WORK HISTORY
1998-Current Bass Player, Mark Wills
Mark Wills has been signed by Mercury/Nashville since 1996. Mark's first album, self titled Mark Wills, landed him his first two top five singles, "Jacob's Ladder" and "Places I've Never Been". The second album, Wish You Were Here, went both Gold and Platinum and produced songs such as "I Do" (Cherish You), "Don't Laugh At Me", and "Wish You Were Here",
which all went number # 1.
Mark's current album, Permanently, went Gold in the 3rd week of it's release
and produced his 4th # 1 song,'Back At One'.
The Academy of Country Music named Mark Wills as the 1999 New Male Vocalist of
the Year and Mark has received several other nominations in different categories
from the Country Music Association and the Music City News awards. People young
and old alike are able to relate to Mark and his music. This gives Mark airtime
on radio stations of other genres, a perk not every country artist is able to
enjoy.
PERSONAL HISTORY
Birthday: October 6
Marital Status: Single
I have been playing bass for 19 years. I got my first job two weeks after finishing
high school, playing clubs throughout the South until 1988. At that time, I went
to work for Tom Wopat, star of the television series "The Dukes of Hazzard",
for over 2 years while he pursued a career in music.
It was while I was traveling all over the US, Canada, and Europe, entertaining
thousands of people, that I knew this was a part of the music industry I wanted
to be involved in. Doing television shows such as "Austin City Limits" and "Nashville Now" brought
me closer to my goals in music. After that, and playing a year and a half at
Church Street Station in Orlando, Florida, I took a gamble on pursuing a group
deal on Giant Records with a group called Southern Xposure, which fell through
one day prior to shooting the first video. That is when I was offered the job
with Mark Wills.
For the last two years I have made several appearances on TV shows such as The Grand Ole Opry and Prime Time Country. I was on the 1999 George Strait Country Music Festival tour, performing along side such artists as Martina McBride, Wynonna, Tim McGraw, The Dixie Chicks, Neal McCoy, Merle Haggard, George Jones, Reba McEntire, and many more.
