Dimes Pickups
by Caraluzzo on Wed May 02, 2007 6:29 am
I was wondering something about how dime had his pickups set up, alright..

i know he flipped his BL in his guitars. now, during the CFH era dime had a BL in the bridge and the neck, were both of them flipped? I wasnt sure if he had the bridge flipped and the neck how its suppose to be so he could get both the tones the BL could provide for him.

anyone know?

Warheads
by Benthic_Pig on Thu May 03, 2007 3:19 pm
hey peeps,

Just wondering if you guys had any suggestions for trying out new stuff with my warheads.

I generally just use them stock, with a wah from hell , mxr kfk 10 band and whammy pedal. I usually go for a sort of heavy crowbar tone, not too much mid, but not too scooped either, bass pretty prevailent and treble pretty high. I cant really specify as the two i have are different runs so sound really different from one another. I use one as the "bass channel" (its an absolute monster from an early run) and the other for mids and treble really.

I did try using a silencer in the effects loop, but that was actually noisier than if i didnt bother ( i am beginning to wonder if my effects loop is a little faulty...). Is there much point in trying the 10 band in the effects loop? Ive never tried goosing them either....never felt i needed to. Anyone tried it?

Im not dissatisfied with my tone atm, im just curious as to what everyone does with their own or what they did in the past with them.

[edit] ive posted this here as i reckon it'll be dimebag fans who'll be likely to have had warheads...
Speaker cab question..
by kingoflight on Thu May 03, 2007 8:50 pm
So i should be getting an Rg100es along either tomorrow or early next week, as this is my first head i am gonna get a cab to go with it. Ive been looking at 2x12's as i don't need to kill the neighbours but i would like to make there ears bleed. So just wanted to ask would this Engl cab go well with the head?

http://www.thomann.de/gb/engl_e212vh_gitarrenbox.htm

I don't understand the whole ohms things, the head is 120W and so is the cab so they will go right ?

Lastly people on other sites have voiced there opinons on the V60 speakers that they are too bassy and suffocate the tone to much so i am leaning towards getting V30's which from this site is the cheapest ive found so far. Anyone got two cents of there own to throw in on V30 Vs V60.

thank you please!
WHICH DIME TO BUY
by JDW on Thu May 03, 2007 10:16 pm
i dont know wich Dean to buy. I live The CFH, havent played the Fbd, and i dont want a razorback. I am also leaning towards a timecapsul or the Warbird Ml or Dixie Rebel. This is a tough one.
Thoughts ..Contemplating buying a MXR Doubler/Flanger - $200
by C-EZ on Thu May 03, 2007 11:24 pm
Question for anyone who cares to answer. Smile

I can get a black face MXR Doubler/Flanger in really good condition for either $185 if I pick it up or $200 shipped.

I know it's not the more popular Blue Face model so I was curious so see what you all thought.

Like I said the thing is in really great condition.

thought's?

Thank you my fellow Dime friendz!

Tech question fs-5 (marker?)
by www.DropD.net on Sun May 06, 2007 6:38 pm
ok, Marker or any one who can answer for sure, I just bought a midi relay switcher. it switches analog amps thru midi. I wanna use it with my rg80-es. I have an original fs-5, and i wanna know what wires I need to use to switch between clean and dirty. Its basically gonna be a 1/4 inch to 6 pin randall cord. I have no use for the both channels function, nor the leds. Marker, could you send me a pic of the innards of one of your custom pedals? In a nutshell I beleive 2 of the pins are needed to connect to my 2 pin 1/4 inch jack and I need to know which 2.

warheads!!!!!! need some help on settings
by panterica83 on Wed May 09, 2007 10:27 am
on my warhead i want some mids from the head without touching the graphic eq and i dont want to use the frequency knob if possible. What i want to do is add some mids with the mid. level knob at like 1 oclock and then i can put the mid frequency to 0 and that should give me the same tone as any regular head with a mid knob set to 3oclock, correct? because i dont want to use the warheads graphic or the parametric eq knob just the head set like a rg or c200 head with the furman and mxr as the boosters and swoopers!

thanks 83

let me know if that should work!

