HNGD I love my tele. Does rock quite convincingly, especially 80s stuff. So you found an Am Std for less than 800? |

I have a set of non-custom shop Texas Specials in my American Special tele (the stockers). I see no reason to change them. They do cleans well, they are hot enough to have fun with. If anything I'd just rewire the pots to get rid of the whatever they call it special feature that's supposed to make the earth's rotation reverse when the tone knob is turned down. It doesn't work quite as advertised. |

My Custom Shop Deluxe has the "Vintage Noiseless" set installed from the factory. A lot of people say those lack the punch and twang of the noisey versions, but I like them just fine. I have zero inclination to change them. They have all the vintage Tele tone I need, plus they are dead quiet with any level of gain. I love them. They kick ass over those Samarium Cobalt pickups that came out a year after I got that Tele.
I have a set of stock standard (import I assume) Tele pickups in my first relic part-o-caster Tele, and they sound meh. Not a fan of them. They will eventually get replaced
My newest butterscotch part-o-caster Tele has some stock Squier Tele pickups in there. They sound quite excellent actually. Very much like a vintage tele tone. Lots of snap and twang, just like they outta be. I just threw them in there initially to see how the build came out, as I had them on hand. But they are quite tasty.
However, I have a set of GFS "Hot Lead" Lil Puncher pickups I just got in for that guitar. They are similar to a hot rails design in a tele configuration, but with goobs of high output. The bridge pickup is like 14k. The demos I have heard of them sound most excellent, and I am very excited to hear them once I get a chance to slap them into my tele. |

I bet they do! The mace is a beast. If you have a chance try the Tele out through a Peavey Classic 50. Not the new ones with that lip on the top of the cabinet. Both the 50 with a 15" in it or the 50 with the 10's.
The vintage noiseless are pretty cool. They seem to fit well with Teles-at least to me. |

160 all tube watts kicks some major ass. I don't know what it has for tubes but it sounds really good. |

It's funny you mention that about the tubes. I had a mace for years and not once did I even check what it was running for tubes. Gotta love how they aptly named it. That thing was a mace to your face of goodness. Loud is an understatement lol. |

The Dean was a little over 800 the tele was 999 I used a coupon for 150 off.. but I could have used the coupon on the dean but the USA had me all gitty like a school girl
so no it wasn't cheaper it was just a better deal in my eyes
heres a few pics I uploaded to FB
The case is AWESOME!! TSA flight ready and it came with all the case candy a player could ask for.

Im absolutely in love with this guitar and I've had a good amount of play time so I have to say this is my new go-to guitar. I'm restring it tonight with some super slinkys but I was wondering if I oil the maple fretboard like I would rosewood? It doesn't look dry and seems to have some kind of clear maybe? I don't know.. I just know it has no fret buzzes, no extra pickup noise, and great tuning stability. The neck feels great and the frets ends are nicely done. The only thing that bugs me is the output jack only will take a straight cable end, the 90 doesn't allow it to fully plug in. I like to tuck my cable behind the strap when standing and when couch playing a straight jack doesn't really work out.
I'd like to install a wireless system into the control cavity so I can have the "look ma no cables" look. It would really work out good for when I'm in my wheelchair, I've run over and ruined too many cables thru the years.
I'm already looking at the matching strat for next year. |

I'd sacrifice my left and maybe right nut to go back in time and not sell the tele that I used to have. |

I can't remember where I saw them but they do have the aftermarket jack that you can use with a 90 degree cable. I'm going to ask my bud about it because I think he did the same thing you are looking to do. |
