Matching sets

Do you guys try and get a matching set of guitars.

Like Ml, Z, V all in the same finish?

I havent done this yet but I always think of it.

Right now I want the matching strat to my tele and I still want the Black & Gold Z, and ML to go with my V.

Nice! Are they all setup the same? String gauge and tuning? Same pups as well?
I'm going to grab a strat to match my tele this year. They will both be in E but with diffrent pups.

'04 Dean Z Pro and a '97 Hamer Standard both have Mahogany bodies/necks and no flametops...

'01 Hamer Standard Custom and '03 Dean Z Time Capsule...

'94 Hamer Special HB and '95 Hamer P90 Special....

A few others also....

I'm somewhat of a collector some would use the term hoarder but I throw my trash away. When I get into a hobby I go full tilt, kinda crazy at times. I tend not to sell things even if I never use it. I have 3 bass guitars and I never play bass. I'll pick one up and noodle but when it comes time to jam I'll either play my one of my guitars or my drums.
With all that being said I guess I could have a problem but I enjoy it.

I've seen some awesome collections here on the forum so I know I'm not alone. I just have the budget collection.

i personally dont like to have more than one of the same thing. i like variety even if its just a different color. like for example i got about 5 differend archtops but they are all different, one is my orange gretsch, my white falcon, my 66 gretsch thin clipper, my 60's kay swingmaster and my dean (es175). they all have different paintjobs, pickups, and all around different vibes

I agree on not have duplicates of the same guitar but to have the different shapes of a series that was put out ex B&Gs just the same finish. Each guitar would have a different personality with pups and tuning.
I just think it would be cool,

Yeah, I do the same thing.

I had to have all the Gibson Gothics SG, LP, Explorer, and V.

But I don't exactly have all of them, there was semi-hollow ES or something too, but I wasn't into that one.

I suppose this is a matching set too.

When I got my Faded SG with the ebony board and Crescent Moon inlays, I had to have the V too. And if they had an LP and Explorer I'd probably have those too Laughing

They're all set up the same, but have different pickups. The V has a reverse zebra hand wound set of the original Michael Schenker DiMarzios by Steve Blucher for Mick Donner. The ML has the Duncan JB and '59 set, and the Z has Super Distortions.

well yeah i see what you mean. for me though i do paintjobs so repeats would make me look like a one trick pony Laughing

On a different note, Im looking at a hollow body. It will be my first, what are some things to look for?

depends on the kind of tone you want.

my first hollobody was my gretsch 5120. that thing has such natural twang and growl that you get that rockabilly sound without having to plug in. thats the same for pretty much all of the gretschs ive had.

on the other hand ive got a dearmond x155 that has no tone post inside like the gretschs do. its deeper and that gives it more of an acoustic guitar like sound. its also got a wooden bridge that gives you a real jazzy sound.

the other one ive got is a dean palomino which is pretty much an es 175. i slapped a dogear p90 on it and i get that scotty moore tone just like that. it too is deeper than the gretschs and doesnt have a tone post so it also has more of that acoustic sound. however this one has a tune o matic in it which gives it some twang and some growl and you get a good slapping sound out of it. im working on being a picker so this dean is good for that.

i have had one ibanez hollowbody and even though it was a well built guitar it kinda was more aimed at a generic rock type of player. not what i was looking for for a vintage tone at all.

even though hollowbodies are pretty much built the same they all have their own personality when it comes to tone. i pretty much always play a hollowbody nowdays and most of the time i dont even plug in. they can be really fun guitars
