Since the guys from HQ have the 2013 Catalog http://www.deanguitars.com/pdfs/DeanGuitarsNew2013_web.pdf
i figured we could start a new thread. post your likes dislikes & what not & what geets youre most excited for!

Just found this http://shop.deanguitars.com/c/new-for-2013_electric
today this should take care of pricing questions so HQ doesnt have to keep stopping by. i know you guy are workin very hard right now

I myself am very thankful this year was not all about signatures & graphix everywhere. the new Chicago series looks awesome! The DCR stuff has yet to really disappoint me just makes me want a job even more lol. I dig the straight six series...all but the V really. The Z looks amazing with the straight six HS. i always kinda thought the split HS made the neck seem shorter. The Custom series has some new additions some that i really want. the 750 is right up my alley as well as the 450FM cant wait to see the natty pics. like the move to more maple boards this year too. the Vendetta just pops. the Graphyte series is ok kinda reminds me of KFK's BCR's. i Freaking love the VMNT double neck Diadem. it's a little cartoony lookin but i love it. last thing ill bring up because of this ever growing post is the Colt hollowbody...one word....WANT

I'm most excited for the USA Trans AM... That's a guitar I would rock every day. The straight 6 series looks awesome too.

I dislike the Gran Sport because it just doesn't look right, and I dislike most of the graphic guitars.

I like the Gran Sport, dislike the "c" neck
I like the "Chicago Series" imports with Ebony and V neck
I like the T Breds, dislike the "C" neck

I like less graphics and sigs.

Overall, bravo Dean Guitars!

DiMarzio Super Distortions again... I wonder what happened to Pat Baker's pickups? I love Super Distortions though.

And what's the difference between the USA Chicago guitars and the Dean USA Series?

Either way, they lost me on new purchases when they went to the BFHS.

I really like the guitars that bring Dean back to the roots like the Chicago series. The DCR ML will be mine, and that says a lot because I have not purchased a new guitar in many years! I am not a fan of the straight 6 personally, but it is not an ugly guitar by any means. Just not my kind of candy. I am glad as well that there aren't as many sig series, or at least there is more of a choice in non-sig series. I also like the floyd 1000 series bridges that are being put on the floyded guitars vs some knock off that will wear out in a few weeks. Many cool things to look at for 2013. Its the best lineup I've seen imo since about 2004.

I don't see a reason to be pissed. It's not even close to the same guitar, sans the same veneer top. And yours is probably 1/2 the price still.

Bummer dude. I suppose though, it kinda likens to when I ordered my DOA Soltero, there was sposed to be 12, and they built 24 and blew out the remaining ones for 1/2 price.

If you love the guitar then who cares what they did with another run? If a blue flame top on guitar from the same company was enough to actually piss you off then there is a problem there.

Imagine how the people who dropped big $$ on the USA DFH,USA Slimebolt,USA Skulls felt when the import versions of those came out!Like you said Matt the only thing thats the same is the veneer top.But I bet that switchblade does not have green side dots Laughing Laughing

a little yeah.

but im not an irrational douche. there are a few possibilities. maybe they did up the veneer for our run and saw how awesome it turned out and knew they had to throw it on a production run. maybe its circumstance that the color and style we wanted was already being put together for the new ML. ultimately its Deans property to do with as they see fit. but god damnit Sad

When did they make that run? I talk to a dealer about a custom USA back in 07 or 08, and said that top was available for customs

our water V was done in 2012. if they already had those tops available that far beforehand i guess i cant really be upset. but personally i havent seen any deans with that bright blue quilt.

When did they make that run? I talk to a dealer about a custom USA back in 07 or 08, and said that top was available for customs

I see they're redoing (and in USA non the less) the FBD tribute with a top mounted Floyd (and a string tree!) wonder if they'll re-do the Dean From Hell eventually to have a top mount aswell?

Dean's 2012 collection IMO was boring, nothing really caught my eye, but 2013? Wow they really have pushed the boat out! The straight six series? Oh my damn! I'm in love Cool

LOVE the string tree on my USA ML, really stops the note floating when tightening down the lock nuts. I'm glad to see that they are putting them on this USA run!

I think the thing I'm most excited about is the new Chicago Flame series. I feel like since first joining the forum, every year one of the requests that the most people would post up was to redesign the '79 series and give it an update. Well, this is finally that. Ebony boards and V-necks on an import.

That Straight Six Z looks sweet. The Gran Sport, on the other hand, Looks like a SG that rides the short bus. Just terrible.

I think this is the first time they've ever put it (standard equiped) on a USA run! Laughing

Oh boy. They made the Flame series like a vintage Standard series and the Standard series like a vintage Flame series. What a major F-up. You would think Elliot would know better than that.

Of course it makes more sense but it's just wrong. I'll bet Elliott did that as a middle finger to Dean Z. Kind of like when he was playing games changing his name to Elliott Dean. Whatever happened to that ?

