A random tribute to Dime!
by Hot Sauce on Thu Jul 03, 2008 6:34 am
Right now, I am so stoned. More stoned than i've ever been in my entire life. Long story short, I smoked a lot of marijuana tonight, and i'm high. I am honestly completely out of my mind. My body is numb, I can think for my self, but my brain...the very tip of it, actually...is sending bizarre waves out of and into my body. So! I thought of Dime, I don't know why? Out of the blue, I guess. Anyways, I thought about his love for Dean Guitars. So as a proud member of the DOA and the Dean Guitars Forum, I just wanted to come say...R.I.P. Dime, May he rock in Heaven forever.

I apologize if I wasted your time if you're sober (and even if you're not.) I have not smoked pot in a very long time, and tonight I got a few hits from a bong, and I am completely lost right now. Delete this thread if you find it annoying or if i'm just wasting space. Just don't ban me! Thank you guys. So go Dean Guitars!

by kingoflight on Sun Jul 06, 2008 1:41 pm
quick question not really to do with dime but his guitar is a good example.

See how his neck is sanded off down to the wood rest is paint and finish would you have to treat that bare piece with some ronsil or something like that ??

IF you do what kind of products would you use that would do the job and not effect the paint and finish.

RANDALL WARHEAD X2 SETTINGS PLEASE

Hello, this is my first post here though i ve been reading this forum for a while now. I just got a warhead x2 from ebay.de and i need some advice on getting a good sound out of it. Not necessarily dimebag sound (though that's why i bought this amp). So any settings are more than welcome. Also do you use any external eq or booster to shape your sound? Thanks a lot, this forum kicks ass.

Dime and weed
by Hot Sauce on Sat Jul 12, 2008 7:36 am
He sure loved weed! I can see why too... Razz
I just smoked a KILLER bowl. And I am high.

Let me tell you guys, Dime was a casual smoker of pot, and I am too. The guy had a sticker on one of his main guitars, a sticker of a a SWEET LEAF. I would do the same.

Do, this leads me to ask this:

Do you get drug tested if you're a nurse?
I mean, i'm a casual smoker (and I know some of you guys are too), and I fully support the decriminalization of such a good thing. I do it responibly, too. I don't get out and drive nor do I call people at 3 in the morning. I am a responsible smoker. But I just wanted to know if nurses get drug tested. I'm going to start taking classes next year.

Smoke weed and listen to Pantera/Rebel Meets Rebel all night long, baby!

Owner's Corner > Randall RGP1000 Preamp (Update!)
by OWNER on Mon Jul 14, 2008 11:29 am
Randall RGP1000

My first Vintage Randall amp is now in my hands and boy, is it great to see it's finally real! I opened up this thread for a review and to consult all RG amp owners.

@CrossOfIron: Thanks for the good packaging Very Happy it came in one piece, and actually arrived last month on the 22nd.. So its my friends fault i got it so late! Anyway, the calendar you chucked along rocks! i also noticed the CFH amblem you drew on the box Twisted Evil

Here is teH pr0n:
Image

Additional pr0n
Arrow The inside of the RGP1000
Arrow The RGP1000 alone with the cab

My Current Setup:

Dean "The Ownage" Razorback (+SH6 set)
Randall G2 Series RG75 Combo-amp
Randall RGP1000 Rack Pre-amp
Marshall 8008 Rack Power-amp
Randall RX412 Cabinet
Boss MT-2 "The Classic" Metal Zone

Everything seems great, I converted it to 220v with a external transformer, but it doesn't support grounding. The amp is in mint condition and i stripped it to see its date and all that. Turned out to be a 1989 Irvine amp. All parts original, no oxidation or rust!

Seems like one of the springs in the reverb tank had fallen off, so i replaced that, no problems.. Wink

Later on, when i plugged in to play, there was an enormous hum.. like a great "VvVvVvVv" sound at the background! It only happens when the footswitch is plugged. What could be the reason for this? Can it be a split soldering in the footswitch, or could it be because the amps not grounded? (If so, why only when the F.Switch is plugged??)

The amp wasn't as DEVASTATING as i expected it to be, in fact I'm getting more of the tone I'm after from my G2 or even my previous RX head amp! I mean, although i boost it with an MT2 pedal, i can't get much of that Sludgy/Punishing tone like Kirk's. I get more of a Fuzz like overdrive from this amp. I think these RG's are a bit overrated? Rolling Eyes I mean, the RG75 i have bites according to this amp! Mad

Are there any settings, upgrades, causes and advices you people can share?? That'd be really cool, because I'm in need of help!

Been jammin along to Pantera stuff on my ML's all day today and just stopped for a smoke break.

I put on "In this river" followed by Dime's take on Hendrix's "little wing"-i dunno why but maaaaan i'm feelin' it today.

Years on from what happened i can't help but feel that the world was robbed of a musical icon/hero and an amazing person.

I know that all of us know this already and i am kinda stating the obvious-but if anyone else out there is feelin it today[and of legal drinking age,of course Wink ],raise up a shot in honour of [in my opinion] the greatest guitarist that ever lived,"Dimebag"Darrell Abbott.

