FINALLY. Engl E530. I've had this thing for probably five years but never bought a power amp for it. I've always just used the built in 1W power section. I've started probably 5 threads about power amps because I kept thinking about pulling the trigger. well now that I've got a band and a reason, I finally bought a rocktron velocity.
It is evil! I almost sold it a few times as I didn't think the engl was anything special and didn't need it. but am I glad I kept it. an actual power amp certainly brings out a better tone from it. Thursday I will get a chance to try it out with the band.
question. does it matter what order I power on the pre and power? I figure pre first to avoid a volume surge to the power, but I dunno. |

The amp should have a delay before power goes to the output. The amp's fuse(s) should protect it but better safe then sorry. Pre on first to prevent a spike but if you are using a REAL conditioner, this should be a non-issue |

Pre-amp then power-amp. This way you'll avoid any popping noise through your speakers. When you're done, power then pre. Same reasons. You're dealing with solid state except for the pre-amp tubes but those won't get hurt. |

I need to get one of the Engl thingy s as a backup for my Piranha. Great choice in a power amp. I love my Velocity 300, and it's quiet too. |

I have some old clips of it minus the power amp. nothing new yet. hopefully our band will be recording in the near future. otherwise i could always just throw up a riff. |
