Hey guys any one messed with kt88 tubes here??? need to re tube my head i JUST got from some douche on ebay. never messed with them.. eurotubes said jj but thats all he sells lol. That dude is a knowledgeable guy so maybe he is right

this . plus JJ tubes are aweful. you know your tubes suck when peavey stops putting them in their amps and switch back to sovtek.

EH all the way. I have a set of EH kt88s in my savage. they are so loud and headroom for days.

EH make the best kt88s and 6550s on the market. check any audiophile highend stereo amp site. Most will tell you they are the best out there in over 40 years.

I was thinking about putting KT88s in my Randall RM100 and asked Rob at Jaded Faith mods what brand he would recommend, and he recommended the EH KT88s too.

Did not want to say anything till the deal was done. Got this amp off some kid for 800. Asked him ten times if it worked ect. Most people dont re tube there amps and this one having kt88 tubes they are pricey . So to make a long story short amp came i plugged into it and it was making popping noises and a tube was glowing red.. pulled out the bad tube ,took two good tubes and put them on the left side and turned it on. amp worked fine. swapped the good two tubes to the right side and walla. amp works fine and just needs tubes. Also found some mod that kind of works like a hot plate that i will be removing today. I paid the kid paypal and was so pissed off i went to paypal to file a claim to see he never got the money as it said user not registered ? wtf so i canceled the money and got a refund. So now i have the amp and the money lol. called the kid and told him whats wrong with the amp and he said .. i had no idea dude..lol he said if i still want it give him 250 for it .. I said moneys on the way man lol. weird deal

Got a matched quad off jj kt88 tubes on the way next day from dougs tubes. $175 ouch

I want to touch on something that Bloodroot said. I too use EH tubes. There may be more expensive and slightly better sounding tubes on the market, but EH tubes have the thickest glass. They are built extremely tough. I had never thought about that until I read a side by side comparison online. The reviewer said that if you were taking an amp on the road, he would recomend EH tubes hands down. Something to think about.

P.S. But congrats on the amp. New amps are always a lot of fun.

Well i HATE eh 12ax7 pre amp tubes with a passion but never tried there power tubes.. there pre amps sound like s#%t . I have a box of 12ax7 tubes and always go with tungsol ,jj,selvaina, Spelled wrong lol

The reissued Gold Lion KT-88s, if you can afford them as they are more money, are the best on the planet

If you can find a quad of original NOS Genelex Gold Lions, expect to pay about a grand for them

Just placed an order with Dougs tubes as he is only 6 hours from me . Next dayed them $170. So i just removed that below 70 IQ type ass mod. What it was after looking at the wiring it was by passing the master vol so acting like a hot plate if you would. Still don't no what the hell the jack on back was for? I removed it all and the master vol did not work had to unsnap the board to find one prong on the master vol pot was disconnected from the board. soldered it back and wallah. Back to stock. Why the %$#@! would some one do that to this amp?? maybe it was some hack fx loop?? I still dont no Shocked

Well i HATE eh 12ax7 pre amp tubes with a passion but never tried there power tubes.. there pre amps sound like s#%t . I have a box of 12ax7 tubes and always go with tungsol ,jj,selvaina, Spelled wrong lol

each to their own. Ive never liked a tungsol. I bought 6 of them once and threw them in the trash. they were muddy and microphone. had no mids at all just wierd low end overtones and shrill highs. never liked jj tubes. svetlanas are just rebranded eh tubes that didnt pass quality control. nice score on the amp though.

I understand tubes just fine. I'm not the one making a thread asking for tube advice. I have alot of tube experience and have tried tungsols in multiple tube head over the years. just cant stand them. Not liking something doesnt mean you dont understand it. getting back to the topic of the thread. EH kt88's ftw.

I've had EH, JJ, Ruby, Tung Sol, no brand chinese...think that's about it.

Got the kk up and running today . went with jjkt88 tubes. This beast has 546 plate volts!! Shocked

ended up at 44ma . 35 watts a tube. (MARSHALL) confirmed that they send them out at 30ma Laughing

guy said he does not no why?. any how mine was at 32 and sounded small if you no what i mean. 44ma is .7% and it sounds great. tryed all different pre amp tubes and it LOVES! jj pre's also!!. With my od808 and with the beast mode on all EQ'ed what a frippin monster this thing is!!! my friend has a 85 2203 came over and was shitting his pants on how it sounded Laughing

He is haunting me to sell it to him haaa

i read somewhere that sovtek with the letter r(russia) in the model and svetlanas come from new sensor corporation. Sovteks with the letter c in the model number, those are rebranded ruby tubes from china.

I just retubed my marshall with eh tubes they sound way better than the jj tubes i had
