Warhead Versions American vs Korean
by BustUp on Mon Aug 13, 2012 8:30 pm
I came across a couple of different versions of the Warhead, and I thought I would throw up a post up with some pics and thoughts. In picture 1 from left to right is a Korean Warhead, Korean Warhead, and American Warhead. The first Korean version on the far left has the green power switch on the front. It has the largest chassis, but the smallest chassis box.
The second Korean version in the middle strangely enough has the power switch on the back with a chassis and chassis box size similar to the American version. However, the transformer and all of the components are similar to those found in the Korean version with the green power switch on the front.
Lastly, the American version has the power switch on the back, and has a transformer and components that look different from those found in both Korean versions. In my amateur opinion the transformer and components found in the American version seem to be of higher quality. Both Korean versions have a push pull gain knob, but the American version does not.
Both Korean versions suffer from the same problem. Intermittently they will fail to pass the signal. Tapping on the faceplate at times helps bring the sound back, and at other times I wonder whether or not the amp is completely dead. My best guess for a diagnosis would be cold solder joints.
In regards to their sound both Korean models sound the same tonally. They are extremely loud. They start roaring at about 3 o'clock on the volume dial. The American version on the other hand doesn’t start roaring until about 9 o'clock on the volume dial, but the American version has much more gain by far. Even with the push pull knob pulled out and the EQ boosting the bass all the way, the Korean model just cannot match the gain and chug of the American version. The American version, however, is unable to match the max volume of the Korean version.
