by Hot Sauce on Thu Dec 04, 2008 4:11 am
I know some more of you guys are gonna be honoring Dime. Personally, i'll probably watch some of the Pantera Home Videos and I might write a song for him. I don't know yet. I've been meaning to write a tune for Dime, and I think next Monday would be the perfect time to do so.

Edited :
( this was my second post and I spent some time explaing myself up front .
I see now there is no need -you guys are pretty cool . )

I'll give you a little background info that's pertinent to the axe .
I saw Pantera live for the first time in 1992 , up in Poughkeepsie , NY. They were opening for Skid Row at the time. I was already a huge fan , which is what made me endure glam rock just to see them ! ( lol and JK , kind of )
I got to see them again on the far beyond tour , again in Manhattan a few times at fun places like the Roseland ballroom n chit.
The last time I would get to see them live would've been way back in '97 - I was having money problems and live shows just weren't in my budget. I was quite content with the CD's , the home video's and the lessons and articles in the guitar magazines. It made it feel like he was really a part of my playing , being able to see him and hear him. Getting lessons on technique , and never being ridiculed by his chops. He made himself ATTAINABLE , even if it wasn't in person.
Forward to 2004 , we all know what went down. I was crushed. I never lost someone so 'close' to me . I didn't even actually know him , but here I was - cryin' like a chick . It tore me up.
I tried to think of a way to honor the Man , and I decided :
I would go through my old mags , my ticket stubs , my CD covers , etc. and make a collage of Dime/Pantera stuff on a guitar.
I started with an Ebay body ( all I could really afford ) -
I made the pickup trim rings and the V tailpiece by hand out of Diamond plate. - get it - 'Diamond' plate - get it , ? anyway. I Painted the plate blue - put pictures of him on the pickups , the cavity control covers , ticket stubs along the top , ..... all sort of stuff.
I used a piece of a spiked bracelet that was broken in the pit at a Pantera show as the cord retainer. I bought a neck from Carvin and cut my own headstock shape on it , to make it unique.
I only used this guitar once on stage - the band I was in had a gig in Phoenix , AZ on 12/09/2007 , so I thought it would be fitting to use it then .
The guitar has flaws ( just like me ) but I really feel it represents how great he was to me.
I hope y'all enjoy looking at these pics.
Feel free to comment - good or bad.

Hey all

On this site, there is a clip for the Ride for Dime day....

Who are they ?
Or who is the singer ?

Any help much appreciated !

Cheers !
Almost 4 years...... RIP DIME NATE ERIN AND JEFF(MAYHEM)
by CliffDimeRandy on Sun Dec 07, 2008 11:51 am
being a former Moderator on damageplan.net I just want to say RIP dime erin nathan b erin and jeff(mayhem) you guys gave the ultimate price and you are honoured for it.

Mayhem we can see him in the video rushing to tackle the bastard who went for dime..sadly he lost his life aswell...

nathan (Susans son) who jumped onto the stage from the crowd to help dime. a true hero who died helping someone(He'll Never Be Forgotten)

Erin an innocent stagehand who died trying to help.

and Lastly Dimebag for the music and the laughs you gave us through the years. your music will live on in the history of Metal and you will definitly go down in the books as one of the best to ever pick up the guitar.... nobody could do those harmonic squeals like you could..

I think we can all remember where we were Dec.8th 2004 and Dec.9th 2004. Dime Was buried on My Birthday.... I had no reason to celebrate except mourn the lost of one of guitars greatests ever.

SO HERES TO YOU GUYS! YOU DID NOT DIE IN VAIN.

on a side note, if anyone from the damageplan forums is here like susan and hoochman cliffburton78 and all the other crazy cats that were on the forum, i just wanna say hey to you all and i hope your al doing great. its sad that the boards are down. we were like one big family.... but its great that dime lives on here.....

Im new here. I never had the chance to meet or see Darrell but he still had an influence on me, from picking up a guitar to how I treated others. Popping my nose in this forum, it's clear he had a big impact on alot of people.

Condolences & respect go to Vinnie, Rita & the rest of Darrell's
family & friends, as this time each year must be shithard to say the least. Cheers to everyone here who keep his memory alive & kickin!

