TREMSETTER on a Dean ML or Razorback
by bassmantim71 on Wed Jan 02, 2008 3:23 pm
Happy New Year!!!

Haven't seen many new posts here this week (which sux 'cause I'm addicted to this forum). So I'll throw one out there. Twisted Evil

I'm planning on ordering a tremsetter to stabalize the tremolo on my Dean FBD, it's also supposed to improve the sound (no energy lost to trem flutter or warble), you can see a demo here in the beginning of the video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jvl0fLOzwi8

I searched "tremsetter" on this forum, but couldnt find any pics. If any of you have the tremsetter installed on an ML or Razor, could you pleeze POST SOME PICS and your opinion on this option.

Got it off another forumite. I have no idea about this head. We are trading and he is letting me try this head for a day or two before I make my final decision. What can you guys tell me about this head? Good and bad are welcome. Oh, just to clarify. This is going to be a something that will be used on the road extensively and in the studio. There is no bedroom jamming kind of stuff going on here. OK discuss... Oh and thanks in advance.

Dimebags Tunings
by CFH_SDMF on Fri Jan 04, 2008 4:18 am
How about we do a sticky with all the tunings Dimebag used on his songs. We should do the effects and gear he used too.

I try searching and I usually find people arguing about the tunings and effects and I cant find an answer. So how about we all work together and figure out the tunings and effects and everything else and make it a sticky.

Do ya'll think this is a good idea.

I know this is a dean forum but i thought somebody here might know something about this Smile Oh.. and his askin 400€ for it..

If you could only choose 1 Randall to dial up the Dime sound
by xxxRip DEATHxxx on Fri Jan 04, 2008 6:08 pm
which would it be. I am having a very difficult time making a decision on which Randall to get. I am also considering a Krankenstein. See, the deal is that I don't wanna sound exactly like Dime, because I want to work with my own high gain tone. But, I currently play a Marshall DSL 50 and that just doesn't get me the crunch I want. I don't wanna use effects to get the SS overdriven sound. I want to dial up a 2 or 3 channel amp to get a slightly broken clean, and a heavy Panteraish tone. I would like an out of the box tone to be close to this...

http://youtube.com/watch?v=ugmxdT5qnE4&feature=related

From there, I'll dial my own effects in.

These seem to be the choices right?:

RG 100 ES (but there is no footswitch right?)

RM 100 with blackface, ultra, ultra xl

Warhead

X2

Titan

V2

T2

Krankenstein

Please throw me some info on the best amp for the Vulgar/Cowboys overdriven sound out of the box. Also, what year range of the amp should I get? Will the current RX amps dial it in? What were the RG's of then compared to the SS amps Randall makes now?

These will be used in club to midsized outdoor gigs, so I won't be able to turn them up to area level.

Thanks!

To peel..., or not to peel...,
by bassmantim71 on Sat Jan 05, 2008 9:36 pm
Just came back from New York today with my brand new Dean FBD, I exchanged my old one as it had a warrenty issue.

So I just set up the floyd, broke the stings in with a few divebombs and by playing Walk, Mouth, and Sandblasted. I and now I have to make my first BIG decision in 2008:

Do I peel the quad Dime sticker off of the body?!? I love the Dime on the headstock, it's under the clear..., but a sticker on top of the clear on a beautiful guitar like this really bugs me. What do you dudes think?

dinner with allovertonite
by rottingcorpse on Sun Jan 06, 2008 5:51 pm
first,i wanna thank everyone involved with building and running this forum.i have developed some good friends here. and thru this forum,i was able to hook up with a very old friend, one who was a huge factor in my playing style.
once we figured out who each other was,we established contact thru pm's and phone calls.i let my company know i wanted to get a run thru his area so we could hook up for dinner.
ever meet up with an old friend, and it goes better than you could have hoped or dreamed for?
we met up around 7pm,and talked non-stop till 1am. stories about darrell and early pantera, about our old band, recording demos at pantego sound,etc...i kept trying to give him an "out"so he could go home, but he just hung out...i could have talked to him all night.
so...why am i tell you this?
i had mentioned several time during the conversation that some of you guys that are dimebag fans love hearing his stories. they are well thought out,and he tells them in such a way that we can almost feel like we are there.
i also mentioned that i would be posting about the dinner on the forum.he said that if i did,he would come on and maybe break you guys off another little choice nugget.
so here we go.
yo,brother. time to pay up.
love ya man.thanks for the time last night. more than you know.
I might sell a warhead...
by Benthic_Pig on Sun Jan 06, 2008 5:53 pm
Hey peeps,

I'm thinking about selling one of my warhead combos. Alas, i am running out of space, and its gonna be damn hard to pay my bills this month.

I havent seen any one eBay recently, and wondered what you folks thought i might get for one.

