Dime's Guitar in the Hard Rock Cafe/Tribute DVD Coming

DIMEBAG's Guitar Enshrined At San Antonio's Hard Rock Cafe - Sep. 1, 2005

Hector Saldaņa of the San Antonio Express-News has issued the following report:

For heavy metal fans, the violent death of PANTERA and DAMAGEPLAN guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott in Dec. 2004, ranks among rock's greatest communal losses: Buddy Holly, John Lennon and Kurt Cobain.

But if "Dimebag's" murder at a Columbus, Ohio concert marks the day the metal music died, his rowdy spirit lives on as was evident at Hard Rock Cafe on Wednesday (Aug. 31).

Abbott's live-in girlfriend, Rita Haney, and his brother and band mate, drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott, were on hand (photo) to unveil an electric guitar belonging to the murdered guitarist, among new memorabilia items installed at the restaurant.

About 150 fans clamored near the Hard Rock stage for the afternoon presentation to make a connection that even they couldn't always quite explain. "Dime," as he was known, was a different kind of rock god — accessible and down-to-earth.

"I had to be here," said Rocky Rios, 22. "He was so ... cool. At a thing like this, he'd just shake your hand."

Jessica Martin, 23, and Elliot Henry, 22, arrived together wearing PANTERA T-shirts. "I'm here pretty much in tribute to him, just to show respect," Martin said.

"He's just everything to me," said Henry, who plays guitar. "I've listened to him since I was 9. The reason I love music is because of him."

In the crowd, musician-artist Jered Keller, 22, held one of his framed drawings autographed by members of DAMAGEPLAN, including "Dimebag." Keller described the moment he showed him the drawing in spring 2004.

"Dimebag ... was all, 'Yeah, that's what I'm talking about!' He's the only one that made you feel like the fan was the real rock star," said Keller, drummer for a metal trio called the KGB.

Hard Rock waitress Shannon Swearingen, 23, even took the evening shift Wednesday so she "could be here for all this." And that was for a chance to hang out with metal legend Vinnie Paul Abbott. Cheers of "we love you, Vinnie" and "cowboys from hell" went up when he arrived.

"This ensures my brother's legacy lives forever," Abbott said, as the Washburn guitar was unveiled near the stage. "The man is shining on. The magic fingers have graced that guitar."

Haney said she was glad the guitar "ended up in such a cool place." She's helping produce a "Dimebag" Darrell tribute DVD due in Dec. 2005. "He was one of the most approachable people," Haney said. "It makes me feel good to feel the love."

Newly revamped DROWNING POOL performed later at the dedication event, which included the donation of several electric guitars to local music education programs such as Terry Lowry's nonprofit Network for Young Artists.

What was that custom guitar website?
by DimebagDemmel on Sun Sep 04, 2005 12:40 am
There was a link to a custom guitar website posted by someone in one of those Dean VS Washburn threads. Someone said this would be a good place to go for those wanting to post/view Washburn custom jobs. Not really interested in a custom washburn (have one dont want to change it), but now looking to pick up a Dean and a custom job is a possiblity. Figured the site would be worth looking at to see some nice custom jobs, any info would be helpful.

Jeepster... the artist pays tribute to the legend.
by Faust on Mon Sep 05, 2005 8:32 pm
I have to give mad props to mr. Jeepster. The Dime tribute lighning bolt guitar that he painted is truely amazing! I keep most of my guitars in their cases, but this one stays on display in my room... it gets played and not cleaned. Even people who have no idea who Dime was have seen this guitar and said "holy crap that's beautiful!... did you have that made custom?". Thanks again Jeepster for creating this masterpiece... and with the help of Mr. Seymour Duncan and the absence of a parasitic tone control... this guitar sounds incredible!

RIP Dime... I wish you could have seen this one...

Tribute to Dime
by DeanNewb83 on Fri Sep 09, 2005 4:28 pm
I was never really a huge Pantera fan till Dimes death believe it or not, i dont know what convinced me to start listening to the band but i just started downloading a bunch of their songs and now i have to say he has gotten me more hooked on guitar then ever imaginable. His creatism and origniality is just uncanning and stressed more to me that being original and thinking "outside the box" makes playing guitar that much more enjoyable and helps you grow and develops your own style of playing. It just sucks cause now im such a huge fan of his playing and now he's gone. I met a guy at Ozzyfest this year and he said he went to something like 25 Pantera shows and i never got to experience one....I wish i could've just seen him play one time and that in itself would of been enough to keep me playing until my fingers were worn off.

He has been a HUGE inspiration on my playing style and the direction of my creatism. I am willing and am trying to learn anything i can on my guitar. Even if it doesn't work i dont care as long as i took that step i will learn more and thats what Dime taught me and what he taught everyone else is to be your own guitarist not what everyone else is trying to be and its all thanks to Dimebag Darrell and his insane solos and bad ass metal riffs. You will be missed Dime.

Your newly aquired rockin fan,
Matt

by AmericanHvyMetal on Sat Sep 17, 2005 6:51 am
Everyone knows that Dean has been seen on these forums from time to time, and everyone who is a Dimebag fan would love to see a Dean Dime with a Confederate theme paint job.

Dime would have probably wanted on sooner or later for production as per what his notes say..

Here is my suggestion of Specs to whoever can help....or has a suggestion with gettin in contact with Dean...

Dean ML with Confederate Finish
Floyd Rose Tremelo
Dimebucker Treble pickup
Mahogany Body and Neck
Rosewood Fretboard
Dime Traction Knobs
Dot Inlays with an X inlay on the 12th

Produced in LEFT & RIGHT HANDED models.

I figure it for a 1200 - 1400 MSRP.

Please sign if you would like to see this happen.

