I love my Deans, but I've been holding a trigger for Gibson for years.
Going for a classic custom but I'd like some input on the finishes.
I like the antique natural but am I correct in assuming that since the top is not bookmatched, the grains could be less beautiful rather more like a high school gym floor? I guess the same grain ifyness applies to the wine red finish too.
Next choice, and this is a finish I've never liked really, gold top. I don't know what it is but I just like it on this model.
What do you think will look best? |

I like the Cream because it reminds me of Randy Rhoads Custom and I've seen them in person and they look better than the stock pics, but I like the Goldtop a lot also. |

yeah I totally see that. I haven't seen it in person but the pictures look like alpine white as apposed to cream. I was hoping it was truly more cream in person.
I'm now not even considering the ebony. I've had a bajillion black guitars and as far as a custom goes, ebony and silver do not mix for me. I can darken the board easily but the hardware its just gotta be gold. |

Every Classic Custom I've seen in person or in pics from members over at MLP, the board is WAY darker than the stock picthures. My baked maple board is pretty dark too and I haven't even oiled it yet. |

Ha ha ha to each there own, I'm a bit of a tool sheep and hated the finish for many years but it kinda grew on me. I'd go with the cream as long as it wasn't alpine white or somthing. |

i think its definitely between the natural and gold tops. i sort of dig the cream but i like the natural backs of the other two.
trigger finger is getting hard to keep steady...
must......decide.....can't......decide..... |

I voted natural antique (darkburst or violin burst) with a dark back as in brown. I am so sick of Les Paul's with cherry red backs. They are a dime a dozen
Antique natural is a classic look for any guitar, especially Gibson's
In the end, get what appeals to you. The important thing is that you will have a great Gibson regardless of finish. I think paint makes any guitar look ordinary and I am definitely not a fan of goldtops, especially when they age to a greenish gold |

you are out of order. i move for a mistrial. your honor, what the prosecution has failed to realize is, that there is NO lemon burst option.

Yeah,
I was going to suggest Sweetwater because you can see the actual guitar, that is where I got my Classic Plus so I could pick the top and a nice dark baked maple board, but they do not have the natural listed anymore.
Wonder if it's because of settling the lawsuit they are no longer going to used baked maple or because the model really isn't selling?
I want another Classic Plus in Heritage Cherry, I wonder if I should grab one now before it's too late???
I was holding off hoping next year for '13 they'd add a Gold Top finish to the line.
MF still has the Naturals Classic Customs. |

My bad, I have a MF card so I utilize the 12 months No Interest...
Which I am seriously wondering now if I should use on a Heritage Cherry Classic Plus, but I want to SEE it...I'm picky about my tops and maple...
I really do not want or need to buy another freaking guitar at this point, but it would make my life easier in the long run and these may be highly desireable in 50 years
I need to make some phone calls tomorrow... |

im not so worried about that. a board can likely be saved with oil but a top is sort of locked in ya know? |

True about the tops, but I don't want to take that chance on the board either, I've seen some pretty light boards. I want mine nice and dark |

I like the cream over a gold top on any guitar. Not a fan of gold tops. But afterall you should get what ya want as you would be playing it. Good luck in your choices. I too got the email from zzounds on their 12 month pay option but alas I still have no job so I can't use it. |

can you believe today i woke up with a f-u gison attitude?
im seriously not even sure if/when im getting one. i keep weighing out my pro's and con's...
they keep shutting my gas down.
i think the reason im for the gold tops and natural with the exception of wine red (eww) is because or the natural backs. i just think its hot. |
