I have (had) one of these. I've never seen any mention of a pearl-inlayed "flying pig" on an "arrowhead" shaped headstock. I will try to post an image.

I'm very curious.

Good call Gene, the pig inlay still baffles me though. Perhaps a David Gilmour sig Razz

OK, here it is. Please don't tell me it's a copy. I bought this thing in 1988 used and old. I had never heard of a Dean guitar before. It said "DEAN" in capital letters on the headstock. The word had a gentle arc that was high in the middle and lowest on both ends. Just below it was a flying pig right in the middle of the headstock. It wasn't like the "floating" pig from Pink Floyd, this one was "cartoony" and had wings. It reminded me of a BBQ place kinda.

Sorry about the quality of the images. These were taken almost 25 years ago.

Thanks for your attention. I hoped that you Dean experts might have an idea.[/img]

Dude, the pics are upside down and sideways and the guitar is a righty being played lefty and it's giving me frippin vertigo. Laughing

Regardless, that looks legit, to me. There's no faking that body. Maybe a super duper custom order or a re-neck?

Yeah, I'm a lefty who plays strung right-handed. I remember liking it because the cut-out was perfect for a lefty...although my left elbow would turn the knobs. I flipped them all around to get a different perspective on the thing. Try to ignore the background. Very Happy

Me too, that's why I'm here. I don't have it anymore. I sold it to a guy who died years ago. I lost the thread.

There was I guy I knew in local band in the high desert that played a Dean Z with a Explorer Headstock. He broke the Dean Headstock and just said "screw it." So undoubtedly your guitar is not a fake. Somebody just replaced the broken headstock with a Flying V headstock.

What a great story. Too bad the guitar is gone. It would be cool if someone reads this and points us to its whereabouts. Welcome to the nut house man.

Yeah, the stop bar tailpiece was the first thing I noticed about that guitar. Weird.

Not a Hamer. Only ML they have EVER built was/is Dime's.

I completely missed the bridge setup. Now I'm inclined to think this inot a Dean without a clearer shot. Somewhere, this guitar awaits the internet with a clearer image to view. Twisted Evil Makes me hope it surfaces. Cool

What is the round image on the body of the guitar that is opposite the input jack?

Back in 1992, I was getting a custom ML built for me from Music Works in Redondo Beach CA. Unfortunately after 2 years of waiting the body was only completed, and I cancelled the guitar and got my money back. I was promised a completed guitar within a year. The one I ordered was going to be with a BFH, and a Stop tailpiece, because i don't care much for string through body. I took the $500 down payment and then bought me the 56 LP Jr, and 60 Special.

im not in the know but im inclined to believe that anyone with the knowhow to fix a broken HS or set a new neck can set up a hardtail bridge no prob. ill place a gentlemans wager youll find the holes for the string through between those pole pieces.

It's a sticker.

Thanks for all of your input, guys! I hope it surfaces as well! After this little correspondence, I'm inclined to investigate it further. Maybe I can land it. BTW I don't recall if it had the "through the body" string holes.

flip it over and look for holes under where the hardtail is placed. even filled holes would leave small marks unless a real pro did the mod.

I still do Brad and Ron. They are in my closet. Those are something I'm not parting with. My big Mistake was parting with the 57 TV model I had years ago. Those things are going for close to $20K now.

Buy a new one, and then stick a an EMG in it. I wouldn't even put a regular HBer in it. P90s are cool on those old 50s guitars.
