together again.. Another year has passed, and there are more to come..

I'd miss you, but you're always here.. Today I'll sit back and think about how we talked and you got a kick out of how ashamed I was of my Jackson.. But, you were cool about it all..

Today is for you.. as it will be always..

I'm sure that we will meet again.. and have a Black Toothed Grin..

There's just so much I want to say, but I don't know how to phrase it.. Dime, you are a major influence on me, along with many other musicians but when i listen to your music it sort of calms me down and let's me realize how far I've come in music and how great of an artist you were.. My instructor Tom Kopyto said to me once, "There's a major difference between being a musician and being an Artist, Musicians play stuff from there favorite bands while artist create new things to play."
I was never able to meet him, it made me sick when i heard the news of the incident.. So sick that i didn't play guitar the whole rest of the month.. Then it struck me that Dime would've wanted me to play the guitar to my fullest potential no matter what, so then I put my 7-string down for a while and bought a Schecter S1 Flame, just two nights ago I put a Bill Lawrence 500 XL into it, it sounds amazing.. In roughly two weeks I'm going to be owning my first Dean, A Dimebag Darrell Tribute ML...

Dime, We all love you so much and you will live on in the Metal community for a very, very long time...

We Miss You...

Justin...

I moved into the "Dime & Vinnie" country of DFW, Texas a few years ago, and really had not been too familiar with Dime until then. Then Dime started showing up at the same clubs and such that the local area bands were playing in, never feeling that they were above everyone. A band I was in right after moving here was broke up, and the guitarist/vocalist took to the road on the Damageplan bus crew, which the band had switched after they did a show here in Dallas. "Long Story Shy," I have come to respect the awsome, non-cookie-mold playing these guys have done and wish I had been here long ago. RIP bro.........Never Forgotten!! http://www.myspace.com/domineone63

Dimebag,

I’ve been addicted to your playing since the first note I’ve heard from you, a Pantera fan from the early beginning. Listening to you breathtaking guitar playing always makes me feel strength, free and extremely alive… and always begging for more.

No more (!?)…
You’ve gone, but you are beyond Death.
You live through your genius and all the people you enthuse. Immortal even!
Everywhere in this Earth there are metal heads listening to you music or kids learning your tablatures and trying to be like you.

No one can mesmerise his instrument as you did! You’ve been blessed by God on the day you’ve came to this world and you had the graceful generosity to share your gift with all of us.

And for all of that, thank you!

Your are the man. Inspired me more than anyone else in every aspect of my life. I never cried more about anything else ever and I still do when I think about it. It seems like it didn't really happen and if I think hard enough than I can make it a dream, but I can't and that sucks. Cheers to the coolest person, the best most bad assed guitarist of all time, the best most perfect music and one of my best friends. Happy birthday Dime. Forever stronger than all. Eulogy for Dime
by Anonymous on Sat Aug 20, 2005 5:27 pm
Dimebag, I never got to meet you, but ever sense I discovered Pantera's music (when I was 14, and I'm now 19 going on 20) I've looked up to you and admired your work so much. Like many guitarists around the world, you were one of my main influences. Even after Pantera was gone, they were still one of my favorites, and I loved Damageplan as well. A wb Dime 332 was the first electric guitar I ever owned, and I still have it to this day. It sucks so much that it had to come out this way. I miss you and your work and kindness so much. as I said before, I never met you in person, but I know how you treated your fans, and it was always like they were family. I feel like I've really lost a brother and a positive influence in my life. It makes me very sad when I think about it, but I know your spirit will forever live in the hearts of all metal heads everywhere and your influence and impact in the metal and rock genre will never be forgotten. Ever. No one will ever replace you. You were one of a kind.

