Pics of the rig tomorrow...
Just a Quick Dime question..
i was wondering if dime "only" used USA models, anyone have a clue? and, is the DFH a 79' ML? and i was wondering if anyone knew any specs off of dimes sunburst ML?
New DFHs compared to THE DFH
What are the differences between the two guitars?
I know that the pickups will probably be different, but errrm I have no idea what they were
today i finally got my furman pq 3 the black one..now i have blua l500xl blue mxr six band digitech whammy crybaby rocktron silencer randall warhead furman pq 3 and the doubler is built into the head and it sounds great....
Thought some of y'all would find this interesting...
by xero_uk on Thu Jan 04, 2007 9:22 pm
I was just searching the 'bay for a L500XL and found this...
In a Guitar World interview, Dimebag said, "The first thing I do with any guitar I find is to Floyd Rose it immediately and then I install a Bill Lawrence L-500-L pickup. In many ways, the Bill Lawrence is really the key to my sound; it's a killer pickup . On the reble strings, it's a real bitch—sounds almost like you're running a Cry Baby with the pedal pushed down a bit. It gives you that clear harmonic tone—you get alittle bit of pick squeal every time you hit a not up there. And, of course, it's real thick and chunky on the low strings.
Anyhow, after I get the Lawrence in, I flip it upside down, so that the hot pole, instead of being in the treble position, is in the front rather than near the bridge. It's toally thick and chunky. It sounds good the other way too, buit 's a little too squirmy for me. Lately, I've been usinga Lawrence L-500-XL, which is an even hotter pickup."* The XL-500 is a fully shielded, high output blade humbucker with 4-conductor wiring for multiple for split/series/parallel/out of phase wiring combinations. All Bill Lawrence pickups are made in the USA.
Maybe this will clear up some of the BLUSA/B&B confusion.

Book About The Alrosa Villa Murders...
MJS Music Publications has set a February 2007 publication date for "A Vulgar Display Of Power: Courage And Carnage At The Alrosa Villa" (cover), a new book by author Chris A. The official book description follows:
On December 8th, 1980, a lone gunman took the life of John Lennon, one of rock 'n' roll's most iconic personalities. Almost to the minute, 24 years later, heavy metal's most beloved guitarist, Dimebag Darrell Abbott, was tragically murdered while performing at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus Ohio. It was a night filled with tragedy yet offset by exceptional heroism. Jeffrey "Mayhem" Thompson, Erin Halk and Nathan Bray each lost their lives while trying to aid Dimebag and protect the lives of hundreds of people from an armed killing machine. "A Vulgar Display of Power" tells the true story of the events leading up to the tragic murders. It peers into the twisted mind and background of a killer intoxicated by psychotic rage and driven by the voice of the beast inside his head. "A Vulgar Display of Power" attempts to make sense of what appears to be a senseless act. Unlike books that only focus on the evil of the killer or the fruits of the crime, "A Vulgar Display of Power" also extols the inspirational selflessness of those who died trying to help others. Within its pages, readers will meet and experience the lives of Erin Halk, Jeff Thompson, and Nathan Bray. In addition, the book contains a moving tribute to Dimebag Darrell Abbott with contributions from fans, rock stars and friends. Supported by approximately 200 never-before-published personal photographs, and augmented by actual crime scene photos, the lives of those lost and the events of the sad evening of December 8th, 2004 will clearly come into focus. "A Vulgar Display of Power" dispels the myths and presents the complex facts behind the horrific murders at the Alrosa Villa. As tragic as the event was, readers will be left in awe by the courage and compassion demonstrated by so many people.
The actions of the Columbus Police Department, various fire department and rescue squads, plus many of the Alrosa's staff and patron's reflect the selfless courage of humanity even at times of great distress. Written with a focus on taste, class and dignity, readers are sure to close the last page of this masterpiece with seemingly rival emotions of sadness and pride. What is certain is that anyone who reads "A Vulgar Display of Power" will never forget Dimebag Darrell Abbott nor the incredible sacrifices of Nathan Bray, Erin Halk or Jeff Thompson.

AMPS???GEAR???and problems???
for the longest time I've been looking for what I could consider to be my sound. I used marshalls for awhile but never got enough power. I finally got my hands onto a Krank Krankenstein thinking I would find the close to Dime tone I'd been looking for, for years. Sadly I feel that they falsely advertise a bit. It doesen't sound like Pantera. If anything it has a weak similarity to Damageplan sound. When I hook my racks (Furman PQ3, Roctron Guitar Silencer, it doesen't work on anything other than low volumes due to it having a Global Master Volume along with 2 other volume controls, and when it is kranked up it sounds terrible. It's loaded with enough bass that it might as well be considered the bass portion of a band. But anyway, I figured I'd try looking into a Krank Revolution instaead so I wouldn't have the issues of the Global Master Volume.
I just want to plug in, have my racks work and have the sound not get nasty and crappy when it gets loud...anyone have any ideas????or has anyone played a revolution????I need some serious help here
The Vintage blue MXR 6 band review
Well, I finally got my hands on this piece of vintage
gear. First off, it's probably the most easiest frippin
pedal to use. You really just need to plug it in and set
the bands to your liking. That's frippin it!
As far as tone, well it's got frippin tone! My rig
sounds more like Dime than before. I had used
the reissue black 10 band pedal for like a year.
That pedal rules in it's own right, but for TONE
it's in the vintage blue one. Hands down, great
tone and even more crunch than what I had before.
You wouldn't think so out a little 6 band pedal.
The only thing I don't like is that it's on all the
time. NO bypass switch, no power adapter.
I know I can mod this thing for both issues,
but this thing is original vintage s#%t. I think
I will just get the power adapter converter
plug for it.
Vintage and Newer Randall's! HELP!
by Culprit on Tue Jan 09, 2007 1:34 pm
G'dayy! New around here
So my question is: Does anyone have an older randall (like the rg100ES or the Century 200) and a newer Randall? is it true the vintage ones is way better?
So if anyone could make a comparison it would be really cool
thanks

The ML vs 'the Culprit'!!
by Culprit on Fri Jan 12, 2007 7:32 pm
I have a quetion about the feel and tone of, for example, the import 79 ml.
How's the feel compared to a washburn?
I have a Washy Culprit (which i wont EVER sell!!) EVER!!!
I love the damn thing in every way, but I've always loved the original ml shape aswell.
So have anyone tried both guitars? Are they similay in feel and tone?
Another thing I'm wondering about is the balance of a ML hanging from a strap. Is it good, or does the guitar tilt?
That's all I think:D
for now...
Home Made Guitar Finished!!
by Culprit on Fri Jan 12, 2007 9:08 pm
Finally! It took me about a year to build it, but it was well worth it.
It's a slightly modified Jackson Kelly design, and it's only clearcoated over, so you see the beautiful mahagany underneath!
When I started building it, I really didn't expect it to have a very good feel to it, since I were making the neck, trussrod and everything from scratch, but it turned out great!
And the best thing about it is that it screams like hell!!
Really brutal tone to it
I'll post some picks once as soon as i can

Have something signed by Dime or cool memorabilia, let's see
We have a thread like this in our Dime tribute section at www.zakkwylde.com (yes I'm an admin there), so I figured I would start one here, knowing there's tons of Dime fans, so......
For the sake of keeping his spirit alive, if you have some cool Dime merchandise or some cool autographed items, post'em up, let us see them !! I know there;s got to be some cool stuff in your personal collections out there !
I'll get it started with a couple things.
As a photographer- for those of you with autographed items, that you place in a frame, I can not stress enough how important it is to make sure they are matted, so the signatures don't touch the glass, and I use UV protective glass for everything, to keep them well preserved.
Framed and matted photo I took of Dime signed " Chad- Your s#%t makes GODZ ! DIMEBAG
Taken down the street from Dime's house October 23, 2004. In case you can't read the writing it says " Chad Lee - Them blood red skies don't lie DIMEBAG on your side"
This was taken the same day, later in the evening in Dime's driveway. It's just under 5' wide and 3' tall.
Ever meet Dime ? Share your photos here !
Another thread we have over at Zakk;s board in our Dime tribute section. Thought it may be cool here....
There's got to be plenty of you outthere had the opportunity to meet Dime at some point. If so, and you have a photo, share them here !
I'll get it started with a couple.
One of my personal favorites of all, us having a good ole' time together at the Clubhouse after a show.
On stage doing WALK
I'll also go ahead and post one up for Mr. Dean Z. as well.
DIMEVISION PT.2 Due this Summer...
DIMEBAG: Follow-Up To 'DimeVision' DVD Due In The Summer - Jan. 14, 2007
According to Revolver magazine (web site), late PANTERA/DAMAGEPLAN guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott's longtime partner, Rita Haney, and videographer Bobby Tongs have started to sift through footage for the follow-up to the DVD "DimeVision - Vol 1: That's The Fun I Have". The disc should be ready for release in the summer. "I can't wait to see it," Dimebag's brother and former PANTERA/DAMAGEPLAN bandmate Vinnie Paul Abbott says. "I'm sure it'll include stuff that I didn't even know about. Like, I knew Dime did a lot of crazy, @#%$@!!&-up s#%t, but I didn't know about the fireworks he lit in the house until I saw the first videos. I don't know how he didn't burn his house down."
A cornucopia of a small portion of miles of video footage shot over the years, mostly taken mostly from Dimebag's point of view, "DimeVision - Vol 1: That's The Fun I Have" has been certified gold by the RIAA in the United States as well as in Canada.
Dimebag's legacy lives on through hundreds of musical tributes from the top names in rock, including close friends Zakk Wylde and NICKELBACK, a custom Dean ML Razorback V guitar, an MXR/Dunlop Dime Distortion Pedal and Crybaby From Hell Wah, as well as a CD and DVD debut from Vinnie Paul's Big Vin Records.
The CD, "Rebel Meets Rebel", was recorded throughout the years prior to Dimebag's passing with the original "Cowboys from Hell" lineup (Dimebag, Vinnie and PANTERA bassist Rex Brown) and country legend David Allan Coe.
PANTERA's "Three Vulgar Videos from Hell" three-DVD set featuring all the band's videos as well as live footage shot during the Monsters of Rock gig in Moscow, was certified platinum on May 4, 2006 for U.S. shipments of 100,000 units.
Originally released on DVD in 1999, "Three Vulgar Videos from Hell" was reissued last year through Rhino Video, featuring the same content with improved menus and all-new Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. In fact, it is the first PANTERA release ever in 5.1 Surround Sound. It features: "Cowboys From Hell: The Videos", "Vulgar Video", "3 Watch It Go", and "Pantera Live From Monsters of Rock In Moscow".
Just got a vht deliverance head a couple days ago
And it really dont sound better than what I already have except the clean is much better, now Im not only trying to get dime tones or metal but when I am just doing metal its does sound better in some ways but not in others.Overall though I think Ill stick with my warhead full stack, furman pq4 in the loop and ge7 eq in front.Maybe I havent tweaked the vht enough but so far thats how I feel!
Dime's string set up
by Goc on Mon Jan 15, 2007 8:04 pm
Despite the risk of being pointed out as i Dime sheep, i'd like to ask you how do you think Dime put his strings on guitar? What i mean is, were they high from fretboard or pretty low, almost touching the fretboard?
Which one is better in your opinion for legato playing?
Metal Giant indeed!! But how tall was Dime?
by Culprit on Mon Jan 15, 2007 10:59 pm
I know, it's a quite stupid question, but i really want to know.
In most pics Dime looks like a frackin' giant!
How tall was he? Anybody knows?
In Centimeters if you could find out
"Palm"
Does anyone have a Randall jaguar 412JB cabinet (with 80 watt jaguars) not the crappy 50's??? I really want to find one.

Just had the Damageplan album release show on, they usually air it again at 11:00.
For those of you guys who watched the webcast, Elliot showed both the Dean from Hell and the Dime-o-Flame guitars at the Dean headquarters.
I guess this is the final resting place for these instruments of heavy metal. I personaly want to hit up the Tampa on my way down to Texas just to see that!

THIS LOVE TRIBUTE ML PROTO
Well dudes, a BIG what's shakin' from here in Texas! Here's the RBMLF666/TLTML/79MLF/...whatever ya wanna call it, I call her "This Love" Tribute ML Prototype. I changed the pups to a Dean 79 zebra PAF (THANX EMUNDER!!!), and a BLUSA and they rock. The BLUSA ring was wayyy too tall, so I used a spare Dimebucker ring and WHAMO! Notice the factory markings in the pup routes, the neck says, "T?" and the bridge says, "NEW ML????? SAMPLE." This to me proves this sombitch's "Prototype Status." To me it looks as close as Dime's (including the one of a kind WHITE LOGO) except for the reverse zebra pup, but I hate that look anyway, and the 24 frets. She plays like a dream, and the C neck feels way thinner than I remember on my other 79 C necks I had not too long ago. The Red in dead on with the Pantera Video. BIG THANX TO STEVEO@ BRG, 13thFLOOR for the wiring schematics/pics, and EMUNDER for the free zebra pup!!! You guys ROCK, I love DEANS and this forum! Well, for those that missed it, the stock before porn, and now the after porn ...

anyone wanna buy a randall warhead the one i used in the clips ive posted up shoot me some offers.

What wah did Dime use for those distorted wah parts in songs? I'm not talkin' about his CFH wah, or the Vox, or the Dunlop rack wahs that make traditional wah noises, I mean for Psycho Holiday chorus, and other stuff. It sounds like a fuzz or distortion along with an octave pedal with the wah and he mostly uses it while riffin' parts.
hey guys!
first post on the darn thingymibob
so i shalll start off by saying - how be thee all on thios fine day/night depending on where u live also - in my ML theres some foam in the floyd cavity , i didnt wanan take it out in case theres like a trick spring or something under it which will shoot into my eye
anyone know what it does/ if its removable?

Nick Menza's new band Orphaned To Hatred
Not really "new", about 1 year old, but it's new to me.
They sound just like Pantera and that's what they
want to sound like. Sounds pretty good to me.
The vocals very close to Phil's, and the guitar
sounds like Dino {formerly} of Fear Factory blended
with Dime.
