So after playing for frippin 10 years I finally joined a band. Met up with them originally a few months back and officially joined a few weeks ago. Basically right when I joined they had landed a gig headlining for this 21st. We don't know our setlist quite yet but I've been cramming and learning a song or two per week and have 8 down decently so far with a bit under 3 weeks before the show.
So I've got some anxiety about not only making sure I know the songs in time, but also on performing in front of my first crowd (hell.. i've hardly ever even played for a friend). But the band is fun as s#%t, we sound awesome, and there's a whole show going on which takes a ton of pressure off me, so I'm not really feeling much.
Just wanted to update you guys... see if you had any advice or suggestions for these next few weeks and heading into my first big gig! |

Chart the songs out on paper, your brain learns faster that way. Plus you can tape them to the top of your amp head for quick reference. no one will see them from the crowed. Just put a sweat rag there give the brow a wipe and take a glance. Thats not cheating its just smart especially on a rushed gig.
stand up when you practice them, I know that sounds odd but your arm and hand go to a different position when sitting down and your muscle memory will screw you up on certain things you may have not played that way before once you stand up and play.
Make sure you set your pedals or floor gear the same when you practice the way you will playing out.
Above all have fun, enjoy the rush... and dont frippin drink or get high before the show. Nerves are a natural part of getting out there we all get them to some degree or another learn to master them not numb them at the expense of your playing. |

Often on the first few shows, I notice bands get excited and play the songs really fast..., it's easier to keep the tunes in the pocket when you are aware of this.
Prepare well and enjoy yourselves!!! |

thanks man. the songs are heavily sample based so the drummer has a click going the whole time along with the samples going as well.
just talked to our lead guy.. looks like we're trying to fit in 11-13 songs! I've got 7 so far... gotta get moving... |

Deep breaths, don't take yourself too seriously and don't be upset if you make little mistakes because the crowd rarely if ever even notices it. HAVE FUN. |

Congrats on the gig CJ but as for that posted vid, ummm that was just straightup weird
Fire whoever produced that immediately
Dude singing has a decent low voice but that falsetto could get annoying after a bit (forget aspirations of King Diamond). I just hope the lyrics (and vids) to your other songs are a bit less alternative lifestyle crime oriented or your going to find a very small and wierd fanbase
I dig the riffage, hire someone to write better lyrics
I heard shenanigans like that goes on at DOA partys
Sorry for all the edits, just tough being happy for you when you tell us to watch a vid like that as a sample of what is to come
I was not offended, more like WTF? Are you kidding me? but it was a very offensive video
If your good enough to play with them, then your good enough to actively find a better gig while your playing with these guys (or take over the writing)
Sorry man, you know I love you anyway |

ahaha... come on where's the sense of humor?
all the music is humor based.. definitely check out this album
http://bigstall.bandcamp.com/album/american-terrorist
it's not quite as out there as the vid I posted
the whole album is seriously good.. track 2 and 3 are good indications of the type of music we generally play.
Ron.. the lyrics are actually quite clever (maybe not that song lol)
I've never, ever been a fan of comedy bands. I gave this band a shot and I'm really glad I did. The music is phenomenal and the comedy aspect takes a backseat to things. |

Smellin' sour
The Sh*t flower
I will say the music is great of what I have listened to and I dig the Revolutionary War Era theme |
oh man that made me laugh.. couldn't make it through the song though. I can see what you're saying in regard to the first song I posted.
American terrorist has gotten a lot of great comments, people dig the revolutionary era theme and it's really well put together. its very funny when you listen closely, but most importantly the music is killer.
i'm just really glad I joined this band. like I said, first band, and my whole life I've been nervous playing in front of and around others. with these guys it's not all dead serious so it's much easier to relax and just play/have fun. |

I like my humor without guy on guy action sorry. The fact these 2 guys sat around and thought hey lets make a video where one of us gets raped is weird then deciding who gets raped is just puzzling to me.then going through with acting it all out is just way far past the line for me.then putting it out on the net as a representation of your band is beyond me.You do realize that for allot of people this may be the first impression of your band they see right? Like me some people may not find this interesting sorry bro just being honest.I really dont think many people will see this vid and go hey I need to hear more from this band! I think most will feel just the opposite.Half way through I was like eeeeeew and the quality of the song was the last thing on my mind.I had to fight to get through it and i only did cause a fellow dean brother posted it. |

i really liked it.
i couldnt stop giggling at the nonsensical imagery in the video, and while the vocals werent "the best" it doesnt sound like a band to worried about vocals. which is good cause i dug the band as a whole, doomy and good rifss.
thumbs up dude |