Gone, but never forgotten 1966-2004

Miss you so much,

I met this guy when I was in Big Twin Din at the Masquerade in Atlanta, GA. A few years after I bailed on Hallows Eve. All I remember about Darrell was that he was one of the coolest guys I had ever met. What a nice guy. Always one to hand you a beer and say "Rock on bro". We got to be friends w/ Pantera and opened for them a few more times over the years. What a tragic loss this has been to music and the hard rock genre. For such a great talent to be lost in such an undeserving way. Darrell we miss you very much, but your true spirit will live on w/ me every time I hear any of your music. For me, I will never forget the Lone Ranger of the COWBOYS FROM HELL!!!

Things I remember about Dime:

•The spit wall in his bedroom that he was so proud to show off

•Bringin’ the mike stand out on to the dance floor at Matley’s and letting everyone come up and scream out Seek & Destroy.

•Diamond Darrell

I loved you guys so much back then and was so proud to watch as Pantera exploded world-wide.

Rest in Peace old friend. You are forever loved and missed.

by adamhrock on Sat Aug 20, 2005 10:29 pm
What can be said about this @#%$@!!& up situation that hasn't already been said.....I cried when I heard what happened....I cried lookin and funeral clips.....Even listening to his music now....brings a tears to my eyes.....I can't say that I knew Darrell personally, but having said that, it still feels like I lost a brother....I listen to his music everyday and could only aspire to one day be half the musician he was.....Here is a quote of Dime's that gives me new found power every day:

"All of us hit a point in life where we need resurrecting, and it's up to you to make it happen, staighten things out and let go of things that are @#%$@!!& up. Where I sit, man, I'll never quit - I love music and I love thew fans too much. So I put on my badass shoes and started kicking ass with this band. It's been a lot of hard work to crawl out of the hole, and it hasn't been easy, but at this point I've got my family, my brotherhood, my music and a crushing new band. I've got everything back that was taken from me, and I'm in a good frippin place. What was once a miserable nightmare has bloomed into a very sweet, comfortable place. Amen!!!"

I hope to see you on the other side Dime.....we miss you beyond anything!!!!

Pantera was the first band to make me completely freak out about the guitar... it was funny too, because the first times I listened to them I didn't like metal that much. But after a couple listens I was an addict! Dimebag was one of the only guitarists where I'd hear what he was doing, and not know how the %$#@! he was doing it!! Dime thank you for so many hours and hours of music I've got to play on my guitar, and for begin who you were. You are number #1
Gone.....but NEVER forgotten!

Dime Day
by Zorak on Sat Aug 20, 2005 11:41 pm
Dime Day,

It has been 9 months since Darrell was killed, and it still SUCKS. I am a huge fan of Dime and Vinnies and I have been for the last 11 years. I have a few stories to tell, and I hope everyone reads them, and remembers the most amazing, talented, hilarious, nice Cowboy From Hell.

Dime Story 1-
I have been a fan of Pantera since I was in 8th grade, in 1994, I got to witness Pantera play 12 times, and 3 Damageplan shows….just pure entertainment, and energy.
So in 1999 I won tickets to see the Allman Bros here in Chicago and I wasn’t a big fan, but I knew they had been around for ever, and being a music fan, I just decided to go and check them out, as the night is going on, this guy next to me and his girlfriend are just getting wasted, partying, and having a good time, and eventually he started talking to me (you know drunk people talk to anyone). He asked me why I was there, and I told him I had won tickets, but I was really into metal, a huge Dimebag fan, Pantera, Slayer, ect. So he goes “Oh, Dimebag, He’s a good buddy of mine” (I’m thinking “sure he is crackhead”) ….and then he introduced himself and gave me his business card…it said “Washburn Guitars, Carl Schlacher, Vice President” Carl was there because Derek Trucks was playing with the Allman Bros, and he was endorsed by Washburn at the time. Carl told me to email him my address, and he would have Dime send me something….I figured if I got anything at all, it would probably be a signed photo or something……then a couple of weeks later I get to big boxes from UPS…opened it up….Christmas in July (or August) Dime had sent me TONS of Awesome stuff…..3 autographed posters, about 6 autographed photos, 2 T-Shirts, the “3” video (which had just come out and I just bought for 20 bucks) and a bag of 45 Dimebag/Pantera 101 Proof Guitar Picks…..I nearly pissed myself. I emailed Carl and told him thanks a million, and thank Dime for me, then I told him since you took care of me, I’ll take care of you, and went out and bought a Washburn (I know this is the Dean site….I have a Dean ML too, I have 14 guitars).

