all good and all but it still has that digital sound to it. its really really close but the dynamics, something that gives it that boxy sound. i cant even explain it but the digital is there and the soul is not. some of it may have to do with his terrible stock drum samples on drum superior but there is something missing. enough missing to complain about, probably not but if we are critiquing, there it is or isnt. the box is probably more than plent capable of replacing a real amp if you dont mind the sound of monitors, side wedges and all. def good enough for some home recordings. there is my stamp of approval/dispproval.

I gotta agree it all sounds like different mid settings of the same sound lacking warmness, low end.judging from this video not very impressed.Chris is right sounds very digital to me.

Everything sounded pretty much the same besides a touch of EQ... of course he's probably going after a similar tone anyways.
Besides that, I'm listening through a set of computer speakers with a basic sound card. It's pretty hard to honestly critique something with a system like this.

Hmmmm... Sounds fine to me. But then again, I don't have the Elite ear that the rest of you do, that can locate minute differences in soundwaves that most dogs can't even discern.

I am hardly going to tell the difference without the demo of the original amps and in the same way, but to be honest it's hardly going to change the fact that it sounds like every other guitar recorded to CD. It's been processed and is no longer live if that makes sense.

Totally nothing wrong with that it's just the stages the guys used to produce this video.

Personally on another note if he was to mix up those sounds and publish it the same i bet not many people would notice the fact they were not the correct amps.

If I gave you two links, one for the real amp and one for the Axe Fx II amp and asked that you identify them...could you?

A lot of value there, especially if you have a home setup like that for sound reproduction. It sounds crystal clear, wish I could afford one digital sounding or not. I just think it sounds more crisp for lack of a better word

nope not in a fabricated test designed to trick or make you lose but in a real studio recording. Id say your chances would greatly increase.

No tricks. They’d have to be set up identical, AXE FX amp/pedal chain vs. the real amp/pedal chain. This would be an honest attempt to validate whether we could differentiate one from the other.
While I agree we would hear some difference between the two...I just don’t think it would be that simple to identify which is which. I know I probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Or worse...I'd probably like the Axe FX better. Laughing

youre probably right. for example chevelle has the worst mesa mark iv sound ive ever heard on their recordings. the axe fx versions i have heard sound better.

the high gain sims always seem as if someone recorded a great guitar tone and turned it into a 192kb or less mp3. thats about as close as I can describe the axe fx high gain tones. yea they are pretty good but just missing something. like a copy of the mona lisa or something.

Yeah? Well, I can make a Fender Twin Reverb sound good. As long as I run an Amptweaker Tight Metal through the clean channel Laughing

either way. I wouldnt mind having one. Cause I am not good at micing an amp and making it sound great. I could have benefited from an axe fx. I know I'm a hypcrite.

Back to the topic at hand...I'd like to hear each without the OD or distortion pedals.
That said, the 5150, Powerball, and Splawn sounded best to me.
Of course, when gigging most venues, there would be less than 1% of the audience that could hear the difference.
Nothing I heard there makes me want to trade out my Carvin.

BADASS Guitar! Thanks for sharing.

Regarding digital pre-amps & processors.

I find it interesting that as often as I have been attracted to the sounds of these units (and cash disbursed on same), I always seem to return to the MESA QUAD preamp I have owned for so many years - straight in/ NOFX into a big Mesa 395 tube power amp and 4X12 cab.

Every time I come back to my mesa rig after investigating and frequently being fooled by the next digital solution I end up saying "WOW, my rig is awesome!"

I cannot describe that which the digital units lack; I don't deny the potential they have or adaptability to new and varied sounds and suitability for a touring/studio professional, ease of recording, etc....just that when it comes to making some ROCK, I'd rather have my MESA!

Oh what a difference a year makes... with a dozen updates and major jump to the New Axe II...

http://www.deanguitars.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=86555&highlight=digital

Not...

I just noticed that thread has had a lot of replies removed... too bad, they were hilarious.

Still probably the best there is though, and I'd still love one...

Don't get me wrong....if money were no object, the AXE FX II would be on my list. In my reality, choices need to be made due to financial constraints...and I would rather acquire a new guitar than an amp or amp modeler.