It''l either be the Warhead A or C combo, both are in really good condition. I'll just have to decide which one gives the best tone as they sound different (older one is a bass monster).

Alas, i never managed to get the money to convert them to UK power (i did find out where and how i could do it however).

I'd ship them with the pedals and 1000w step down transformer to run it at 100v.

Judging from what i paid for them, i'd like to get more than £300. If it seems unlikely, i wont sell - i like it too much to justify selling it unless i'll get some proper money for it.

cheers dudes/

Easiest Pantera / Damageplan gutar solos
by bassmantim71 on Mon Jan 07, 2008 1:33 am
OK, so after playing bass for 17 years, I definetely have some skills. I've also always played rhythm guitar as a hobby.

With my 300w Warhead on the way, I think it's time to learn how to play lead on guitar. I found this dude on youtube (denleyd1) who posted 65 of his videos that are easy to follow. But it's all really "blues-eee", example:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FQ23R16thcE

So, I have a few questions:

1) Any good Metal guitar lessons on the net?

2) Anyone here use that guitar software, is it expensive, any recommendations?

3) From the Pantera / Damageplan catalog, what are the easiest solos to play?

I can play most of Dimes rhythm guitar parts with ease, but as a bass player, the guitar solos kill me. Example: I can play the Mouth 4 War solo, up to the riff that starts on the bass strings. Too f&*ing fast for me right now. Maybe if some software could slow it down, I would be able to learn it a little easier.

This isn't my auction, but I have two of these and I will never sell 'em. They are small and ballsy! If I had the loot I'd buy this one.
In fact, I currently run 2 2x12's, and have 4 more jaguars in a box ready for me to build 2 more 2x12's. So i'll have 4 cabs running and it'll be only 8 speakers, but much more internal cabinet room than only 2 4x12 boxes.

The cab above is selectable 4 or 16 ohms. I prefer my rg 80 at 16 ohms, cause I can turn the amp louder and get more tone out of it.
I've heard the ohms only affects the volume you here, but I swear there's a tone difference as well.
DIMEBAG's Girlfriend Says PHIL ANSELMO's Actions 'Led To'

blabbermouth:

DIMEBAG's Girlfriend Says PHIL ANSELMO's Actions 'Led To' Guitarist's Murder - Jan. 7, 2008

"If Phil Anselmo hadn't quit PANTERA, Darrell wouldn't have been playing in that shithole where that guy could get to him."

That is but one of the many startling and revealing statements about "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott that his girlfriend of 20 years, Rita Haney, makes in the March 2007 issue of Guitar World magazine.

In a lengthy and exclusive interview conducted almost three years to the day after Dimebag's death on December 8, 2004, Haney gives Guitar World readers a revealing look inside the heart and soul of metal's lost cowboy from hell and offers some lacerating criticism of his former bandmates DAMAGEPLAN singer Pat Lachman and Anselmo.

With regards to Dimebag's final days on the road with DAMAGEPLAN, the band he and Vinnie formed following PANTERA's breakup, Haney says, "I remember in his final days, Darrell was calling me a lot and he told me that he didn't know what to do about [vocalist] Pat Lachman. Pat said that he didn't want to sing any PANTERA songs, but he knew what he was getting into when he joined the band. It got to the point where Darrell blew up completely. He said, 'Look, if I want a Lil' Buddy for a singer I'll call up Phil Anselmo! I can at least make money with that motherf@#$%.' "

And in one of the interview's most incendiary moments, she unleashes her verdict on Phil Anselmo and how his drug addictions and actions ultimately led to Dimebag's murder in Columbus, Ohio, at the hands of deranged gunman Nathan Gale.

"The bottom line is Phil's actions led to what happened," Haney says. "The guy wouldn't have been after Vinnie and Darrell if PANTERA had not broken up. It was all due to Phil's stupid, stupid actions."

VH1 Behind the Music: Pantera
by JahcobusZ on Tue Jan 08, 2008 6:15 am
Well, I just finished watching that epsiode of behind the music, and it was quite funny, but at the same time, quite emotional, on how Pantera was as a Band. The one part that sticks with me though is the end interview with Phil saying,
"No matter what , I Need Vinnie Paul in my Life, I truly need him; and whether or not he knows it yet, He needs Me Too"
Just for Phil to come out and say that, so emotionally and on camera, it's truly enlightening on how he still truly feels about Vinnie and Dime, and Pantera as a whole.