Dime Story 2-
I have been collecting autographs pretty much all my life, and I got away from the sports stars in my mid teens, when I realized a lot of them are overpaid icehole jocks (especially my childhood hero Roger Clemens….jagoff ). So as I got more into music, I started chasing the bands I liked, and found that musicians are a lot cooler, friendlier, and some are just as broke as me, if not more. My one idol, Mr. Dimebag Darrell, I tried to meet almost everytime he came to town…..I always met the opening bands, the Pantera Road Crew from all the videos, Phil, Pat Lachman, Bob Zilla, ect. But never met Dime. Then Damageplan was playing with Shadows Fall, Nov 21, 2004 in Chicago at the House of Blues, where I had tried and failed to meet Dime before, so I decided to go a day early, and see the show at the Rave in Milwaukee. I was out waiting by the buses for hours, me and 2 other guys from Madison WI, we waited and waited and met the guys from Shads, the Haunted, Pat L and Bob Zilla, then as it was getting closer to show time security started hassling us, saying we “can’t be standing outside, he’s going to call the police, go in the show NOW” . That scared the other 2 guys away, Well I had been collecting autographs for a long time, and knew how to deal with security, and I just kept waiting, I would go hide for a while, out of the view of security, I had walked past the security guard so he thought I was leaving, and walk all the way around the block and come back where I was waiting…..eventually security gave up on me, they thought I was gone….and a few minutes later…..there he is King Diamond Darrell Himself, waddling down the street, with his funky walk, wearing a green suede jacket. I ran up to him and he gladly signed all my cd booklets, he seemed like he was kind of in a hurry, but he still stopped and talked for a minute, took a picture with me…I told him that I thought “You, and Pat, and Jon Donais should all come out on stage tonight and put on your own little G3 concert, because you are all so bad ass on guitar” he just kinda laughed……and then he was gone. I got inside and to my amazement, there were no “Warheads” on stage, what is “Krank?” and then Dime came out and tore s#%t up, Playing some new Dean ML’s, with DIME printed on the headstock, like I had never seen in my previous other 14 Dimebag experiences, Show was AMAZING, Sound was great, and halfway through the show Dime pointed right at me…..no wait, he pointed right to the guy standing in front of me in the camera/security well, in between the stage and the barricade, he said “I’d like to introduce the man responsible for the guitars I’m playing on stage tonight Mr. Dean Z-man” and then proceded to talk about how great it was to be back with Dean, the guitar he started with , and how Washburns were great but were never the same as those original Deans. Also during that show the Kat came out with huge bottles of Crown (or 7, I can’t remember) and was poring shots into the mouths of everyone in the crowd. After the show, I thought, “should I wait and try to meet him again, I got my ML in the car, I could have DIME & DEAN sign it.” But I said “nah, them 2 will probably be partying all night, and not come out of the Rave until 3 in the morning”, (like other times I had waited for Dime) and I still had an hour and a ½ drive back to Chicago. The day had gone so good, I didn’t want to ruin it.

18 days later, I got a call at 5:30am from my friend who works at Q101, a Chicago Radio Station, and he woke me up with the worst news ever.

