Fresh from Short Guitars is a Custom LP for me. I introduce to you the "Holy Diver Les Paul Custom". It was born on good Friday and I asked my girlfriend to marry me on that day. Thank fcuk Daniel glued the neck to the body that day. I just check the head stock for the day I need to buy flowers on.
Specs:
Honduras Mahogany / Thick maple top Highly figured
No chambering, no swiss cheese all SOLID. Weighs 9.9lbs
Color: Black Stain sanded back and dyed red. I call it blood stain
Transblack back
Pickups for now: Slash Alnico Pro II set
Pots: 500K Audio taper / Orange drop cap .022uF vintage braided wire though out.
Real pearl inlays (extra figured) / Ebony board (sanded super extra smooth)
Creme binding body and neck.
Rolled binding with nibs on fret ends
Black hardware / black chrome top hat knobs
Tone Pro's bridge and tail piece with locking studs for the tail piece (never seen those before on any other guitar, the studs clamp down hard on the tail piece and than the allen screws on the tail piece tighten it further )
Neck: C-shape Slightly smaller than a Gibson Traditional but larger than my AFD.
Sperzel locking tuners / Tusq nut
Schaller strap locks
Short Guitars picks in case
SKB bomb proof case
This is the guitar that Nigel Tufnel is talking about when it sustains so long you can go for a bite and come back to the note still going. Ahhhhhhh~~~~~~~
For an experiment I bought a set of Slash Alnico Pro II to put this axe head to head with my AFD. Both guitars are wired exactly the same. I rewired the AFD with new audio taper 500k pots. My Holy Diver has vintage braided wire while the AFD does not.
The Holy Diver feels like and old friend. This will be my number 1 axe that I am sure of it. The feeling I get from playing it and the tone is second to none in my collection. The weight and balance are exactly what I want in an LP. The look just screams evil to me. The frets and fingerboard are the smoothest you can get on any axe The only other axe's I've seen with such glassy smooth feel is the Blue Short Guitars LP and my TC ML. I may decide to change the pickups even though this guitar sounds different than my AFD. I feel like I want to try a Super Distortion set or a Duncan Distortion set.
Hows it sound you ask? It has more clarity and more "punch" than my AFD. Probably due to the Ebony board. The bottom end is not as spongy as the AFD for some reason. It is tighter sounding than the AFD despite having the same alnico II magnets and pickups. The mids are slightly sweeter on the Holy Diver LP as well as the cut. Maybe due to the solid construction I don't know. I just play it and know what I hear.
The guitar plays as well as any USA axe I have played. In a blind test I promise you would not feel or tell the difference. in a non blind test you'd be hard pressed to tell any difference if it Gibson on the head.
I already ordered a custom quit top Explorer from Daniel and I'm so glad I did. Sadly I'm third in line now. He has Steins guitar next and a quilt top explorer for a local army fellow. Granted he does do a lot of concurrent activity. Scotts guitar is already coming along very nice.
Thats it for now. If you have any question you know I'm always kicking around.
Cheers

Yo, Dennis... You know what we're all waiting for: video/audio pron of this badboy! And instead of Darth Vader, you have to be Dr. Zoidberg this time to match the red! |

Thanks for all the kind comments guys. I'm working on some nice videos at the moment. I've been super busy and every minute I'm not working on the house or at work I'm playing the s#%t out of this new axe. I wish you could all come over and try it out. The neck is so comfy and easy to play on. I really love the sound of the pickups. I'm amazed at how much more punchy and purcussive this guitar is compared to the AFD. Im going to get Daniel to order me some clamping studs for my AFD stop tail. It'll still sound loose due to the rosewood but that the AfD tone after all.
Stay tuned. More to follow. |

Holy sheep s#%t. That thing turned out beautiful. I actually had the opertunity to hold it during the buffing process and this instrument is built like a battleship.
The funny part to this is I don't play but I'm ordering one of these custom guitars.
Great photos, great write up and an out of this world build. I'm more than impressed. Congrats to both of you. |

Yep. Sustainiac in the neck, GFS crunchy pat in the bridge. I wanted to test the crunchy pat against my Distortions (SD Super D, Dimarzio Super 3, Dimarzio Distortion and a Duncan Designed Distortion). |

They are both very awesome guitars. I'm really glad I payed half on my Explorer build already. I tried a Gibson Explorer and didn't like the neck at all. Now if i could only choose pickups for it. \
Kabong welcome to the thread and the forum. Thank you for the great post. Make sure you like Short Guitars on facebook if you have an account. |

Than you'd be pissed about pollen and reflections. I was wiping the guitar between pictures it was so bad out there. |