dimebag gear...
by Anonymous on Wed Jan 09, 2008 10:59 pm
i went on a link to www.damageplan-jp.com and looked at dimes gear... i was just wondering what everything in his rack was and what it does, in pic 1 , i dont know what the top one is but i have found out that the 2nd is a SHURE U4D wirless system, the 3rd is just a input rack, the forth is a KORG DTR-2000, in pic 2 i have found that the second one is TC ELECTRONICS G-MAJOR UNIT, 3+4 are FURMAN PQ-4 EQ PROCESSORS and the 5th is a ROCKTRON GUITAR SILENCER and in pic 3 is just a AR-PRO AC LINE VOLTAGE REGULATOR, then there is a pic of some gear ontop of a casem there is a blue pedel and and black pedel, i think the black one is a hendriz octave fuzz, all i want to know is whats the top one in pic 1 , 2nd one down in pic 2,and what the blue pedel is, i think its a eq pedel, and also , i have seen this video - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=RZ1cOQoBfto and was wondering the octave fuzz wah was a all - in - one thing or, relating to the pic of his pedels on www.damageplan-jp.com the black pedel he claims to be a octave fuzz wah is not connected to any of the other but if it is what i think it is, on the flight case i mentioned he may have a hendriz octave fuzz pedel, is that connected to a wah onstage with the octave fuzz box off-stage....so there....just doing my head in ....have fun
Does it sometimes annoy you...
by Darth Jester on Wed Jan 09, 2008 11:30 pm
I don't listen to Pantera or any other band with an attitude that says; anything they do is perfection. In order to see things clearly you need to question certain things.

I like Pantera a lot, but... Dime used a lot of effects, and sometimes it feels like meybe he used them too much in some occasions. Too much effects can take away the "soul" in music, in lack of a better word. It's just noise coming through different kinds of equipment. That's the bad thing I have to say about Pantera; Sometimes overuse of effects bothers me, how about you?
Dime had more gain than me! (sadness inside)
by teohatecrew on Wed Jan 09, 2008 11:38 pm
Why???

I have a Randall rg100es and Furman PQ-4. I've tried differente settings, i've tried 900XL settings...the tone was Pantera tone but i still have very low gain! Difficoult to do armonics...i mean artificial armonis and pinch armonics...i tried also with my mxr m-108 in front but as i supposed it gives little gain more. There must be some differnces that are great differences!

My head gain is at max. High input!

There's something wrong...something missing. Something important...

by classic_rocker978 on Thu Jan 10, 2008 4:02 pm
How the hell Could he scoop mids and cut through live... its confusing the heck out of me... Was everything scooped in the mixing process or what? Cuz i like a somewhat mid scooped sound but dont like not cutting through, do instead i whore mids get a slightly slayerish tone and then rock out... But im just wondering about Dimes tone cutting through live... Like his Monsters of rock in moscow... his tone there is ideal Very Happy... My band plays small venues and we use just a simple pa setup... sometimes we used the previous bands pa so... its real simple... should i just keep to Whoring mids and just ignore any possible scooping? I just want more of an original tone, less of a classic rock massive mid tone if u know what i mean

For the few interested, "Dime's proto" has been repaired, finally. It's taken me almost a year, & tons of miles, but it was well worth the effort. The repair is ABSOLUTELY FLAWLESS - even inside the control cavity.

For anyone in or around New Jersey needing a QUALITY luthier/guitar repair shop, I have the place for you. They handle everything from simple setups, to decapitations and crushed bodies.

Give CJ a call, he'll take great care of you.

Dean & Randall kick F'kin ass!!!
by bassmantim71 on Sun Jan 13, 2008 7:23 am
Hey, bare with me, I had a few beers tonight.

Blacker Than Sabbath is a local Ozzy & Sabbath tribute that played thier first show in Montreal tonight to a full house and they kicked major ass. The brain-child of the singer Dee, I turned him down for the bass player job last year, and I'm kicking myself.

Anyway, Dee went out and bought a Dean Demonator bass and handed it to our buddy Dean (guitarist in my Pantera Tribute) and asked him to join. I filmed the show, they all did awesome.

Not only did that Dean bass rock the house, but I was suprised to see Dean using the two Randall R412JX cabs on stage with his bass rig. These were bought for the Pantera / Damageplan tribute.

These cabs are built for WAR!!! Not only could they handle the bass frequencies, my chest was pounding and the floors were shaking.

Again, I have to tip my hat to DEAN & RANDALL for making kick ass products.

SD Dimebucker pup, not bad at all...
by Anonymous on Sun Jan 13, 2008 5:02 pm
With my USA RB back in my possession I have been playing it quite a bit. I have read a lot of guff about the pup, however in my opinion it's not bad at all. I expected it to be hotter, trebly sounding and harsh - what I found was it's pretty subtle, and amazed me with it's sensitivity. I like it, I wouldn't say it's my favorite, but when teamed with a DiMarzio SD the tone is nice and even with a nice bite when provoked. It's a keeper for sure, thanks for reading.

PS these RB's are extremely well-made, I really dig the shape too. I bet Dean has sold a lot of these bad-boys, I can certainly understand why.