I know the picture isnt very clear, but when it says 8 on the speaker does it mean 8 ohms? maybe someone who has celestion vintage 30 speakers will know?

so if it is 8 ohms, am I right in saying that I can plug a head into them like a peavey 5150 for example, and set it to 8 ohms, it will work?

BBE Crusher Distortion Pedal - Review
by Bigdaddyroush on Thu May 10, 2007 12:19 am
VDOP tone in a pedal. No other crap required. Go forth and buy one now! Very Happy

Seriously, it sounds better than my old Warhead. It is not fuzzy at all, it nails Vulgar on the nose. If anyone wants the settings, let me know. Really happy with the performance of this pedal, just hooked into the front end of a Randall Titan with the 2X12/1X15 cab. Jebus!!!

Also picked up an Ibanez Smash-Box pedal. It has insane amounts of gain and the built in noise gate is the bomb! All pedals should have that feature. Not bad on clearance for $29 new in the box. Definitely happy with both, but the BBE blew my mind.

Well, it's about 11 pm here in Sweden and I am into my 6th or 7th glass of wine ...

Dimebag has taught me alot about music, and life. I had guitar heroes befor him like SLASH and Kee Marcello, Kirk......But it felt like I got to know Dimebag a lot more.

He always seemed so down to earth in the magazines and videos. Sure, he could be an ass hole.. just read that interview in Total Guitar magazine where he had been drinking for three days and destroys a guitar and makes no sense..

But who doesn't have a bad day? Smile

Dimebag Darrell Taught me alot how to play guitar, you can hear a lot of him in my playing. The bends and the big vibrato. I am no where near his ability, but it's nice to know that his legacy will carry on in me and in all you guitar playing fans out there. I could tell my kid: "You hear that squeal? Mr Dimebag taught me that"..

He taught me a lot about music. I have been a big Dream Theater fan for some time noe. and you know videos from Dimevision when it's just him and a camera? and he talks about how some people wants the drummer to stay in tempo .. I used to be like that, stop the rehearsal , complaining that our drummer is changing the tempo..

but I realise.. It's not important how many notes your play or how perfekt.. it's the wibe and feeling in the music that counts..

I realize now that the songs gets a lot better if I leave the drummer alone.. more intense, more Dynamic.

I'm trying to live more for the moment, I am planning on getting my first tattoo, life is so short and could tomorrow as we all know...

So here is to you Dimebag and to all of us stuck here..

Whats the best way to use the warheads on board eq?
by Serbusfish on Mon May 14, 2007 5:12 pm
recently ive been getting a great sound out of my warhead, but ive been messing around with the graphic eq and found that my original tone was actually fairly quiet, meaning I had to turn up the master volume more than usual. so my question is, how should I set the graphic? I have been using it in a V shape to get the tone I liked the most, with the 1K at the very bottom and the sliders at each end at the very top. my mxr has all sliders boosted almost to the top

Ive seen that there was an Xp block booster some diode mod a footswitch and of course my fav TURN THE VOLUME UP!

I can't seam to find a post with someone who acctually got it other than that guy who made it.

Also was the information ever made public?

It seams over the posts i read its like a $2 dollar job to fit these diodes in.

I'm selling a Randall rg80es 150 watt solid state head(furry one, hehe). It doesn't have a footswitch but you can buy one from MARKER on this forum. It's loud as hell, all knobs are intact. They only thing missing is the little metal ring that goes around the power switch but you can get one for like 50 cents or something. I'll take the best offer for it. Don't know how soon I can get pics and I'll check the year it was made if you need it.

I just came back from the BlacktoothBash at the house of blues. OMG, started out with kids playing Pantera and old school songs that I forgot. Then AIC came out did a acoustic set, on the last song Scott Ian and Jerry played Wish you were here on the AIC Acoustic Set. The dude from Staind played and was AMAZING. Then Caster or whatever his name is the lead singer for Linkin Park and Dave Nurvaro played zepplin and ACDC songs, Cester nailed it, they were Amazing. John 5 and some Vocalist that I dont know played Halen Songs, john 5 rips. the very last set was Vinne, Ace, Scott, Bobzilla, and nick bocot played Kiss and Pantera songs. Alot of other sets and Mixing of bands went on and oh AIC did a electric set In the middle of the show.

Dime Walk Of Fame Inductions / Auction / Concert
by LewnWorx on Fri May 18, 2007 6:14 pm
All I can say at this point (on about 2 hours of sleep) is WOW.

I've got 1500 photos to sort through, and while I may attempt it on the plane, it's not likely.

The induction was incredibly cool, with an absolutely massive fan turnout, not to mention a couple hundred VIPs.

The SSM auction went really well. Over $200,000 was raised, enough to start Little Kids Rock chapters in DFW (Rita's home turf) and Tampa.

One of the SSM guitars will be hanging on my wall as well. I landed Jason D'Aquino's killer piece, which I've loved since the first time I saw it in Clearwater at DOA a couple years ago. Jason was there helping out with the auction as well, and was a very cool guy to boot.

Mark Ryden's was (as expected) the highest priced seller, garnering $40,000.

As for the concert..

Woah. Unbefuckinglievable. Really. 900 photos later and I still didn't catch it all. It really was the show of the decade. Take a few dozen of the music industry's finest and put em all on the same stage and it doesn't get much better than that.

I'm too shot to remember everybody but a partial list of performers included:

Alice In Chains (all of em), John 5, Dave Navarro, Bob Zilla, Vinnie Paul, Ace Frehley, half of Queensryche, Scott Ian, Doug from King's X, Pearl, Nick Bowcott, and another dozen or two I'll remember when I've had some sleep.

It was an absolutely obscene amount of fun.

I'll try to get shots up as soon as I'm able. As for now I gotta pack and catch a plane. Cheers.

TLLL LA Dime Trip PT1: Guitar Center
by LewnWorx on Sun May 20, 2007 12:02 am
The LewnWorx Ludicrously Large LA Dime Trip Coverage
Part 1: The Guitar Center Rockwalk Store

I've had a day to sort of ponder over this thing, and the more I think about it, the more I realize that very few got to be a part of it (relatively). The entire day was a truly unique event, and I count myself fortunate, not just in having been able to attend, but in having carte blanche access TO the entire event.

As a result, I think it's only appropriate to share as much as possible with you guys.

I got in on Wednesday. First stop was to the Guitar Center that hosts the Rock Walk of fame. I met Elliot there, along with the West Coast Dean regional rep. Part of the prep work was in making sure various stuff for the event arrived correctly and was in place for the next day. We got the credentials squared away, and unboxed some stuff that had been shipped in. Elliot and the rep had to take off to hit some other stores, and I just sort of wandered around the store taking pictures.

This thing is NOT your average guitar center. Really. I live in Dallas, and we have a couple HUGE GC's but as far as what's stocked there's nothing particularly interesting about them. This is another case altogether, as you'll soon see.

Image

First off, it's a LARGE store. Our "main" store in Dallas is about 2/3 this size.

Image

This is across the street. It hasn't changed much from the pictures that used to be in the catalogs I got as a kid. There's also a Sam Ash across the street and the Mesa Boogie store. Gear head mecca indeed.

Ok let's go in..

Image

Ok, so most large guitar stores have used sections. This one is no different. It's got a lot of used guitars.

Image

Looking up gives you your first indication it's a bit different than most used sections.

Image

In fact, this "used" section is a lot bigger than most "new" sections.

Image1

That's a pretty sizable number of used strats there.