Sorry I missed ya Bro...
by Dedmanchan on Wed Sep 21, 2005 7:13 pm
I'm sorry I missed ya Dime, both in life and your last b-day...s#%t happens, but I'm catchin up now....There's so much to say, so little time to do it. I never knew ya in person, but your spirit is so strong that it touched me nonetheless. You inspired me, you're why I picked up my first axe and why I'm still grindin' away. For a man I never met, I've found myself in tears so many times, as if we were friends or someshit like that. It's a loss that I will forever feel. Happy belated, where ever you may be...I got a little tribute of my own, dont have the chance every week, but I'll be damned if I dont try to keep it alive...every wednesday I knock back a blacktooth for ya, me and my brother.

I found this online, wasnt written by me, but I managed to get permission from the author to use it in print, when I get the grip I'll have some shirts made up.

"I read the news last night just before bed
A horrible tragedy, Dimebag is dead
The metal world in mourning, a hero fell
Rest In Peace to a cowboy from hell

You helped us through the 90's when metal seemed dead
You stayed true to the cause, there was a hunger you fed
Your spirit will be carried through memories and song
In the heart of heavy metal Dimebag will live on

Like Randy and Jimi your death came to soon
No one was ready for you to pass from this world
So take your place amongst the greats
Unlock the door, and pass the cemetary gates"
-Derick A.

Rest in peace bro

I know it's not a "Dean", but I am just so freakin phsyched on it, I have to share this bit of info. In the mail yesterday, I recieved my US Custom Shop Washboard D3. Normally, I wouldn't brag about this in another brands forum, but since I am still awaiting my limited Run ML Confed. from FunkyMunky, I felt like sharing the sickness I didn't have to wait for. Pics will come, but I felt it necassary to wait untill I got my Confed Dean, that way I can have the Dean up front, with my 333bolt and D3 DimeSlime in the Back-ground. Damn proud to own a piece of Dime's past, (even though he didn't actually own it, or sign it) and looking forward to seeing my Confed and posting it's pics. If I could've afforded it, I would have spent the extra 15 hundred and baught the DFH, but my custom shop is still sick, none-the-less. Dean Rules... and I DO wish it were'nt a washboard, but a Dean. Oh yeah, and my Dime-cut-out is sick, and same with the Stage shirts I baught.

I wish I couldve been right there with em, and even though I know it would never happen, it doesnt matter, cause I'll never get to meet dime, and Ill never get to see that intensity live. its been almost a year and It still hits me hard every now and then "DAMN, HE'SFUCKIN DEAD". and when I think about my anguish for the death, and how I NEVER EVEN MET HIM, I think about how hard it is for vinny and the rest of the family. With no footswitch plugged in, the lead channel(red) gain and master volume all of the way off, should the clean(green) channel with the gain at 10 have the same amount of volume as the lead channel? My lead channel is loud as hell, but if I turn it all the way down and turn the clean all the way up, it sounds like a 20 watt amp. Can anyone help? Is it just this way because I don't have the footswitch, or should it have equal volume? Thanks Smile

My tribute to Dimebag! Almost Done!!!!! Pics inside!!!
by DiezelMonster on Tue Sep 27, 2005 4:21 am
Hey guys

I bought a USA Dime 3 Stealth and was not sure I liked the black and silver paint job it had, so I thought hard and gatherd pics of guitars I saw and had loved, but I wanted the guitar to have some framiliar things on teh guitar so it could continue on where the DFH left off.

Anyhow I searched for about a month to find a good artist, and I found a bunch that wanted to do it, and some that thought they "could" do it, and some wanted 2K$ and 2 years of my life waiting, so then I stumbled on a local guy who was about 2 seconds from my work and Godamn it all fell into place!

here are the pics:

The front of the guitar has similar bolts as the original DFH
and the back of the guitar was creative license, I'm not sure if I should have anything else on the guitar as it might make it look cheesy, but I was going to have maybe a ghost CFH put on the back?

anyhow, Tonight when Jim sent me the pictures I wept like a baby, because to me, this brings back Dec 8th like it was yesterday, I've said it before and will say it until I die, Dime is why I play and why I breath, and why I Live METAL and guitar, this is dedicated to him and his passion, he has passed on his passion to me and to the rest of us!

I hope you guys appreciate this as I do! it will be finished and setup this week and it will be frippin PERFECT!

Cheers guys!

RIP Brother Dime!!!!
101 proof
by slaytanic on Tue Sep 27, 2005 7:33 pm
I just listened to 100 proof for the first time since Dimes passing and it makes me think of what a loss we actually have. I saw Pantera 5 times and knowing that Ill never get to see them again sucks. Never saw Damageplan, wish I would have went to that show I missed. Listening to 101 proof really makes me realize how great he was live and Im gonna miss that. I wish I could get more live recordings of Pantera or Damageplan whether it be audio or video, video preferrably. I know some people here have videos of them, maybe we could work out a deal on burning them onto a dvd or something.

And A special Tribute design on there as well. It's Autographed on the Back, Got to party with Dime on several occasions. Also Thinking about having his sig inlaid on the fretboard but havent made up my mind on that yet.....let me know what you think.

pq-4-Rg100es settings suggestions
by marker on Sat Oct 01, 2005 2:01 am
What's up guy's? I'm pumped up to the max. Within the last three or four weeks, I have gotten a rocktron hush IIB gate, a Furman PQ-4(75 bucks!!!) and now I just scored another Randall Rg100es head. Also waiting for the eq pedal to come in the mail. I know this probably has been asked a bunch of times, but can anyone suggest how to link the furman in the singal chain(FXloop) or straight into the amp. Channel one, or Channel two or both. Played around with the furman for a while, but you must have gotta have the 6 band for the kill sound? Any advise would be greatly appreciated and if I figure anything out, I will let you guys know. Smile