I'm sorry but i think it looks better than the USA version that was made for some music store, but honestly i think its ugly.... i might buy it for kicks... But the EMGs??? comon Dime never really cared for active pickups... idunno might be worth the buy to hardcore dean fans, but i'm a hardcore Dime 3 Dimeslime fan... id still like my vesion of the "Dean Dimeslime RB" to be made, lol...

Decking Out My Shadow!
by Conbud on Wed Jan 16, 2008 9:37 pm
Well I just got my Shadow back from the shop where I had a dimebucker put in place of the stock pup.

Now I just ordered the real deal Original Floyd Rose that I'm going to put in place of the Licensed Floyd.

Next up... I plan on changing out the stock neck pup. Now I'm not sure what to go with so I wanted to ask some of you. I was thinking about going with either the DiMarzio DP156 or the DiMarzio DP100 Super Distortion.

I wanted to know what some of you guys think I should go with for the neck pup? It don't have to be DiMarzio. What you think a Duncan Invader would sound like in the neck?

Or any other suggestions, I'm open to them?

Thanks
i may have something special in my randall rg100HT
by thenumber3 on Thu Jan 17, 2008 4:07 am
well i noticed that the reverb doesnt work but i was just messing around with distortion and happened to turn the reverb knob and kablam. its like a high end crunch, getting rid of the mud. adding gain crunch monster. my guess is that has been modded. but it brings out the high end crunch monster. and i havent even hooked up the furman and mxr yet. i was just using the metal zone....so maybe i have something that noone else has? but i dont know . someone respond and help me figure this out.

LIVE Dime tunings?
by atarilovesyou on Sun Jan 20, 2008 8:43 pm
We all know that the guy used many different tunings, but I've never seen Pantera live...my question is, did he just swap to a bunch of different guitars depending on their tunings? Or did he just pick one or three different guitars which looked different but were all in the same tuning?

Don't know why I hadn't thought of this earlier...although he had a bazillion guitars to choose from, usually guys do it to change up the look depending on the song. But with the tunings being different?...my guess is he'd just pick one or two different tunings and go from there.

But that's a guess...anybody who's seen Pantera a lot have an idea? Did he switch guitars that often during a show? Thanks.

Okay, so I just got my Warhead setup, and this is the first try at getting the "Dime tone". Much thanks to my buddy Dean aka DeanBag on this forum for the help.

*** Much thanks to Slay and all of you who contributed to the "Dime's Rig thread". I don't own much of Dime's gear, but we got very close by emulating his boost, eq's, etc..., on the Korg before going into the Warhead. ***

SO: cue up "Slaughterred" (Studio version) on your player, and listen to the first few bars, then click the recording of my rig and compare Twisted Evil

Hey anyone know about this Randall VMax?

I'm seeing it in Ebay and It says its a Warhead with a Tube Section

any opinions on this cause i like Dan Donegan and Scott Ian's sound too aside from Just Dime.

I only have 2 days before this auction would finish!!
Played an X2 Warhead tonight *long*
by '87 sherwood on Wed Jan 30, 2008 4:32 am
They have one at a local shop so I went out there to try it and see if I might trade one of my Warheads for it. After playing it I'd say it definatly sounds better than the standard Warhead by itself. I didn't find a better tone than I'm getting though. I'm running a pq4 in the loop of mine and the sound is killer. It's not Dime's sound but I want my own tone ayway. There's asking $1119 for the head and 850 for the Warhead 4x12. I only payed 1450 for my 2 mint Warheads, Gator 3 space Rack, and pq4. I think I'll be holding on to them.

What did they change about the X2 anyway besides the obvious? I realized tonight that I can run my Warheads at 4 ohms. I didn't realize that before tonight. I may be getting a new XL Randall cab soon and getting rid of the 4x12CXM that I have since v30's seem to be the standard. My CXM has Seventy 80's that actually don't sound bad to me.

Would I be able to sell this Dime amp: RG100HT ?
by bassmantim71 on Wed Jan 30, 2008 11:49 pm
Hey guys,

I'm just wondering if this is going to worth all of the leg work Confused

A local musician I know is selling his Randall RG100HT, apperently this is "the" Dime amp. I would have bought this for myself, but I just bought the original Warhead (which I love btw).

SO: I would have to go for a LONG-ASS drive to pick this thing up, test it, and I would definitely have to find some new knobs to replace on it.

Apperently the amp works/sounds/plays great, no noisy pots, and has a profesionally built footswitch (not the original). I'm not looking to bilk anyone, but if I do the work & can make a few bucks, I could finally afford the Randall cab that I want to buy. What to you dudes think? Here it is:

Hey I'm Onur (Owner)
I thought i'd turn this thread into my personal thread where i could review my current gear to help our fellow brothers here, maybe help them take decisions.

Exclamation This section is to be updated with new demo videos + audio recordings.

I'm going to let my thoughts and voice be heard in the Dimebag Darrell area with my completed rig. Randall's and Dean's are what we all are interested in so here it goes:
