Dime, your ROCK is timeless!
Well, a treasure for me. I made this my junior year of HS. I unintentionally did this for the 1 year anniversary of Dime passing. I just wanted to do this and after a few weeks realized that the anniversary was coming up so I thought it was very appropriate. Originally my shop teacher forbid me from making this because he wasn't a shop teacher to "promote a fvcking druggy". So I stole the wood from him to make it and did it in front of him every day. Next year I just felt like putting in the MITS contest just for the hell of it. I got 2nd place in regionals and honorable mention in state. Very much to my surprise. Oh, and 1st place for both was a kid in my class. He made a hand carved 3D model of a rattlesnake coiled and in mid strike, mouth open and everything. It was fvcking incredible looking and looked very much real. I was pretty proud to be in 2nd place to that.
Anyways, I started this as just a cool little thing for me. I took 2 planks of walnut, glued them together and planed it to thickness. Cut to size and routed the edge. No sanding went into this at all. It was meant to be a quick little thing. Looking back I really really really wish I had put 110% effort into this and made it look the best possible. Next up I had the 2 page poster of the original artwork from a guitar world magazine. I taped it onto the wood and traced it with carbon paper. Then proceeded to carve it out with a pencil grinder. Little things like the confederate flag behind him and the writing from his grave were touches I added. This took weeks to make, that pencil grinder made your hand cramp so quickly it was hard to use. It was fun working with it but I sure don't miss it.
The next year the pencil grinder returned again where I made a heart around the same size again out of walnut. It's was a 1 year dating anniversary gift for my now wife. Front of it had the lyrics to our favorite love song "I Remember You" by Skid Row carved into it. The back and sides had "I Love You" carved in 33 different languages. She keeps that on her work desk to this day. Off topic to this but it was a similar project so I just added it. Sorry, no pics of this.
I'd like to finish it up a little eventually. I want to get the router base for a dremel for inlay work and go over everything to make the depths uniform. Then sand it all nice and smooth. Not sure what to do with the edges but I'm thinking of cutting off the routed edges and glue on a contrasting wood like ash.
What do you guys think?
-1 for tone but +1 for effort hilarious vid inside

How did Dimebag not think of this

So I was drinking some Crown earlier and I got the genius idea that the Crown bottle tops would make for awesome guitar knobs, and low and behold they fit perfectly over the Dean knobs. I'd have to glue them on to make it permanent, but I don't know if I'm ready for that kind of commitment. But I thought it was cool idea so I took a pic and thought I'd share.