Image

Oh, I'm sorry. I sort of forgot to mention this um.. "used" collection is entirely composed of PRIMO vintage stuff. The 57 in the price tag? That's in THOUSANDS. Righty ho, I'll take three. Good thing the Schwiper ish Verking.

Image

And here we have a fairly decent beginner's guitar. You wouldn't want junior starting out on something he could scratch up. Might as well be a used one, so you don't feel bad if he dings it.

Image

Equally important for a beginner is a nice portable little practice amp. Any of these would do quite nicely, particularly if Junior's into Dick Dale.

Image

This little number would go well to the aspiring rocker. Or you could by a car. Your choice.

Image

Why on earth would anybody want one of these "marsh" cabinets is beyond me. Probably some cheap foreign knock off or some such.
A quick check on the price of the head and my decision to leave mine in the closet instead of selling it back when I prematurely dumped my 52 Goldtop was instantly justified. I only wish I'd dumped the head and kept the guitar. Live and learn.

Image

Ok, now this stuff was just plain fun. They have a large selection of some really oddball stuff.

Image

And here's a groovy little number you don't see every day. Did I mention this IS a Guitar Center?

Image

Pure 60's low end goodness. These are the real deal, not reissues or copies.

Image

Here's an ugly, unholy bastard child only Jack White could love.

Image

Moving out into the main store proper, we see that this GC stocks Dean. And, unlike most GC's, these are actually USA's.

Image

First time I've seen a 3 pup USA Z in some time. For a bit over 3 large, it can be yours.

Image

Ok, being an ex studio owner, here's the stuff that gets me all kinds of wood. Kids this is a full on MC5 control surface. These things eat DigiDesign Icon's and D-Controls for breakfast. You have one of these, or a huge house in the suburbs in a very nice neighborhood. Your pick.

Image

For people who are more into the analog style desk, here's a little piece that might work for you.

Image

Yeah. Just some lame off brand. These things have an absolutely incredible eq section. Just amazing.

Image

Ok now that we've seen the "good stuff" let's go slumming.
This here is a cheap ass Icon D-Control. You know, like $90K cheap.

Image

This is a more pedestrian D-Command rig.

Image

I had ordered one of these at one point, and cancelled it in favor of going the Logic + Logic Control Route. I'm glad I did.

Ok, so there's a quick store tour. I didn't even hit the bass, KB or drum sections, but they were all equally well stocked.

I also have plenty of the Hi-Gain mod chips available too.(both patents pending) If you want to juice up that randall rg100es or rg80, these are the way to go. Everyone who has gotten them, love them. They are $25 bucks a piece, so just give me a pm if interested. Thanks dudes! Very Happy
Revolution intro explained

After some long discussion about how he did it back in the day with some friends, flipping through tab sites, and unsuccessfully trying to figure it out by ear, Dime explains it (sort of Laughing )

If this is old news, apologies in advance. I thought this was a cool clip, and having him explain the intro is kinda cool, though I can't imagine ever trying to duplicate it... Laughing

New guitar day (Non Dean content)
by '87 sherwood on Tue May 22, 2007 7:21 pm
Here's some pics of my new guitar. It fits in well with the other's and plays sweet. The 59 sounds great in the neck position. It's the first '59 I've played and I love it. I'll be getting one for my Black Knight I think. I still have to put new strings on the CFH and install my 1 meg pot to see which pickup I actually prefer (super distorsion vs '59). To be fair the new strings on The Cross are super bright compared to the old strings on the CFH so I can't compare just yet and I've been gone away for a while so the maintenance has slipped a little. Overall I'm very happy with the new addition to my collection. I have to get a frame tonight for the certificate of authenticity. I found Boogie Street very good to deal with and Eric answered all my many emails very fast and shipping was super quick. Fit and finish are highly detailed and perfected No flaws could be found. If you have any questions fire away.

