Neither one schooled the other... It's all a matter of preference. As soon as we can stop wondering who the better player is we can enjoy the art instead of thinking of playing as a competition. |

I personally think Slash destroyed him. |
I agree blues is supposed to have taste and feel not shred a million notes i swear u can hear zakk playing the same runs over and over boring me to death. If i was there i would have played some soulful tasty licks with a flash run here and there.looked to me like zakk was just trying to out shred slash playing as fast as he can cause ive seen zakk play blues and i know hes capable of tasty licks. But usually its just a bunch of over playing the same licks over and over.if u think im full of it watch this zakk video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nUHfihk4-Y&feature=related
if u can sit through this whole video or wankathon ur a better man than i!
here watch this vid this kid is much more tasteful than zakk maybe the kid could give zakk a lesson.Seriously listen to zakks solo then listen to this kid with ur eyes closed and tell me what sounds better.Shed is cool but taste is king.
take away all the image, hype and use ur ears and tell me which sounds better.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUe1Sr-4LBk
Sorry to all the zakk fans but it is what it is. |

You're not offending anyone in reality. True Zakk fans don't care what people say. You could have said the same thing about B.B. King or Eric Johnson. You don't speak for the guitar playing world It's all personal preference.
Most people only focus on lead playing as a gauge of a player's ability which is a really bad thing to do. Unfortunately the world of guitar enthusiasts can be shallow in that respect (not pointing the finger at any of you). If you look at Zakk's song writing, rhythm playing, chicken picking, piano playing and acoustic ability as the majority of his playing then you can look past some of the nonsensical noodling and you'll realize he's an exceptional talent.
Slash is the same way. He has his own style and is a very good blues player, that being said he's not the cleanest of players. If you watch him live there are times he can be quite sloppy, whereas Zakk can do the same thing night after night with precision. It doesn't make one better than the other at all.
My favorite modern blues player is Ritchie Kotzen and you don't see anyone comparing him to Slash or Zakk but in terms of ability he could decimate both of them with one hand...
It's not a competition. Neither one of them is a better player. Some of you could be considered "Better" players than some of these guys by others. Gauging ability kinda kills the beauty of the music. Taste and opinion are just personal. |

to me zakks overall composing skills and songwriting make him a great player if i was just focused on his 20 minute guitar solos or application id say less.zakk is a great musiscian and a good hearted dude and has had his hand on making some great music over the years. |

Everyone is entitled to their opinions.
That being said, Gary Moore would've spanked the snot out of both of them. |

I love them both! Apparently I'm not alone or they wouldn't have Gibson and Marshall endorsements. Apples and oranges as far as players go. Theres a vid out there of Ozzy and friends where Zakk, Slash, and Gus G. play paranoid. I can't follow any of the links above at work so I don't know if its one of them already mentioned, but it's worth taking a peek at. |

I agree with lanning, ive seen both live several times and slashes most recent band and zakk is way more accurate, i guess it is a matter of taste, as slash has the feel thing, altho zakk has it in spades too. and zakks tone would eat slashes last time I saw both live. anyway who cares some kids on the road would claim their hondas are bettr than my gto..idgaf |

I'm in a bad place and melancholy, but don't know why except maybe it's the fault of another person that may or may not have caused me emotional or physical or financial pain or maybe it's because of her friends and their hateful thoughts and words ALLIGATOR ALLIGATOR ALLIGATOR AAAAAAAAAAA LI GAAAAAAA TOR Where was I? Oh yeah I was rambling on about what might be going on WAAAAAAAAAAH in my head, which is a scary place to begin with because I wasn't hugged enough as a child and had some potty training issues where I often made the stinkpickle in the pants during class and the other kids hated me for it, even though I was smarterfastercooler than them (except for the smelly britches part) and they were all just jelly for it hold on it's time for me to pose one out here and toss off for a bit Twiddly Twiddly Twiddly deedle deedle deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeedle dooooooo maybe I'll just get hammered and drunk dial her to see if she'll take me back, m'kay? |

One of those moments where music sounds great and feels even better. Love that clip! Thankfully, I've had the pleasure of seeing both of these guys live. |

different brains on different trains, I love them both.
I am from a much older generation . I respect all talent but the old school stuff was so melodic. Not so much shred as now but lots of heart.
I got this clip it is a cover but for the sake of time I didn't put the whole original song up. Scorpions/Uli and MSG/UFO , Bill Nelson long been my favourites even though most of what they did in 70's is completely over looked and somewhat irrelevant now.
This guy does a decent cover of the solo , tone is not spot on :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxttuulR104
I have seen scorpions with Matias but that was 10 years after Uli. I have seen Uli but he didn't cover any Scorpions back then. This is 2013 and he still has it. :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EotlrAp2j78
Sail of Charon middle section scale is crazy and he explains as though mortals could play this.
