Really nice amp. I had one for a couple of weeks, but returned it. The clean and the mild overdrive sounds were awesome. There was just something I didn't like about the sound with the lead button pushed in. Other people love it though. If I ever have $600 kicking around, I may buy another one just for the clean channel. |

I like the gain it in. It's not what I would call a really high gain, but I have the Tight Metal for that. That doesn't mean it can't get heavy though. |

Yeah, I haven't experimented too much with the gain on it- a little when I first got it. If I wasn't so lazy, I'd do that some more. I've found a clean setting I like and have relied on the Tight Metal for the gain. |

It doesn't need a boost for that if you have high output pickups. We did some pre-production recording with the one I had and didn't use the gain over 12:30. In that clip I showed you a while back the gain was at 11 O clock. Granted I have Blackouts in my guitar but still. |

You can upload MP3 files there for free. You just gotta make an account, which is free as well. |

Im also interested in the 18 watt head. I got a job offer a couple of weeks back for a well paid 14 month contract during my degree. And I could be tempted to treat myself to a smaller amp than what I already have. This coupled with a 112 or 212 could be fun |

I posted a few vids of the 36 but only with my digicam. The only recorded tones I have are on preproduction for the new album so not guitar alone. |

Congrats on the amp man, you're gonna love it.
I saw the vids Lanning did with his 36, and it pretty much helped me make up my mind that I wanted one. I waited a little bit, and found a good price on one. I used it out for the first time last night and I was pleasantly surprised to see how well it held up against my buddy's 100 watt head. Definitely very happy with it.
I messed around with the 18 when I was shopping around, and that was a pretty cool head too. I just wanted as many watts as I could possibly get. Lol. |

I played both and liked both but i just felt for the price the 18 was what i was after. It really has a big tone to it and pushes my 4x12 recto cab pretty good lol. Its really made nice to. It sounds great with a clean boost up front, amp gain 11oc. The red box is great also. You just need to try one out . |

With the 36 you're really only gaining reverb and midi control. The extra power is cool but feature wise it's just the reverb and midi. |

that dude cant eq lol He has the gain way to high for running a clean boost. I found half way is MAX!! just turns to much after that. the clean boost make it handle all the bass the amp has and DEFIANTLY adds more tight brootal tone. |

I dig that sound. Time to put aside the Tight Metal for a bit while I fiddle with this some. |

I tried to embed this video, but it didn't work:
I recorded this video of Mouth For War yesterday after spending a couple of mins figuring it out by ear. It isn't perfect, and there's no solo, but that's beside the point. Anyway, I used my Tubemeister 36 through a Bogner 2x12 cab, on the lead channel (36 watt setting), with the gain maxed, volume at about the 7 oclock position, with EQs between 11 and 12 oclock. Used my phone to record it; posting from work with no actual audio, so I can't tell you how it sounds.
ScottMexico, you and a few other guys may have seen this already.

Would the tubemeister 18 COMBO (not head) at 1 watt be quiet enough for bedroom use and not wake up neighbors in the adjacent apartments? |

I'll agree. It's good for bedroom playing, but still packs a decent amount of power in that one watt if turned up loud enough. |

If I remember correctly, the Tubemeister 36 has an extra preamp tube. I don't know if it's for gain or just a driver for the reverb etc though. |

3 12AX7s in the preamp, 4 EL84s in the power section on the 36.
the 18 has 2 12AX7s in the preamp, and 2 EL84s in the power section.
I would imagine the third tube in the preamp on the 36 is for the crunch channel, which the 18 doesn't have-- the 18 has clean and lead, with a boost function on the lead channel.
These specs are all from the HK website. |

Anyone have or try the tubemeister 5 combo?
Is it quieter then the 18 combo?
The 5 goes down to 5 watts the 18 goes down to 1 watt. Is the 18 at 1 watt quieter then the 5 at 5 watts? |

My Tubemeister 36 head arrived at my shop this morning. Looking forward to getting home, but it's Friday so a drink and smoke on the way home is in order first. Pity it's pissing rain, otherwise this would be a damn good day. |