Darrell's Tour Rig 1997
by allovertonite on Mon Jul 14, 2008 8:21 pm
Well, I think this will probably put to rest alot of the speculation of what big D was using. I'm putting this out there for his hardcore fans. I have removed all of the serial numbers from the list. Sorry for that, but it would be a BAD idea to put that stuff out there.
Next up will be a list of his equip. from 2001. It is a little bit different.
This list covers SL1,2,3,4,5,6(not the normal SL6, which was 2 4X12's & a 2X15 in a frame)13,&14. He had a total of 16.
By the date (not visable in the picture) and the list I believe this to be the equip. taken down south (Mexico & SM).
When I found this my phone rang but I didn't get it. Later on I checked my phone to see what call I missed. For some reason I looked at what time it was that I had missed the call. It was 3:33.
Go figure.

Darrell's Tour Rig 2001
by allovertonite on Mon Jul 14, 2008 9:27 pm
So here you go. This list covers the relevant stuff, with the serial numbers removed. There is a total of 16 things (SL1 thru SL16). What I omitted were the majority of the stacks and work trunks.

Since you guys wonder so much...
I handled Darrells, Rexs, and Glazes guitars (among other duties)(well, it took Glaze a few years to let me touch ANYTHING of his) from Pantera's begining until Phil joined the band. Around that time I was in a band with Fourm member Rotting Corpse (whom Darrell introduced me to in his living room "Here's the bass player you've been looking for dude! You guys need to jam!) and we had gone our seperate ways.
I met Darrell the first day of Kindergarten (a meeting I will never forget!!!) and he and Vince lived down the street from me. Hence our growing up together. We remained good friends our entire lives and were still working together when he split the scene. As a matter of fact, he had asked me to come out and guitar tech for him the last week of the tour because "We've come full circle dude!!!".
I still work with Vince, and my Maw still lives in the same house.
AND I'M STILL JAMMING WITH CORPSE!!! HELL YEA!!!

BLOW THAT S H I T UP F U C K E R S!!!

I HOPE I DO YOU RIGHT DARRELL!!!

DUNLOP FUZZ WAH? Will it come out?
by toner on Wed Jul 23, 2008 8:52 pm
Was looking on their website, didn't see anything.

I guess I could make my own with a stereo switch DPDT (12 poles) so I have my true bypass and a true bypass effects loop in the way with a fuzz next to it so it switches on and off with the wah. Would have to be after the wah signal though unless I modded in a buffer into the wah circuit to put the fuzz signal before the wah.

I don't know how the dunlop one was designed, it's a matter of switching where the fuzz input/output wires come from, but I could make one.......

Randall RG80ES vs RG80-112SC
by kat on Thu Jul 24, 2008 12:43 am
This doesn't really feel like the right section for an amp question but you guys usually know your Randalls quite well.

Are the RG80ES and the RG80-112SC fairly similar? Obviously one is a head and the other is a combo. Is the Sustain-Boost switch on the 112SC the same effect as pulling the Presence knob on the ES? Any other differences?

Guitar Refinish !!!! Check it out
by Puppet on Fri Jul 25, 2008 12:42 am
Well for ages i didnt bought anything for my self.. so i decided to refinish my guitar ( just paint it) so itll look .. more interesting

I want to achieve a cool "Dime type" lightning bolt finish. but instead of plain background color, ill make dark and light blue stripes - and than make an effect so they will look.. a bit destroyed... a bit destroyed background + lightning bolts

Oh and one more thing.
This whole refinish process will be totally unprofessional, because i dont have enough $$ for a pro refinish. and i want to have my guitar all the time at a "playable" condition

So... Lets get it on !!!

The Little Blue Box Heard Round The World...
by allovertonite on Fri Jul 25, 2008 4:02 pm
Well, I have mentioned a few things here and there about the MXR 6 band.
In the thread "Dimes gold pants" (good one!) I briefly covered the "You
need a Marshall man, and I picked out a good one for ya. Lets go get it."
story. When Darrell went out to the garage & came back in with the "little
blue majic box" and handed it to me and said "Here, plug this in" because
"A Marshall ain't got no gain man, so try this". Well... Here it is.
Darrells MXR 6 band that he gave to me in 1985, 'cause "You need it man.
'cause you want to play an amp that ain't got no gain. I don't need it,
'cause I play a RANDALL". The slider # is 1377727, so that makes it a 1977
model. It probably came from his dads studio. There was one of those
tan/brown distortion boxes laying around too, but we never messed with it.
It didn't sound too good.

Dimebag is average and not influential at all, because he's dead he gets praised, if he was so good then why did Pantera never hit the big time.

some guy said this on another forum, and I was just curious what you guys here would say to him, since he obviously is a frippin tool.

How many records did Pantera sell anyway?

I was reading on another forum and someone said that Dime was endorsed by Ibanez at one time in the early 80s. It was said his sig model or model of choice was the Destroyer. You have the story behind this? Is that when THE guitar (you know which one I speak of) went in your hands? I assume after he won the Dean (DFH). I only ask this because I love to read the stories man.

Question regarding X2
by '87 sherwood on Thu Jul 31, 2008 7:01 pm
The manual I read online says not to run the gain higher than 7. And there is a sticker in some pics regarding the same statement which supposedly came stock on the amp. Will it self destruct killing all immortals within the kill zone if the gain is cranked and the volume is cranked?

I don't have one but I'm so board I read the pdf manual.
Weird Randall! kinda cool
by al on Thu Jul 31, 2008 9:39 pm