The state of music has just been swirling downard every single day since then. Concerts suck. I was at the Dimebag Tribute show, with Anthrax, Disturbed, DP, and Soil the show kicked ass, but the crowd was weak, nowhere near the intensity of a Pantera Show, even when they played frippin Hostile, A New Level, and Walk….the crowd was just weak. I loved the fact that Disturbed ended the night with a song Dime would have loved, and not a song that everyone else knew, or loved. Cold Gin

Dean Z-man Kills Me
Shortly after Dime was killed, Dean posts the following on his site….
“Just a few weeks ago I was with Darrell at a show in Milwaukee . Backstage after the show 2 kids were waiting at the stage door and would not leave without seeing Darrell. When he got wind of this he insisted they be brought back to meet him. These kids were so in awe to meet their idol, then Darrell rocked their world when he put them on the VIP list for the Chicago show the very next day.”
I couldn’t believe what I read, were these the guys I had been waiting with before the show??? %$#@! I should have Stayed.

I’ve seen over 200 shows in the last decade, the greatest guitarists in the world, Vai, Zakk, Iommi, Jimmy Page, Satch, John Petrucci, Mustaine, Marty Friedman, Yngwie, Scott Ian, Andreas Kisser, Trey Azagthoth, Kerry King, Jeff Hanneman, Kirk Hammet, Dave Murray, Buckethead, Jim Root, Mick Thompson, Ace Frehley and the list goes on and DIME WAS THE frippin BEST, I never seen any other guitarist, do a sprint on stage in the middle of a solo, none of these guitarist never thrash/headbang like hell while playing…..half of them barely move…..none of them have ever given me booze from the stage….and none of them made me laugh or smile, just from watching them goof around on stage, damn, I miss you Dime, THANK YOU for 15 of the most entertaining nights of my life, and for a lifetime of great music and memories

Aug 20, 2005
My band played last night, a local Metal show, and of course, I was drinking Black Tooth’s all night long, every body in the other band knew that after midnight, it was Dimes Birthday, so there were some Pantera riffs being thrown around, and a few toasts to Dime……But when I left the bar, 2am- Aug 20, 2005 here in Chicago it was non-stop lightning for a solid hour and at one point I looked at the sky and seen a huge bolt of lightning, the sky lit up Blue, a huge crash, with the the black background….it looked just like the Dean From Hell….and I thought, “That’s frackin Dime up there, Jammin, frackin waking up people at 2am to let them know the party is starting”

i was in the third grade when i first started geting into pantera and dimebag was immediately my favorite guitarist. he was the baddest son of a bitch to ever pick up a guitar and was my idol from the time i was still running around at recess singing COWBOYS FROM HELL to this very day. it was truely a life goal to meet him, and i am glad i got the chance. to make everything better, when i met him, he was the most sincere and down to earth person i had ever met. he was a legend, a guitar god, he had absolutely NO business coming out to meet with his fans, but he did, and when his roady took a picture of us and didnt use flash, he pointed it out and yelled at him for frackin up the picture. it was the night of my life. never before and never again will i shed tears over a man i had only met once in my life, but then again, never before and never again will there be a motherf@#$% like dimebag frackin darrell.....

rip dime, hope to see you soon and i hope god will allow a pantera reunion in heaven

Dimebag Darrell, I just want to wish you a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY and thank you for all of the times you hung out with me. And thanks for all of the ribbing about Tongs. You were one of a kind and I just cannot fathom that you are even gone. I still cry everyday and will cry until I meet up with you again in Heaven. I drove from Indiana to Arlington the week of your funeral and got to hang out with you one last time in the cemetery. Hopefully, I can make it a yearly event. You were like my brother after seeing you at over 50 concerts in the past 14 years. I would give anything to have those days back! It's too bad that other bands can't hang out with their fans like you ALWAYS did. My heart will forever be broken. Much love to YOU, Rita & Vinnie. You are my shining star and I watch you every single night twinkling down here in Indiana. Thanks for being such a great friend and for always sharing your music with us. YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN-EVER!!! Until we meet again, take care of yourself and know that you are loved very much!!! Love, Amy from Indiana
P.S. We're celebrating your birthday right along with you. I made you a cake and we're doing shots of Crown Royal. Wish you were here!!! Thanks for the memories, Darrell XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOX

Lord, how i miss you. you came into my life in late '01, just a high school kid gettin into heavy music, not realizing a band was out there ready to change my life. Pantera was to me what fire was to early man. my strength, my evolution. You turned me on to heavy music and ill never turn back. i was sad when pantera broke, but im glad you kept goin' with vinnie in Damageplan. you are what dreams are made of. a God, a King, you were like Midas, in that everything you touched turned to gold. then one of the worst days i have ever known happened. they took my dreams, my hope, my love. they blackened all that was pure. though I never had the honor of meeting you, i would have given my life for you. A million times. eight months now, i still sob, i love you so much, thank you for everything. Now you are with the good Lord, and a full bar eternaly. rest. With all my love, and respect. Strength beyond strength, stronger than all.

Happy Birthday Dime, you will always be my hero, your legacy lives on. I Kranked up Pantera even louder than usual today to honor you. Tonight I know every one of your fans (including me), family members and friends will raise a glass (hopefully more than one) for you. Now everybody get out the jagermeister and make a toast, to the hero who brings out the best in everyone!!!!

Dime, you were a helluva player and I'm beyond fortunate to have seen you live so many damn times - 6 I believe. They were six of the best concerts of my life and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for the good times. I am sad that I never got to know you and have a cold one with you. Tribute to Dime
by Anonymous on Sun Aug 21, 2005 1:06 am

We have always loved heavy metal music. Our boys aged 14 and 12 probably know more about metal than most 30 year olds ever will. They have grown up listening to metal and were inspired to play guitar and drums in the tradition of Vinnie and Dime. Dime was an extraordinary guy - he was not only a guitar virtuoso, but he was a great guitar player who was willing to share his talent by teaching kids how to play. He also helped other bands. We have followed Dime's career up to the final tragic day when he was taken from metal music. We grieved just as if a family member had been taken away. We toasted Dime that night with Black Tooth Grins and we also took shots with hot sauce in the true Texas manner! Thank you Dime for the riffs and for the person you were. You not only inspired our generation, but many to come as my boys will carry the torch playing the great music you loved. In this household, you will never be forgotten. See you in God's Tavern!

Happy Birthday Dime!!! You are a huge influence to me in every aspect of my life. With your music, your ability to hold your alcohol and most of all your personality. I look up to you and always will. I Kranked up Pantera extra loud today so you can hear it up there, I know you will appreciate it. The second it turned 12 this morning a had the jagermeister our and ready. I will do the same tonight. I know that everyone who is a fan, family and/or friend will raise a glass, hopefully a few of them and toast, to the hero who brought out the best in all of us!

My title explains it all man... Dime will continue to shred through my heart and yours, and he will always be remembered forever as the strength that has inspired us all. Today we're gonna celebrate our fallen brother, whether throwing back a black tooth, puttin on the cd's, tossin' the home videos on, or the personal best for musicians, rippin' s#%t out heavy like Dime would always prefer. For one hell of an inspiration and for that forever strong being, this day's for you Dimebag Darrell Abbott... I would not be the guitarist that i am without your help, and your personality and heart has given all of us more and more, so i thank you Dime.

Forever in our hearts... Forever Stronger Than All...

Happy B-day Dime!

Dimebag will always be the best frackin' guitar player ever. I remember first hearing those crazy ass riffs when I heard Mouth For War and it totally kicked my ass. From that moment forward I was a PanterA fan for life. I loved every album they put out and went to see them as many times as I could. I unfortunately never had the opportunity to meet Dime, which is very sad for me. However reading many interviews with artists after his passing, I know how cool of a mother buddy he was personally. So that makes me feel a little better. I was sad and shocked as %$#@! when the bad news hit the air and it was very @#%$@!!& up knowing that his legendary work was now over. However I realize that he is now rockin' out in his own place up in Heaven and that is cool. I will always enjoy Dime's work and I am satisfied that I can always pop in a masterpiece whenever I want. I love his work with all my heart, those songs put me on another planet of frackin' full out metal assault and I love every minute of it. So take care Dime, you will never be forgotten, that is a promise.
Forever your biggest fan...

