GC Find of the Day
by metalmessiah17 on Mon Sep 01, 2008 8:24 pm
Went to Guitar Center the other day to pick up a pack of strings and help a buddy look for a new acoustic. I've been looking for a new wah, so I've made it a habit to look at the used pedals section of all the shops that I go into. Well, I happened to glance in the case and right on the top: MXR Six Band EQ.

The paints in a little rough shape, but everything else works fine, I just opened her up today to clean out a bunch of gunk built up on all the sliders. The kicker though: cost me a whole $20. Sure made my day Very Happy .
What is this black pedal in this DamagePlan picture?
by Anonymous on Mon Sep 01, 2008 8:30 pm
Hi

Can anyone tell me what the black pedal is in this damageplan pic. His black camo sig wah has one dial and the other black one has two dials like the slash type. Think it is a little hard to find. Like a 535 or 535Q or 535 ish tpye pedal but with two dials. Can anyone help me out?

Cheers

MXR 6 band Eq pedal,
Dunlop Jimi Hendix Systems JH-3S Octave fuzz pedal,
A Peterson Auto strobe tuner thing which I don't know alot about but I would appreciate any info,
3 channel selecter pedal,
A type of Grady Champion Remote True Bypass looper pedal thing (i'm guessing) The thing with the (1) and the (FX) on it. Can anyone give me any info?

New guitar and amp day (NDC) (Big Pron)
by '87 sherwood on Sat Sep 06, 2008 6:29 pm
After looking and searching high and low for about 3 years i finally found the guitar I've been looking for. The Washburn ST Pro in Transblack. I bought the guitar from Leatherneck who I highly recommend you deal with. He sent me pictures of the guitar and amp, a perfectly accurate decription of the gear and was in constant contact with me. We chatted in the Tiki bar a lot of times and he even called me to talk about the gear and just guitars in general. Let me tell you that was a very cool thing to do.

You might remember the ST Pro from such threads as "Slaytanics breakdown of an ST Pro". If you do Than you have seen the inside and outside of this guitar. The specs are very much the same as my Cross. it has a slightly larger neck than my Cross but the neck heal and hardware is all the same. It sounds WAY different than my cross though. Where the Cross has some igh end sizzle this guitar is all lower mids with a woody bass sound. I set the guitar up in tune with the Reinventing the Steel album using 9-50 Hi Voltage DR strings. Its a very good playing guitar and I consider it to be in mint condition. The playability is very good on this guitar and it holds tuning with a lot of whammy use. I did route the cavity out though as I could only pull up about 1/4 of a mm. I used a dremel with a routing tip and painted the back satin black somehow getting paint all over my arm but not on the guitar thankfully. I cut a towel and drapped it over the front exposing only the part I was painting. I might move the rear strap button since its higher than all my other guitars making it feel a little uncomfortable while slung. I'm going to position it to the same place as my other ML's. Make no mistake, this is a guitar I will have forever.

There's not much I can say about this amp that you probably don't already know. I haven't been able to crank it yet but the sound is very close to Dime's live tone. I have dialed in all the Pantera albums with the exception of Cowboys. That sound is so compressed. I get a good enough tone out of my 6505+ for that album it seems. I ran the head @ 16 ohm bacuse I don't need the full 30w at the moment and just for kicks I ran it at the same volume only @ 4ohms and the sound was better. It has that crunchy breaking up sound that Dime gets on Reinventing the Steel even at my low setting and that without any extra equing. The clean tone is actually pretty good to which I knda expected as it was very good on the Original Warheads I had. I really like the handles on the top corners of the head. Thats a nice touch. The footswitch is very quiet (more quiest tha my 6505+ switch). I don't think I'd use this amp in a cover band unless it was a Pantera cover band. I'll use it for Pantera, Down, White Zombie. Basically groove metal and staccato stuff. It a very punch amp that gets Dime tone right out of the box. The eq's are super sensitive too. That very cool because it has a lot of range. My ISP decimator works well with the amp quieting that standard Randall noise that let you know your about to kill small animals at close range.

Thanks again Scott (Leatherneck) for making this happen for me. Despite living in the United States he still shipped this Canada. So to the guys who won't ship north of the border I leave you with this; The gear didn't break or explode upon entering Canada, or self destruct during the packing or unpacking at the thought of itself leaving the States. I didn't get sick from receiving anything from the States and as far as i now Scott has no side effects from shipping to Canada either. So there's nothing to be afraid of. Shipping to Canada is NOT BAD.

Now onto the pictures:

i have one of these, and you guys seem kinda of interested in them, while i can't wait to get rid of it(i need something with a footswitch, and i play pop punk)

soundwise this amp is great, and mechanically, there is nothing wrong with the amp,no knobs missing, but the front has been scratched up pretty bad, and the top is covered in stickers(i'm gonna see how well i can get these off after school today)

i'd really love another head, one that has a footswitch as well, or i'll just take cash/paypal and go buy myself a new head

first $250(plus shipping if applicable) takes it

email me at herestolife1000@gmail.com

i read on harmony central(in a review) that if you don't have a footswitch, you can take a piece of conductive wiring, and let's say you just wanted channel 2, so you put one end of the wiring on the left bottom hole, and the other end on the right bottom hole

and then the light for channel 2 lights up and you only hear channel 2

and the same works for channel 1, but you put the wire in the top two holes

The stealth really feels awesome.... Having only played the C neck profile of the DFH i got to grips with the V neck nice an quick! Low action, fast playing neck.... The build quality isnt very good, some piant glitches, what looks like to be glue at the edges of the frets. Whats really pi**ed me off is the front tone knob is knackered, or something is.... The front pickups arent working properly.

Now all i have to do is fit that Floyd..... Razz
What a horrible day for me as a Dime fan
by jairic on Mon Sep 15, 2008 12:49 am
Friday evening I went to Guitar Center. I'm trying to get rid of my RGR1570 and I've been dying to get a Dean Dime of some sort. My local GC has had them on sale for $499, but when I went there Friday night, they were on sale for $380, and the Razorbacks were $600. Being a huge Dimebag fan, I was elated that I had been fortunate enough to find this deal on payday none the less. I checked my wallet to be sure and I was around $40 short. My emotions got the better of me and I asked about trading my RGR (that I bought for $850) in for the Dime-O-Flame, but since it was a "blowout" they didn't take trades or layaway. So, to put my mood conservatively my weekend was ruined. I haven't even been able to find Dime-O-Flames going for $380 even used on ebay....

Worst luck ever~!

But if anyone is near Rockford, Il swing by GC if you want a great deal on a Dean.

Cowboys from Hell (Classical cover)
by Trashed on Wed Sep 17, 2008 4:49 pm
Quote:
Pantera and Sepultura have both been covered in very different ways recently, as British pop group Spiritwo has revealed their own rendition of the Sepultura staple "Inner Self" and violinist Rachel Barton Pine has translated the Pantera classic "Cowboys From Hell" into the world of classical music world. You can check out videos of both covers below.

"Inner Self" comed from Sepultura's breakthrough album "Beneath The Remains" which was released in 1989. The album was the bands first release which allowed them to tour outside of Brazil.

"Cowboys From Hell" comes off Pantera's 1990 album of the same name which also saw them break into the limelight and gain international recognition.

Ok, I was just wondering something. Dimes early deans had the les paul angle because they had the tune-o-matic bridge. I guess this is why when he put a floyd on the dfh and the fbd it did not require a recessed floyd rose cavity because of the height of the bridge and the angle of the neck. After moving to WB guitars all his guitars had the recessed floyd, and even after he moved back to dean, they were recessed. If dime loved the dfh the most, why did he go with a different floyd set-up(recessed)? It seems to me that if he loved the dfh's setup, he would have demanded that all his custom guitars be set up in the same fashion, with the neck having that lp angle and non recessed floyd. Just seems like it would be a major factor in his playing style since the dfh was his fave. any thoughts?

So, my buddy (also my old guitar player) calls me to tell me that he'll be visiting Montreal from Myrtle Beach (last week), and he's gonna make me a cool "one off" gift (knowing I'm a Dime fan). I said I'd throw a few buck$ his way to make some extras, but he won't take money from me. He made two..., so I have one, and I decided to send the 2nd one to Texas. For years now, I've wanted to drive my USA built motorcycle back to it's homeland, South of the border. So today was the day. Here's the journey in pictures:

2 small custom gifts made in Myrtle beach by my buddy Mitchell. No pics available..., but here's some pics of me and Mitch. Mitch made the gifts, he's in the middle:
