500k or 250 k?????
by Blacktooth Sin on Sun Apr 01, 2007 6:36 pm
Ok ,So I have heard that dime used 250 k pots in his guitars which made no sence to me because it would just cut some of the output. Can anyone with a dime guitar tell if its a 500 or 250.Im pretty sure the deans use a 500k pot.Anyway here is the thing i broke a string on my les paul to lazy to fix it i pick up my dad's 69 fender tele and hook it up to my dime rig at full stage volume and it cut perfectly enough for me to get up and stop and post this.I cant imagine how it would sound threw my les paul with l 500xl and a 250 k pot i have a 500k in it now.Just an idea ,let me know what you think. My tech said a 250 k would just cut the output but i may try it out anyway

Anyone else have one ?I can get some cool flanger doubler settings out of it.I read somewhere that the doubler goes from 17 ms to 70 so i keep it in that range sounds pretty good for a digital unit pretty warm .
What tuning did Dime use most?

Dime Playing A Jackson Randy Rhoads "RR-5"
by satch0922 on Wed Apr 04, 2007 1:15 am
Have not seen this picture before. Apparently the guitar and rig belonged to the band playing a JGilligans that night. Cool to see Dime playing a Rhoads guitar though as Randy was a huge influence.

new jaguar speakers Vs. old jaguars speakers
by thenumber3 on Thu Apr 05, 2007 3:13 pm

Have y'all seen Dream Theater covering Cemetary Gates?
by flah on Thu Apr 05, 2007 5:26 pm
(with advanced apologies if this has already been posted)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFTZuB1DQQo&mode=related&search=

My comments: at first I was cringing at the thought of James LaBrie singing the bad*ss parts, fortunately the singers from SymphonyX and Fear Factory came out to save him. Petrucci is technically a good player but I don't get the intensity coming from him like I do with Dime. Maybe it's because Dream Theater is the visual equivalent of watching an orchestal concert. There might be a lot going on musically, but you might as well be watching a still picture. Mustaine comes out and does the main part of Dime's solo. I personally think that Mustaine doesn't have a lot to offer as a lead guitarist. All in all, playing Cemetary Gates in Texas is a nice gesture, but ultimately it falls flat.

If you want to see a cover with an intense lead guitar, check out Paul Gilbert playing "While My Guitar Gently Weeps"

black mxr 6 band vs blue
by Serbusfish on Fri Apr 06, 2007 4:42 pm
how much different is the black mxr 6 band compared to the vintage blue version? I had the blue version but it was way too noisy, and I cant afford a 10 band so im thinking about getting a black 6 band, are they good eq's?
god really starting to give up.
by thenumber3 on Sat Apr 07, 2007 2:39 am
man i dont know what the hell is going on but it seems like both my randall rg100es's dont want to sound consistent. the other night i happened to turn the volume up a hair and the volume dropped just a little and it sounded more distorted like CFH and trendkill. and i was amazed at the sound that was coming out. and now it's back to it's muddy crap again. so im about to give up on these old randall heads and check out the new ones. i might even list them on ebay when i pay my fee's.
do randall's get more distorted when turned up.
by thenumber3 on Sat Apr 07, 2007 3:07 am
as with my other bitch fit thread. i just remembered i read somewhere that the RG's sound like a marshall and i remember one time i tried a marshall JCM 800 or whatever you call it. and the dealer dude said that those amps get more distorted when turned up. and my randall's do that off and on again i think. just wanting to know if this could be the case. goddamnit.
can i spray contact cleaner into the inputs of my Furman PQ?
by thenumber3 on Sat Apr 07, 2007 6:58 pm
i figured since im cleaning my amps. i was curious if i could spray cleaner into my inputs on my PQ3 and my MXR and my flanger/doubler without hurting anything? figured they need to be cleaned too.

so will adding more heads thicken up the tone?
by thenumber3 on Mon Apr 09, 2007 3:33 am
2 rg's. dont have a splitter yet. so im only using one head at the time. and if lets say if i had 6 rg's would it thicken up the overall tone? like on official 101 live? info info
tuning question
by Jalapeno on Mon Apr 09, 2007 5:22 am
ok I'm aware that Dime always played several cents down....40 right?

anyways...... Becoming and Thoes of Rejection......I'm trying to find the exact tuning for that. I'm playing in a full step down 40 cents down and they still kinda sound off....especially throes.....perheps I don't have an acurate tab.....but it's the only one on Ultimate guitar and it claims it's from a book......

so with that said.....anyone know?
how in the hell can you slave heads into each other?
by thenumber3 on Mon Apr 09, 2007 5:46 pm
wouldn't you need a splitter? and how in the %$#@! can you do this? im frippin retarded and dont get it.

so i've heard the he used RG100HT's but compared to the trendkill tone it's much thicker and i little more scooped sounding. its probably my favorite tone. so does anybody know if the thickness could come from him using more than 1 head or what? anybody know anything about that tone?

just about sick of my amp, advice please?
by Serbusfish on Tue Apr 10, 2007 5:46 pm
ok, ive just about had it with my warhead, if the mxr 6 band im buying soon doesnt sort it out im getting rid. I know a lot of people have tried to help me out with settings and im very greatful, but im afraid nothing seems to be working, it always sounds tackly, harsh, and muddy not matter what settings I use. so if I do have to get a new amp, im thinking im gonna try something tube. I would love a peavey 5150, but those beasts are way out of my price range. ive found that a valveking 112 however is easily affordable, but how good are they? does anyone here have one? would they be good for stuff like in flames, pantera, metallica, trivium, etc? do they sound good at low volumes because i play in my bedroom and wont be able to have it too loud

cheers guys

i just found out I do. ok i really thought about if i should post this or not but man. everything in me that has a soul says i gotta.

so im lookin at stuff online today and im bored. one link leads to another and i find myself and dimebag hardware's website. which is run by naturallywired. i also go over to dimebag hardware's myspace to find a message from "chad" saying a new person was going to be running the myspace for dime and hed be doing the website only.

"chad" refers to chad dyer. the guy that ripped off zakk wylde fans for several hundred thousand dollars with the whole 357 choppers scam.

why is rita and vinnie ok with this guy?

also seems that his "company" is doing web work for several members of BLS. after watching the interview w/ zakk and how he got "ripped off by chad" and the lawsuit he filed against chad, i gotta ask. was it all bull?

i realize this opens up a ton of worms and drama, but i cant believe nobody has said anything about this before now.

dime would NOT be cool w/ a scumbag like chad working on his site.

Hey fellas,
I got me a pq6 on the way to go with my rg80es and my mxr 6 band. Anyone used 1? Is it exactly the same as having 2 pq3's?

I ultimatly want a pq4 but I got this to tide me over. I've owned the randall since like 98 and I never used it's distortion because it's so muddy. Can't wait to hear the tone from hell!!

I am gonna clean the contacts and board as well.

Any 1 have proper settings for the pq3 that work with the rg100ht settings on the dime pic and the frown mxr?

Thanks peeps.
Anyone know to to play these?
by Benthic_Pig on Thu Apr 19, 2007 10:02 am
hey ya'all

Ive been well struggling with 2 bits in dime's songs - the main squeally riff from avoid the light, and the breakdown at like 2:00 in primal concrete sledge.

i kinda tabbed out primal concrete sledge, but from the vids he looks like hes playing around fret 3 - 7 on the g string...i was playing around fret 6 -8 on the A...anyone know the true position?

As for avoid the light...well, im using the young guitar tab for it, but as i cant read japanese, i cant understand the notes about the whammy. I played around for a day trying to get the squeals timed right, but im not sure if the tab is correct now in the first place. Its bloody hard anyway...frustrating as the solo is quite easy!!

Any suggestions well appreciated, id love to play these songs live...

I bought the album today. And it's weird but it seems Hellbound is cut a little short at the end and it goes straight to GOLDARN' Electric. Sorry I just noticed that and wanted to know if it was normal. Laughing

14 days before Dime was killed, Old post.
by Vekin on Wed Apr 25, 2007 7:15 am
I just found this old post that I wrote 14 days before Dime was murdered. Brought back some good memories. I later gave the autographed "Dean is King" photo to Dean in a frame. Tears came to his eyes and he said it was one of the nicest things anybody has given him. It was priceless to me but I knew it would mean the world to him.

Question re: MXR Flanger Doubler Blue-Face VS. Black Face
by C-EZ on Fri Apr 27, 2007 9:17 pm
HEy not sure if this has been answered. I did a search but was unable to find anything so hear goes...

Does anyone know what the difference is between the MXR Flanger/Doubler Model #126 Blue Face VS. Black Face?

Is it only cosmetic? I have seen both on eBay and it seems the Blue Face is a bit more popular but they look pretty damn identical to me.
Any thoughts or answers here?

Thank you,

C-EZ

MXR Flanger/Doubler..Footswitch?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????????
by C-EZ on Sun Apr 29, 2007 2:34 am
I am gettin ready to buy a MXR Flanger/Doubler and like most it will not include a footswitch. Does anyone know what I can rig up or use to control this puppy? I'd like to at least be able to bypass it with a foot controller.

let me know!

Thanks as always!

I may be the 1st 1 to do this
by www.DropD.net on Sun Apr 29, 2007 2:36 am
I took my pq-6 today, and after my blue mxr 6 band, placed one side into the front of the amp, and then into the noise gate, into my rg80es, then the other side of the pq-6 into the fx loop, into another noise gate. I bypassed the eq up front, and only use the preamp, and all the eqing is in the loop. I ended up with a solid crunch from the randall, very much like cowboys from hell meets master of puppets. Anyways, in front of the amp, I can hardly tell any difference in adjusting the frequency's, but in the loop, You can dial in like 15 million different tones.

So all i'm saying is try the pq in the loop, cutting the mids like 6 db with a 1-2 db boost on the low and high.

...just wondering.....four, or three?

If I pick up the 3 Vulgar Vids, will I need to get the 4th, if there is one?

Too lazy to google.

I hear the DVD compilation isn't so great as you can't skip through the chapters on each vid...just ff scan. That kinda sucks.

by Serbusfish on Mon Apr 30, 2007 11:23 am
..and wow! it makes so much of a difference! the dime chunk is there, the gain is there and it sounds tonnes better than what it did! but I was wondering how I should have it set up? here is how I got it atm:

Guitar ---> Boss MT2 ---> MXR ---> hush ---> Amp

I have the mxr eqs all boosted to top apart from first 2 which are half way between top and 0. my amps eq is in the V shape and im getting an amazing cowboys kinda tone. but the tone is slightly too thin, needs to be a bit thicker, can anyone suggest what I can do to achieve this?
can anyone help me with my tone?
by kite_from_hell on Mon Apr 30, 2007 7:12 pm
hey, to anyone that plays guitar well or is familar with the tech side, can anyone help me with the sound id like to achieve?

im buying myself a randall rh150 g3 head through a randall cab, cant remember the model name right now, its meant for the head though.

id like a real tight, clear distortion channel, but still heavy, without fuzz though, good aid for my pinch harmonics, and will sound fit with my wah (morley vai bad horsie 2)

anyone got any recommendations/hints as to what EQ i could use? [reverb included Smile]

cheers!