His Greatness

Back in '94 during the TGSTK tour, I was blessed and fortunate to have met the man himself. I don't really talk 'bout it cuz it's a little embarassing. Only the people I was with know what went on.
It happened at The Cow Palace in SF. One of my buddies I was with somehow got Big Val to get us some backstage passes. So the 3 of us went on in. My sole purpose being that I wanted to meet The Dimemeister himself, and B.S. with him.
Well, there he was in the middle of this room full of people drinking, interviewing the band, etc. So I walk up to Dime (he's sitting in the middle of this big room drinking some Blacktooth Grin's) and I ask him for his autograph. No big deal. When he gives my ticket back with his signature, I figure I'd say something cool to him and we'd rap a little. But the only thing I managed to get out of my mouth was this:
DIME!! Dude!!! I've seen you on the cover of Guitar World, Guitar Magazine, you're bad-ass!!
He looked at me and says, "Oh. Hey, thanks!!"
Now I was only 21 when this happened. But I sounded like a f#$kin' 13 year-old. But it was what it was.
I look back on it now and think that not only was I lucky enough to meet one of the all-time greatest guitarists of heavy metal, but I got the chance to tell him how I really felt about him and his music. And that makes me sad and happy at the same time.
Much love to Vinnie and all of Dime's peep's. We're in this together!
Still hurting....

Now that you are dead and gone, I feel a hole in my heart cuz my guitar heroes all gave me hope with my own music. HAPPY BIRTHDAY DIMEBAG. Its just not right what happened to you. You should be celebrating your birthday here on earth with Rita, Vinnie Paul and your many friends.
My nephew looks like you and he is one of your biggest fans. He has the Dean from Hell tattooed on his arm and it says dimebag forever. He was devastated when you were taken away. Iy was just unreal to a lot of people.

"dimebag's dead eh?" he said, i just went into a trance man, it was terrible, i couldn't believe it, i only had the pleasure of seeing him live once, but it was by far the greatest show i had ever seen, watching that man rip out with his axe was incredible, and him being killed doing what he loved most just doesn' make any sense, dime, your in our hearts man, it's now 7 1/2 months later, and im still pissed. anyway, happy birthday man, belated birthday, keep ripping on in hell man, downre with randy, and jimi.

Dimebag,
My guitar hero...the reason why I picked up the guitar and learned to play. I always wanted to be able to play something like Dime, and to this day, 10 years later, the best I can accomplish is a mediocre mimic when it comes to picking out Dime's one of a kind riffs. You will forever be remembered in the hearts and minds of your fans the world over....the total opposite of what most might have expected from someone with the ability to be a "Rock Star" without the rock star attitude.....You are Loved and missed...
We'll see you on the other side....wherever that might be.

Dime,

As it is going on 9 months now that you were so unjustly and unfairly taken from us, I just want you to know that you are not and will not ever be forgotten. You were a modern day Randy Rhodes and by far, the sickest guitar player ever! Your unbelievable playing and crushing chops have inspired me so much that I do not want to ever put my guitar down. I feel extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to meet and talk with you in the times that I did. I remember the last time that I was able to see you play and that was with Damageplan here in Cincinnati. I just stood there in the front row, I was in total awe as I watched you literally abuse the fret boards of your guitars with your unbelievable playing and what I remember the most from that show was partying with You, Vinnie, Patrick and Bobzilla in the dressing room area after. Doing a couple shots of Wild Turkey with a guitar legend like you is something that I will never ever forget because I remember how you were telling all of us that were back there with you how proud you were of the Plan and how there would be a helluva lot more to come. There will never be another like you; you were one of a kind and definitely a great human being. Rest In Peace Brother Dime, and keep makin a lot of noise!

Dime-

There is nothing I can say that all of your fans are not feeling. I will always remember the day you died-- I was wearing camo pants. Ha, I love those pants. You inspired Me and all your fans. There has always been a fire and a kindness--(not to meantion the way you could shred--sends the most warming chills down my spine yet) that made us love you. It's almost as if you were a friend to anyway who lay an appreciative ear to your music. And that means so much to us. Your music was for everybody, not just certain people. Perhaps that is something we must all look up to you for. You were by far the most talented guitarist I have ever known, and no one can ever match you. You will alwasy live through your music, and through your fans love. Rest In peace, my dear friend. And thank you so much for sharing your talent with us.

(I already posted on your birthday & apparantly it didn't take-so I will post again).

Dimebag Darrell- I just want to wish you a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY! And thank you for all of the times you hung out with me. And thanks for all of the ribbing about Tongs. You were one of a kind and I just cannot fathom that you are even gone. I still cry every single day and will cry until I meet up with you again in Heaven. I drove from Indiana to Arlington the week of your funeral & got to hang out with you one last time in the cemetery. Hopefully, I can make it a yearly event! You were like my brother after seeing you at over 50 concerts in the past 14 years. I would give anything to have those days back! It's too bad that other bands can't hang out with their fans like you ALWAYS did. My heart will forever be broken. Much love to YOU, Rita and Vinnie. You are my shining star. I watch you every single night (that there is a clear sky) twinkling down here in Indiana. Thanks for being such a great friend and for always sharing your beer, music and love with us. YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN-EVER!!! Until we met again, take care of yourself & know that YOU ARE LOVED VERY MUCH!!!
Love, Amy from Indiana
P.S. We're celebrating your birthday right along with you. I made you a cake and we're doing shots of Crown Royal and Black Tooth Grins. Wish you were here!!! Thanks for the memories Darrell!!!XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOX

I got my life-size Dimebag standee today, and it was forced into a box that is not wide enough for the cut out!!!!!!
Very poor packing by the Dean Shop. Dime's fingers were bent and the corner of the ML was bent too, but thats nothing compared too the broken off headstock (broken at the 2nd fret)I'm very surprised that $71.73 gets you a messed up cutout of my hero. The package was not damaged at all during shipping, it was in the packing.

Okay, I downloaded this Pantera Live show, with a 9 minute solo!!. (Mp3) But I'm still having that problem with sending files so I'll give you guys the link, for anyone who wants to download it.

If you download it you might just find two solos in there which you may thought didn't exist at that time.

by Hrafn on Wed Aug 24, 2005 7:53 pm
I'm short of cash, and as such can't afford a FBD/Dime O Flame (shipping from the US and such) but I really want a Dime guitar and I have the opportunity to get a Washburn Dime333 Dimeslime/Bolt for really cheap (£399/$600).
I'm not sure about the quality of the guitars and I've heard they're not that good...what do you guys think I should do?

R.I.P. Dime
by Anonymous on Thu Aug 25, 2005 2:54 am
Dimebag Darrell is the GOD that caused me to pick up a guitar almost 10 years ago. I don't let a day pass that I don't jam to something written by Dime. He was a hero to many and the loss still affects me everyday. His life and the way he lived it will never be forgotton. R.I.P. Dime ... have a Blacktooth waiting for me when I get there will ya?
My X2 settings (pics)
by slaytanic on Thu Aug 25, 2005 7:13 pm
Well I have tweaked around with my X2 and my other effects, such as the Furman PQ-4 and the MXR blue 6 band EQ, being given some advice here on the forum by some, I have found a REALLY heavy sound. I still have a little more tweakage left but Im happy with what I've achieved so far. So heres some pics of my settings for some of you with X2's to play with, hope you like em. I wish I knew how to record my playing onto this computer so you all could hear it.