My Funniest DIME story ..............
by PoolGuyFromHell on Tue Dec 09, 2008 12:06 pm
O.K. .... this takes place back in April of 1992 when a certain Guitar Hero of mine ( we'll call him "Dime" to protect his anonymity ) was playing a show in a town nearby.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
April 12th,1992 - Pantera is opening up for Skid Row at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center , in Poughkeepsie , NY. I was already a huge fan , and muscled my way right down front , right in front of Dime ( when he was working his pedals , otherwise the guy was all over the stage ). So in a move to shock the mostly female , mostly rabid crowd- ( you gotta remember - in '92 S.R. was HUGELY popular and Sebastian Bach could pretty much snap his fingers and chicks would FAINT out of excitement. )
So anyways - Dime decided it would be a good idea to play one song with his shorts pulled down , and his crankshaft floppin' around !
You should've seen the faces on the people around me Shocked Embarassed Surprised Shocked Embarassed Shocked ( I started gazing other places real quick like . I saw enough to know the guy was circumcised , that was plenty too much for me. ) Girls were covering their eyes , holding their faces in shock , Shocked -- me ? - I'm all like " What's rex up to way over there? " lol
But yeah.... the man whipped out his willy and kept right on playing , like nothing was going on.
There were a lot of people there that night , so I'm sure SOMEBODY else has to know this is true.
I've never heard of him getting in trouble for it , and all the other times I saw them play , he never did it again ( thankfully ).
One interesting sidenote though.... when they came back through on the FBD tour , they were headlining. Same venue and all , but when they went to play "5 minutes alone" , Phil announced that it was a dude from that show ( april of '92 ) that had inspired the song ? Got hurt and was suing them or some such nonsense...... anyone know if that's true , or if he was just getting us riled up ?????
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So anyway..... that's my funny Dime story ......
I just wanted to share it , hoping the mans memory could bring some MORE smiles to peoples faces .
If you were there and can back me up , I'd appreciate it.
Don't dare try to tell me I made it up , though. I was there . Twisted Evil

L8r y'all - getcha pull ! ( feel free to add your own funny Dime Experience to the thread! )

I had lost my black Dime RIP bracelet and could not find it for the longest time. I had looked for it a few times here and there. Anyhow, I had pretty much given up looking for it. Well, I happened to come across it on Sunday the 7th. I wasn't even looking for it and BAM - there it was. pretty weird that I found it just in time for yesterday, the 8th. Dime must have wanted me to find it.

RIP Brother

Funny story I thought I'd share.

Yesterday a guy at work tells me that he picked up his 3 year old son from daycare, straps him into the car seat, goes around and gets in the other door of his truck and his kid starts shouting "RISE! RISE!" Apparently he forgot to turn off Pantera before he put his kid in the truck Laughing

How I Found Out About Dime...
by ByDemonsBeDriven on Wed Dec 31, 2008 10:22 am
I first heard Pantera's music when like in the 1st or 2nd grade(99-00, I think?). My bro would always listen to them. I didnt know who they were till 4th or 5th grade, when I found about them I was like "damn, the guitarist is amazing". Come to find out thats Dimebag Darrell, so in 6th grade I asked my bro about Pantera, and he told me a story about how he worked at the 7-11 in Arlington, TX, down the street from Dime's house. He says "Dime walked in, bought some budweiser, and my friend Wayne said 'DO YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE MAN, YOU"RE DIMEBAG F***IN DARRELL', Dime just looked at him and said, yep."
On Dec. 9th, 2004, I was in the 7th grade at the time, and as I was walking out the door to catch the bus, I looked at the tv and the news was on and It said "Dimebag Darrell, guitarist for Pantera and Damageplan was shot and killed in Ohio yesterday" all I could say was "No." and then walked out, my friend who was into Pantera aswell said to me "I cant believe Dime's dead", I replied, "I know man, me neither". Me and him just wrote "R.I.P Dime" and Pantera lyrics on schoolwork.
We had to do a project for Texas History about a famous person, so I chose Dime, and made a PowerPoint with Dime pic, pantera lyrics and all I knew about him.
Dime will forever be my favorite guitarist.
I still cant believe he's gone. It just sucks.

So yeah that was my story on Dime.
