Dimes solo's
by '87 sherwood on Fri Mar 02, 2007 8:56 pm
I've been watching Goc's videos and other's on youtube playing Dimes solo's and I was wondering what I can do to improve my accuracy and help myself play these solo's. For example I got the solo to Revolution down after 4 hours and I'm approching 1 hour on the CFH solo. I can do the stretch from hell but I can't play it as fast as Dime. I usually play GnR solos and the bluesy medium paced kind. I really admire Dimes playing and would love nothing more than to be able to play his solos. I was learning Cemetary gates yesterday and never had a problem until I got up to the ripping part in the solo again. I'm kind of frusterated right now but I'm still trying.
Thanks Canadian_F_H!!!!!
by NAKEDTBONEDTRUCKER on Sat Mar 03, 2007 10:53 pm
Thanks for the info on the woobly trem issue. I finally
decided to get one of those locking tremolos from
Stew-Mac.

I heated up the arm so I can bend it about 45* the
opposite direction to make it "lefty".

Since it had to be heated up, it left heat marks on it.
I decided to sand the arm and I like the way it looks.
It's not chrome but more like a brushed aluminum
look.

fyi: Good prices on Randall
by '87 sherwood on Wed Mar 07, 2007 2:45 pm
I know people in this area of the forum like Randall so I thought I'd take it upon myself to fill everyone in. While shopping for a 412 speaker cabinet I found a store that beat everybodies prices. Even after the shipping it was worth it. I live near Ottawa and it wasen't worth driving the hour and a half to pick it up in person. Of course this applies to Canadian members but who knows it might be worth it for our friendly neighbours as well. PM for particulars.

WALK!

Fitted a SD '59 in the neck of my Razorback yesterday and, after restringing and tuning up again, what better way to test it all out than with Walk? Wink

Using the Dimebucker for the verses and choruses, and the '59 for the solo. Played it in drop D rather than standard D because...well, the RB is floyded, innit? Don't want to have to set it all up for one song. Rolling Eyes Laughing

Also decided to go for the 101 Live-style outro. Much less boring to play. WinkLaughing

Vid. goes a little out of synch around the end of the solo, dunno why. Confused

I have a Randall Warhead & Cylcone incoming, settings pl
by BOOGIE444 on Tue Mar 13, 2007 3:24 pm
I am new to this forum so let me start out by saying hello Very Happy

I have been on a big solid state kick lately and I have sold all my tube amps for a bunch of solid state amps. Anyway I have a randall cyclone and a orginal warhead without the pull out gain boost coming from ebay that I won last week. I was wondering if anyone has any suggested settings for getting some heavy dime like tones.

I will be using it with two recto 4 x 12 cabs, various gibson guitars, I also have a couple of peavy 31 band eq's and one tubescreamer pedal for a booster.

I have heard that these are both very difficult amps to dial in at first, I just thought I would see if anyone has some insight that they would like to share.

I am curious how these measure up to my two ampeg VH140-C's, randall RG-80es, and my RM-100 that is for sale. Right now the VH140-C is the closet I have ever gotten to dime's tone with any amp I have ever owned, actually its really close with just a 31 band eq in the loop. I hope these newer randall's kick some butt as well, as I am really looking forward to doing some recording with these.

Thanks in advance for any settings help or any insight on what to expect on these amps.

I also have a Peavey cab that is rated a 16ohm mono - 8ohm stereo. Will that head work on that cab and how can I make it a 8ohm mono. by PsychoholicSlag on Thu Mar 15, 2007 8:35 pm
I love my Dean, I mean I looooove my Dean, It's loaded with EMG 81/85, but I also have a schecter classic with a JB/Jazz combination. When I play the schecter it has amazing high end cut your throat, balls to the muthafu*#'n walls tone, but when I plug the Dean in it sounds hollow, lacking the highs. Is that the nature of the pickups? Or do I have a wiring problem? On clean it sounds good but on the gain channel it's missing that ...... chainsaw tone if ya know what I mean. It has a new battery. I'm asking yall cause this is the only forum I trust.

By Demons Be Driven clips... ( VH140-C, Warhead, Rg-80es )
by BOOGIE444 on Mon Mar 19, 2007 1:17 pm
I did five clips over the weekend of By Demons Be Driven ( my way ) with my newly acquirred warhead, and my old VH140-C and RG-80es. Some clips even mix two amps together.

All clips are single tracked w/ two mics in stereo, all clips are with my gibson explorer with stock pickups and oversized recto 4 x 12 cab. The one VH140-C clip with EMG-81 in its title is with my vintage mahganoy LP studio w/ zakk wylde pu's, the rest are all gibson explorer & 500T pu.

Anyway, I didnt always play my best cause I was in a hurry, plus I suck anyways. But its fun sometimes just to hear some different tones.

Anyways I would appreciate anyone who takes a listen and give me some feedback on whether it sucks or not, or whats good, and what needs to be added / improved.

Its almost exactly the same as my orginal warhead. I mean like 99% the same sound. The only differences I could get out of it after playing it for only 20 minutes on lunch break were....

1. Cylone has a little more gain, it will do metal without a boost, where as the warhead needs a boost. The later warhead versions have a pull out gain boost so I assume it then gets to cyclone levels. Not really a big difference in gain between the two, the cyclone still sounds much better with a boost if you ask me.

2. Cyclone is not as muddy as the warhead. The main reason the warhead needs a boost because it is muddy without it. The cyclone isnt muddy without a boost unless you go crazy with the bass. Again adding a boost makes more if not all the bass useable without being muddy.

3. The voicing is a TINY bit different. The warhead has a touch of that dimebag twang you can dial in if you want, where as the cyclone doesnt quite have that as much. They still sound like 99% the same though.

4. The mids seem to be a TAD smoother on the cyclone, again I think that has to do with the warhead having a slightly different preamp to sound more like Dime.

I think I am going to run a bad monkey with the cyclone for a boost for some variation in tone, as I use a tubescreamer with the warhead. But I know I will be using the cyclone without a boost sometimes too, thats when the cyclone starts to sound more different than the warhead is when you dont use a boost. When I was using both amps with my tubescreamer it would be very hard if not impossible to distinguish one from the other.

Overall I havent really got into this amp much because I havent really played much at all, but its defiantly a keeper because I snagged it for dirt cheap. Plus it will be very cool for recording with the warhead in stereo because they both have essentually the same sound. I could do mids up with one and mids scooped a little with the other for a cool stero sound.

Another thumbs up Very Happy

More pantera clips to come, I cant wait for the weekend......
Randall Rg100es drop in mods available now
by marker on Wed Mar 21, 2007 7:45 pm
hey dudes, just wanted to let you know that I just completed the first run of the diode modification(CFHmod). These are drop in chips that come with full instruction on how to mod your RG. Also available are basic footswitches that have one switch for changing channels. I did away with the "both channels on" feature. These are killer and are $40 apiece. This footswith will make the Led's on your amp work and switch between the two channels. The drop in diode mods are $25. If you are interested, give me a pm and let me know. Thanks dudes! Very Happy
DFH Pickup Installment
by Razormouth on Thu Mar 22, 2007 12:19 pm
This is probably a stupid question, but Does anyone know how the 500XL in the Dean From Hell is installed?

I know Dime flipped his with the hot blade toward the neck, but I don't know if they do that in the production model and I really want that crunch tone you get when you flip it.

Anyone know?

There is a resistor insisde these amps that goes from the speaker out jack to the reverb tank. it;s like 18 ohm 10% something. I checked radio shack for a replacement, but they have none. Can anyone point me to a new one of these?
USA SOUTHERN CROSS.....(NDC)

I know its not cheap, but it is one from the original run of what was supposed to be limited to 100. A bit out of my range for sure. Still less than BSG was selling them for.

Help Needed With Randall RG100ES
by designatedmedia on Sun Mar 25, 2007 5:18 pm
I am having some issues, and I am wondering if any of you can help.

My RG has been acting weird latley. Sometimes i get muffled tone when i turn it on.
If i bang on it, it resumes back to normal most of the time. if i tap on the transistor
pots on the back of the amp, it gets better. Do you guys think the transistors or caps
might be going bad? the caps aren't leaking at all.

Does anyone happen to have a schematic, or part #'s to the transistors and caps so i can
get some replacements?

Also, I am looking for the manual online and no one seems to have it. Can anyone hook me up with a PDF file?

Thanks!

*RE-POSTED* Pantera Live At Donnington 1994 (MP3s)
by blade.1966 on Mon Mar 26, 2007 12:54 am
I found the live set of Pantera at Donnington (Monsters Of Rock Festival) 1994.