Dime guitar vid (me playing Skid row) *NDC*
by '87 sherwood on Thu May 24, 2007 6:19 pm
I just did a quick vid with the cross. It's not a pantera lead but a skid row lead. If I played a panetera lead right now it would get analyzed to death cause I have been away from guitar for a while due to work and I couldn't play Dime's leads as cleanly as I'd like right now. But later I'll post some more.

*help please* want to run rg100es through warhead speakers
by Serbusfish on Thu May 24, 2007 10:05 pm
im getting an RG100es head soon and ive been thinking about what cabinet to buy for it. but then I figured, ive already got a warhead combo with celestions, why dont I just run the head through them? so basically i was wondering if this can be done? each speaker is rated at 8 ohms and both connect by a single input jack to the warhead. so if I run the speakers into the RG100es 8ohms mono speaker out, would this be ok to do?

by Benthic_Pig on Sat May 26, 2007 12:26 pm
hey all,

Just taken my warheads to bits and im putting them together again - alas, i forgot to look at how the speaker wires (the wire that comes from the back with 2 terminals) were attached to the cones - how do they attach back on?

1 terminal to the + on each cone or what?
My personal replica of the DFH
by ttrentt on Sat May 26, 2007 9:44 pm
First post here...Pantera was the band that got me into guitar and playing. So for my own personal reflection on his untimely passing, I decided to build a replica of his very famous "Dean From Hell." I realize that Dean actually makes a replica, but I wanted to do my own. I honestly wasn't happy with the replicas, so I decided to build my own. So here we are with the pics of the process.

Image

Dean ML as purchased off Craigslist.. $200

Image

So we strip it down and sand the body. I realize Darrells Dean was actually a set neck, but, hey, we gotta work with what we can work with.

Image

So, we put the base coat of blue on. The color I chose is actually "Molson Blue" (of the beer company). I work at a paint company and mixed the paint myself.

Image

Then we airbrush the black "fade" on.

Image

Then we airbrush the background of the lightning.

Image

Then, by hand, we paint the actual lightning bolts onto the guitar.

Image

Then we shoot the clear on the guitar.

Image

Then we reassemble the guitar, with the right parts, and correct pickups. The Floyd Rose needs to be switched out to a black one, and a few other minor hardware corrections, and we will have a decent replica. All the paint on this guitar was Endura, which is an amazing polyurethane based industrial paint. Insanely tough stuff.

Image

I just used some hardware I had laying around to set the guitar up. I spend about 20 hours adjust truss rod/shimming/fret dressing, etc to make this guitar play perfect. This thing was made in Korea, not to the highest standards it seems.

Image

Here it is with more correct black hardware. I routed out the floyd cavitiy so I could have a stupid amount of pull on the whammy. I used a low-profile license floyd from eBay ($70) which I really like. The bridge pickup is a BLUSA ($60). So for $330 we have a guitar that I believe looks and plays better than the MIChina replicas. I also did a couple things like bring the black all the way across the side (I always hated how it had a cutoff on the side), and I also painted the black/fade into the floyd cavities which I feel looks cleaner.

Long live brother Darrel.

Razorback DB
by Razerback on Tue May 29, 2007 2:49 am
Well i was wondering... is the Dean Razorback DB not two tone not 255 a good guitar... How does it sound compared to the two tone. What is the difference between the two tone and the DB? Would this be a good guitar (sounds just like the two tone) if you didnt have the money to buy the twon tone, since the DB is only 450$.

One of Pantera's most heart felt songs in my opinion I've been recording at my college, go to finish the drums which unfortunatley shall probally be midi but the guitars sound really cool, going to try and get my freind to put the vocals over it when I go back to college and hopefully I'll be able to share it with you guys on here.

Anyone else done anything simular on here?

Dime Planet Caravan tone

Anybody know what Dime used guitar/amp/effects wise to get his tone on the solo for Planet Caravan? That bluesy tone is killer! Thanks for any help.
