For rackable effects, like noise gates for drums, compressors, etc... What are you guys using? Anything highly recommended?

I have an onboard verb for the vox, only thing I'd like to control a little better is the drums, and I figure a compressor, and a noise gate are my best bet there.

Suggestions?

We used to use an Alesis D4 for some of our drums and trigger them. It's a lot more control over mic'ing them and it has an independent gate and compression for each drum. You just have to buy triggers for each drum instead of mics. You can find them used really cheap and they sound awesome. The best part is the kit sounds the same every night because the drum sounds are set in the D4.

Did you trigger all of them? And then use a couple of overheads for stereo brass?

Easy Peasy, Simply Sqeezy! Laughing And the best part is for shows in smaller places you have amazing control over the kit. Just thrown on 2 overheads and call it a day.