My girlfriend recorded it for me off the Radio at the time (as I was there!).

I found it on an old cassette tape and cleaned it up a little!

Ampeg VH140-C Garage days clips......
by BOOGIE444 on Mon Mar 26, 2007 6:09 pm
The first clip the playing wasnt too bad, for me anyways. I had the ampeg's mid knob at noon, see link for more gear details.
LINK....
http://www.netmusicians.org/files/30-The%20Wait%20VH140-C%201.MP3

The next two clips the playing wasnt very good, I was playing over a guitar pro file and when the solo came on it was so loud I couldnt hear the rythem guitar or the bass anymore so I totally got lost on where I was in a few parts. Oh well next time I will tweak the guitar pro file so the solo aint so loud and I will do a much better job.

Anyway the ampeg's mids were maxed on these two clips. They are both the same except one has the backing track mixed louder than the other, let me know which sounds like it has a better mix going on. Because I am not that good at mixing things down and stuff.

? RG80ES Line Out ?
by peppered on Mon Mar 26, 2007 6:31 pm
I just bought an old RG80ES 1/4 stack and was wondering (since there isn't a manual) if I could use the line out signal into a POD for cabinet emulation. I'm guessing that I can also disconnect the cab since the head is SS.

I do a lot of home recording, and there is no way I can crank the amp up to mic it.

Any previous experience/feedback is appreciated.

Dimebag's Hat
by Maddox on Tue Mar 27, 2007 7:50 am
Hey fellas I've been looking around (with no success) for somewhere to buy the hat that dimebag wore. Not the trucky one, but the one that was like a cowboy one with the horns on it? I think he wore it at the reinventing the steel concerts

Anyway can someone link me to where I could buy one?

Cheers

I still have't made up my mind on this because I haven't heard it.

I need some sound clips of someone playing with it and then without so I can tell the difference of boost.

Which sounds better and whats the difference other than the appearence?
might have a problem with my Rg100es
by thenumber3 on Wed Mar 28, 2007 2:17 am
maybe its just me. but i dont use the treble pull switch on my amp. and i'll have my boost stuff going on and go to turn the volume up on the amp and it sounds kinda like it loses a hair of volume and also kinda sounds like the treble switch is pulled. BUT it sounds almost like the great southern trendkill. maybe it's just me. i hope oh yeah i dont know if this would have anything to do with it but i really havent even got to turn the amp up past 2, and it seems to make the "change" after the amp hits 3? hmm hell i dont know what to do keep jamming on it and see if it keeps doing it or should i take it to a repair man?

Anyone here have High quality Dimebag pictures?

High quality = Large Size, clear image, very usable for many types of graphics arts. Smile

I'm asking this because I'm making some Dime Signatures and I can only find small, and low resolution images. Sad

I had to write a poem for school, so I wrote one about Dime.
by Nickelbag Noah on Thu Mar 29, 2007 3:30 am
Its a Sonnet poem and here it is-

“Dimebag” Darrell (R.I.P.)

You are gone and what can we do?
We are sitting here missing you.
You did no wrong,
All you did was make the best song.
You played like no other,
And your brother was your drummer.
You played a fret frenzy,
Nathan (The Killer) was just plain crazy.
We can’t believe you are gone,
You were a Heavy Metal Icon.
We want to be like you,
We can’t believe your life is through.
Thinking of that night makes me want gag,
Rest in Piece “Dimebag.”

new randalls VS. old randalls?
by thenumber3 on Sat Mar 31, 2007 4:08 pm
so what would be better rg100es vs. V2, or century 200 vs. T2

so which one.

ive got 2 rg's and am still not satisified with the sound. too muddy. lacks the razor sharp edge. and lacking " something"

so im thinking of trying the new T2
how does the new T2 take to outboard EQ's?
by thenumber3 on Sat Mar 31, 2007 4:10 pm
does anybody have any info? do they get muddy like the RG's or do they take well to EQ's like the Century 200's? info info
They knew how to start a show....
by jamyz on Sat Mar 31, 2007 6:25 pm
I sadly never did see neither Pantera or Damageplan. I guess most of you have already seen this, but I just felt really happy seeing this. It's Pantera in Chile 98 and they play Walk as the opener. They just walk on stage, saying hello like they knew each person in the crowd. And the crowd is amazing!! Really, really cool.