I can definetly see why it pisses you off. It bothers me but I will be so happy to get the guitar it probably won't effect me unless someone I know shows up with one but that is highly unlikely around here. besides I always liked the trem back in the day but would not buy one now.
2012 DFH with dimebucker is a prime example of a guitar I would never buy. I like everything about what Dime has done and the original DFH is cool but it just does not fit my lame azz style. Lol

I do like the graphic on Dave's Zero, Chicago Flame, Custom Run and the straight 6 "V" would be at the top of my list.

Lol

I do like the graphic on Dave's Zero, Chicago Flame, Custom Run and the straight 6 "V" would be at the top of my list.

ill get over it. ill love my axe regardless. i guess it would have been nice for us to get our awesome new toys in hand before seeing that such a wicked top is gonna get streamlined. it might seem silly but its like when your own private intrest thing makes it to the big leagues. i dunno. ill probably get the switchblade too. i like the hardware features. but the more i think about it the more im sure that the similarities were ripped straight from the water V and AL should get some credit.

Verily, Lord Schenker's II fresh weapons do feature'eth designs most unconventional in Dean's MMXIII arsenal!

Ye firste axe hath a facade adorned with ye Oriental symbol of "69", whence each participant pleasure'th ye other with oral copulations. This knight does applaud'eth this erotic rendering enthusiastically!

Ye second axe sport'eth a facade entitled "Kaleidoscope", which appear'eth as if a window of stain'd glass 'twas shattered to bits, then these glass shards re'arranged by ye beak of a blind and drunken chicken!

I say Ye Black Night, but my mind twisted around the conundrum of what you thought of when you laid your eyes upon the imported series known as the "Chicago Flame".. Also if you were to invest currency into such an instrument? Or scoff at the idea and use the instrument as wood to fuel the fire that warms your fanny!

Now that's what I call a good year. Chicago Series looks awesome, I'll have to get one of those Mls. Switchblade DCRs are sweet as well. GAS!!!

I'm glad there isn't as many graphic guitar as there has been previously. But there isn't really anything there that appeals to me. Still, I am only looking at the PDF on my iPhone at work. Will have another look tonight.

Diggin the "Chicago Series" a nice follow up to what was once the "79 Series" I knew these classics could'nt be forgotten for long.

The AXS series dreadnaught, I don't really care for. The grain to me looks like @#%$@!!& up plywood.

Graphic guitars always leave a lot to be desired, don't care for those either.

Of course it makes more sense but it's just wrong. I'll bet Elliott did that as a middle finger to Dean Z. Kind of like when he was playing games changing his name to Elliott Dean. Whatever happened to that ?

It was a big joke...started by Carmine!

Really ? Who's Carmine ?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carmine_Appice

As for using the Elliott "Dean".... look at page 34 of the pdf in the bottom left of the page.

Good catch ! So he went from Elliott Rubinson to Elliott Dean to Elliott "Dean" Rubinson. Laughing

That chicago ML reminds me of the flame series...
'77 re-issue...

Are they going back to their roots a bit? I like.

Still seeing lots of graffix, but not as many as last year.

Good job, Dean Wink Much more professional as I'm not seeing any $200 ML-X's or V-X's here. All good quality stuff.

I just hope these import Flames and Standards are still made in Korea and not in the Cort Indonesia sweatshop. Those 2 and the Switchblade look quite nice. Gotta say, Dean is doing a nice job with the DCR guitars(except for the purple people eater Razorback).

do not see anything I would buy. glad there is less graphics, so that's a plus. that "SG" looking guitar is awful. looks they have stepped it up a bit but nothing jumps out at me.

Bummer dude. I suppose though, it kinda likens to when I ordered my DOA Soltero, there was sposed to be 12, and they built 24 and blew out the remaining ones for 1/2 price.

Same happened with the Trans Red ML Basses. People like Brad and myself and a few others shelled out Big $$ to have them blown out at less than half price!!! s#%t happens!

I'm glad to see a stealth back on the list. Does anyone know what the street price of the USA Chicago Series guitars will be? I'm wondering if they are painted abroad and a little cheaper like the 1000 series or if they'll be $2k+.

I love that they are going back to Dimarzio pickups, for some of the models.

Don't get me wrong- I think that Pat Baker's pickups are incredible. I really do like them, and would actually like to see MORE models. But, the real Super Distortions do add that bit of authenticity, to the Chicago Series.

Prices not bad on those DCRs. I can't buy any more guitars for now until I have time to play again. Probably going to save up for a USA or custom shop down the line, although the #7 and #8 are very tempting.

Ready to see the neck joint comparison?

How about a video to prove my point. The headstock is not an issue with me, as long as it's not that shrimpfork design. The soggy crotch didn't bother me either on the imports, for it gave the guitar a different sound.

Very impressed with what dean is doing this year. easily the best new line of guitars that they've ever put out, that I've seen anyway. Didn't think I'd ever spend another penny on a dean, but I'll definitely be getting my hands on one of those blue switch blades soon. The straight line series also looks amazing, especially that Z!

I'm pretty jazzed about that import Chicago Flame! I wonder how the Cherryburst will differ from it's USA counter-part (Look-wise).
