BLUSA L500XL installation help
by Serbusfish on Wed Sep 05, 2007 5:18 pm
Can someone give me some advice on how a BLUSA L500XL pup is installed, ie where each wire needs to go? is it the same for all guitars? because I have one installed in my ML and i can see only the red and black wires are connected to the volume pot, the green and white wires arent connected to anything. The black wire is connected to the top of the pot and the red wire is connected to one of the prongs. There is a metal meshy wire which is also connected to the back of the pot. is this how they should be wired in all guitars or are some different? sorry i really dont know much about this sort of thing, i need to learn though, as my mum has told me she will no longer keep driving me round to get pickups installed Crying or Very sad

Me playing revolution is my name
by Serbusfish on Tue Sep 11, 2007 3:23 pm
been messing around with my piece of crap webcam today, managed to get it working ok and attemped to record myself playing. recorded a long video of my playing loads of random riffs, took this small segment from it. basically its just the revolution is my name intro, first verse and chorus, with a few noobish harmonic squeals at the end for good measure! please let me know what you think guys, its not perfect and I wasnt going for a dime tone or anything, it was just a quick test jam to try out the webcams mic (the sound quality isnt very good as i didnt crank my amp up enough, plus the mic sucks, i'll try and do another vid later)

Here we go: my Randall RG100es and my doubts!
by teohatecrew on Wed Sep 12, 2007 12:14 pm
Hy! I'm new... this is my first post

http://www.deanguitars.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=40498

...I hope I'm welcome here!

Let's go: In the past years I had a Peavey Bandit 65 and then I moved to Randall buying a 75w combo of the g3 series. The tone I got was pretty killer (using my zoom gfz4 first and then a digitech rp150), but i sold it months ago since i had the fortune to found a rg100es head (1987).
I play it through a Carvin Legacy 2x12 cabinet (v30 celestion equipped). I boost my head with a mxr m-108 equalizer (ten bands...the black one).
My tone is dime stile: i boost the boost the mids with the eq and from the head i pump gain (about 3 o'clock), basses, while i set mids and highs and presence about 11 o'clock...no reverb.

I like the tone...very impressive. I think it kicks asses...palm muting directly in your face!
Very Happy

But i have some doubts, so I'll try to go with some order explaining my situation:

1. Probably i'll buy a mxr m-109 blue face to boost the Randall head...so I'll hear the difference (i have read it gives you more gain). Moreover some bands are differents (there is 800hz for example and not the 1000Hz). What are you exepriences?

2. I play in a metal band (thrash-death). Since there are two guitars I need a boost for solo palying. So I think I'll put the blue face in front to boost and the black face in S/R to boost me up for solo...Opinions?

3. Randall XP-3 Block Booster? What's this? I read old posts but the situation's not clear for me. Does it boost your volume?

Why don't use rg100es treble boost?
by teohatecrew on Fri Sep 14, 2007 9:11 pm
...i know using the boost volume drops down, but instead of suing head boosted with furman/pedals or something else is it possible to find out a crushing tone using head and nothing else?

Dean MLF 79 vs Dean FBD ML
by Brint on Sat Sep 15, 2007 7:18 pm
Hello
I'm new to this forum and to dean guitars.. Dont own one.. yet..
But now it's time get my wings
Since I miss my Washburn dime333 that I sold a couple years ago, I have to get a ML

I love the Brazilianburst and I was thinking.... What's the difference between the spec. on the FBD ML and the MLF 79
http://www.deanguitars.com/bnds_v1/79_ml_tbraz_floyd.htm

exept the obvious... the dimestickers, the dimebucker, dime traction knobs and the hardcase...

The FBD ML will cost me about 1500 US $
and the price for the MLF 79 upgraded with a dimebucker and a hardcase will be about 1200 US $

So which one is the better guitar?

I understand that it's more "tribute-like" to buy the FBD one.. but it's more hardcore to buy a MLF 79 and upgrade it (and cheaper!)

But if the FBD is better build I certainly will go for that one

Well cheers everyone!

Pantera 5 minutes alone clip... Randall Cyclone
by BOOGIE444 on Tue Sep 25, 2007 5:14 pm
Didnt spend too much time with these obviously as I left fuckups in there and I didnt double track or record the whole song yet. Just a TONE TEST to see if I am getting close to that "Far Beyond Driven" tone.

Two clips with backing tracks. First clip is with the gain 1/2 way up, second clip is with the gain 3/4 way up. Let me know what you guys think, or which clip sounds closer to the actual song's tone.

RG-80es vs Re-EQ'd Cyclone... 5 minutes alone CLIP...
by BOOGIE444 on Thu Sep 27, 2007 2:05 pm
Any better this time???

Anyway I took some of the mids out with the Cyclone's parametric rotorary mid control and added some more bass on the 9-band graphic eq as well, I think it turned out much better this time.

I also did a quick clip with my Randall RG-80es boosted of course with my tubescreamer just for shits and giggles. I didnt really mess with the eq much on the RG-80es to match the "FBD" tone I just used one of my standard heavy settings and for some reason it turned out a little bassier than it sounded in the room, oh well

Settings with the little carpeted RG-80es were....
Gain: 3:00 o'clock
Mids: noon
treble: noon and pulled
pressence: OFF
bass: maxed

Does the Cyclone clip sound better than the last couple of clips I posted with that thing, is it getting closer to the "FBD" tone yet? I just threw in a RG-80es clip of this for shits & giggles, how do you guys like that compared to the Cyclone clip???

Found a pic of Dimebag.
by nicodemoscain on Fri Sep 28, 2007 4:31 pm
Like it says, I found an old pic of Dime while going through some boxes after our move into the new house. I got it from a friend a couple years ago along with a Pantera guitar pick that he said is the same pick Dime was actually using in the picture I'm posting. The backstory on this one is (I think.) that this was from Ozzfest 1997 in Indianapolis. I guess Ozzy couldn't perform that night or something and all the other bands came up onstage and goofed around for a couple of hours. I think that's Dino Cazares from Fear Factory playing beside him. I'm not sure. It could be Vinnie Paul for all I know. I'll have to get with my buddy again and ask him for the full scoop on this one. Anyways, I thought you all would enjoy this shot. Take it easy. Cool
