I've tried the Peace Sells vmnt and I was wondering the weight difference between the 500 dollar vmnt vs a 1000 dollar vmnt? Also what type of frets are on the higher grade vmnt?

There is a difference but it's not drastic. It's heavier but that's mainly because the body on the lower end one is some kinda basswood that's not very dense. It's not a back breaker like a solid body Les Paul. The frets feel like medium jumbos. Basically other than the basic shape it's a different feeling guitar. Don't let that scare you off, it's a decent upgrade over the less expensive model.

I'd go for the higher end model if you can afford it.

Yep, sooner or later you will want to anyway. Personally, I'd save up for a used USA model, it's a buyers market so don't limit yourself to the just the VMNT if your out there for a serious guitar for the money