First off, here is the X2 settings

ImageImageImage

Heres the MXR 6 band

Image

Heres how I set my PQ-4

Input level-between 6 and 7

Low End
Frequency - half way between 100-180
bandwidth- 2 octave
EQ - +9

Mid 1

Frequency - 850
bandwidth - 2 1/2 octave
EQ - +9

Mid 2
Frequency - hair above 2.5k
bandwidth - hair above 1 octave
EQ - +9

High End
Frequency - 12.5k
bandwidth - 2 1/2 octave
EQ - +9

I have the EQ in the effects loop
heres the order

effects loop send to PQ-4 LOW level input, PQ-4 output to MXR input, MXR output to input on rocktron hush pedal (threshold set at zero), out on hush to return in effects loop.

You must keep the loop assign buttons in the OUT position when using the amps foot pedal. Turn the loop on from the pedal. If you dont have the hush you will get a harsh squealing noise when you let off the strings. Plugging it in stopped this. I use the loop effects on channel 3 (fry) with the gain turned half way down on the amp and Ill tell you it is HUGE. If you turn the gain up any more than that you will get massive noise. It is about the right mixure of gain with the PQ-4 and MXR. Needless to say I wont be using just the amps distortion by itself anymore. The crunch with these settings is way bigger than the amp alone. I was always told you couldnt get a good sound out the PQ-4 and the X2, well they were wrong.

Also I tried putting these in fron of the amp and it was ok, seems to make a bigger difference in the loop. If you put em in front of the amp and want to switch to the clean channel its gonna be distorted, unless you have a footswitch for the pq-4.
Mess around with these settings and tell me what you think.

My dime tribute solo-All over tonight
by dead forever on Sat Aug 27, 2005 11:16 pm
I decided to record a dime solo as a tribute, and i wanted to be a bit different from most people, so i tried to work out all over tonight

its by no means perfect, and i only really spent 10 minutes working it out, but it sounds extremely similair and im quite pleased.

please cut me some slack, im only 15 and been playing for four years, also i used shitty windows sound recorder to record it, but youl get the general idea
thanks
lee

edit :- I listened to the first one and it sounded awfull lol, so i re recorded , this time its more fluent
so here it is, all over tonight, mark 2 :p

Dimebag's Tone
by Hrafn on Sun Aug 28, 2005 3:15 am
I managed to get something VERY close to Dime's tone when I got my effects Zoom 505 2 pedal today.
I simply plugged my guitar into the pedal and then the pedal to the amp.

Putting the distortion on DS then gain up to full (naturally Razz) I put the equalizer up at the very high end (44 out of 50 max) and the contour at full. Putting the noise gate up to full produced an awe inspiring silence when I wasn't playing (I've only played through my Marshall MG15DFX on Overdrive and that's noisy as hell, buzzing and hissing everywhere).

What I got when I put it all together simply amazed me, it was something so close to Dime's tone without a Dimebucker or BL that I was amazed. My friend who came over (a big Pantera fan too) agreed. The cool thing is, this beauty is fairly cheap (in the $60-$80 range).

I'll post a sample when I can record something and if I find a decent way of uploading it.
Oooooooooo Scary...
by Mingeeta on Sun Aug 28, 2005 9:23 am
I was looking at the posts wondering if any of them would have 333 replys or views. (Don't ask why) I firstly saw on the 'my new Dime tat...' thread, that it had 666views! But then that the washburn 333 topic had 333 views!

There was a topic about this before, thought I'd add my little part.

This is a poem written by Charlie Daniels to Ronnie Van Zant. The Lynyrd Skynyrd plane crash was on October 20 1977. It's also said that Charlie Daniels wrote this poem on the way to Ronnie Van Zant's funeral. Dimebag Diamond Darrell Lance Abbott R.I.P. keep rockin' in the next life. Say hello to Mr. Ronnie Van Zant, Mr. Steve Gaines, and Ms. Cassie Gaines for me. I dedicate Mr. Charlie Daniels Poem to you, Darrell. Happy Birthday \II/

"A brief candle; both ends burning
An endless mile; a bus wheel turning
A friend to share the lonesome times
A handshake and a sip of wine
So say it loud and let it ring
We are all a part of everything
The future, present and the past
Fly on proud bird
You're free at last". - Charlie Daniels
