Any of you guys use an iPad for practice? I as wanting to get some sort of interface for my laptop, wondering if Amplitube on an iPad sounds the same as on a computer?

Also can it be run into a PA? I hate using headphones so would like to be able to play it on something louder than just an iPad.

Get JamUpPro... Trust me on this. I have the iRig interface (the little barrel one). You can run it to a PA if you have the adapter to go from 3.5mm to 1/4" stereo or "Y" to split.

Very interesting. I'll have to look more into that one, I see you can run a 4 button stomp box into it and also an expression pedal.

Any chance running it through a PA would be good enough for jamming in a small bar? Would be very convenient to not have to haul amps around in addition to the PA if I wanted to bring an electric for a few songs. Or is it best left for practicing?

It's my understanding that JamUp will work just fine for what you want to do.

I like Amplitube because I'm familiar with it, but I may try the JamUp program eventually.

Yeah I'm for sure going to have to get something like this. I guess I should get an iPad first though.... Gonna go maybe get one this weekend. Or something.

I can't wait 'till they release something for Android. It might take a while but I'm sure it'll be kickass.

I use the Ampkit adapter, it works with all the other programs just fine. I use Amplitube and Garageband all the time for practice. Haven't tried JamUpPro but I'd like to check it out.

I like Amplitube just fine. Lanning needs to rock the Brutalz, so I understand why he doesnt dig on the IK stuff. The severe high gain models arent awesome. but I use the Fender pack, and some of the Marshall models, and they are great. good hard rock and classic metal tones. I havent gotten motivated to try JamUp yet, but I will. I am sure its awesome.

From what I've been reading just about any of the amp sims will work on just about any interface right? Main reason I'm wondering about the interface is I'd like to pick one up tomorrow if I pick up an ipad, I know best buy carries iRig. If JamUp is better I'll wait and order it, but that plays against my impatience Laughing

I wish they made these for android too but since they don't, I'll get an ipad.

I've been talking with some guys at IK about this for a good year, and they have ZERO plans for an android release. They said the audio latency is to slow for their liking, so until they make it better, they're not devoting any time to it.

I was seriously bummed.

The best interface you can get is the Apogee Jam, because that goes into your iPad's digital input as opposed to using the analog headphone jack. Just for practice though I'm not sure it's worth the extra expense over the iRig or Ampkit.

I ended up nuying iRig. Is there a way to get sound through my iPad speakers or do I have to use external speakers or headphones?

So far Amplitube seems pretty good, I only have the free download right now but it's pretty cool. Gonna have to try some more amps on it.

Also downloaded garage band and it blows hard, no dynamics on that one.

I gotta get some speakers or something though because I hate headphones.

It's all in the use and experience. Garageband is great if you have it set up properly. Also you need to make sure you adjust your input signal so it's not clipping to get the best sound. The biggest issue with Amplitube is you can't insert effect into the effects loops of the amps. So delays don't sound as good unless you run them after a distortion, or on a clean amp.

While on the topic of iOS devices.... I've been using the Digitech IPB-10.

If you are not familiar with it; it's like the rp1000 but uses the iPad as the interface. It has better processors or more processors then the rp1000.

You have visual representations of pedals, amps, and cabs, and can tweak them to your heart's content using the iPad.

It can replace all your pedals.

Nope. Need an external sound source. I use a little 2.25" speaker, and it sounds really good. Or I use earbuds.

This is what I use.

I got a pair of cheap speakers but they weren't very loud at all, couldn't hear crap. Today found a 3mm to split RCA cable that I forgot I had. Hooked it up to my stereo in my living room, very nice, especially when I start cranking the volume.

So far, the "lead" amp kicks ass, I can roll off the volume on my guitar and it cleans right up, dime the volume and she rips. The Soldano sounds pretty good, a bit fizzy I gotta play with settings. The rest I haven't tried much.
