HOLY SH1T.... That's all I have to say. I found a used one in mint condition at my local Soldano dealer today. I may have to divert from the H&K and get this. We ran it with the internal speaker but then put it through a Marshall 1960A and put an OD in front of it and I just about crapped my pants! It's 20 watts but it's really loud! |

Youtubed. Me like. And that was straight in with single coils. I can only imagine how ballsy it got goosed all to %$#@! with OD and blackouts \m/ |

Low wattage Soldanos rip it hard. I would buy one of these if I came across a good deal. I'd buy this USA made amp over imported stuff. Be sure to post up your usual video review. \m/ |

I bought it...
Dual Mercury Magnetics tranny, 5 AX7s (one is hiding behind the speaker), and 2 EL84s with a 12" Eminence Legend. Good stuff inside.

I wouldn't want any amp I need to put an OD in front of to sound good.
Oh well, enjoy. |

soldanos rule man congrates on the amp. As for Overdrives, Unless you dont know how to tweak or have an extremely compressed amp already like an engl, I dont see how adding an OD wouldnt help most amps regardless of gain. |

It's not about gain or tweaking the EQ. If your amp sounds bad without an OD it will sound bad with one...
Like I said before just watch this.

Adding an overdrive is all about flavoring and seasoning the tone. Like Lanning said you need a killer foundation of glorious tube tone to start with. Then add a little spice to taste. Bake at 450 volts. And enjoy. |

I never said I needed an overdrive to make it sound good.
Here is some schoolin' for you.

I used to have one... doubt you'll be school me on 'm.
I've also had plenty of Soldanos including a Decatone I'm presently selling. |

And I'm not trying to "School" you. I posted a video by a very accomplished guitarist, producer/engineer who is well respected explaining why an OD is used in this fashion. He can "School" you because I know you won't listen to anything I say. But if you can't learn from him then you're not even worth arguing with.
I did take a look in the amp to find that all the preamp AX7s were replaced with AT7s by the previous owner. I put a Roberts Red Retrovalve in V1 and it immediately came to life. Tomorrow I'm going to replace V2-V4 with 12AX7s. I'm sure the amount of on-tap gain will be greatly increased. |
