Got my hands on a Chicago Flame in Cherryburst! I'm liking the guitar so far, just need to get a B&B in the bridge + lower the action.

Here's a video of me (pathetically) playing some Death riffs on her! http://youtu.be/QkqcvPMGdS0

I'd recommend it for sure! Definitely better then Cherry 79's! Got an Ebony fingerboard (though abit of a light ebony color) and a V-neck!

The Chicago Series are really great. They are basically the same spec as the 35th Aniv from last year, without the red dot side markers. And I think they might not have the real brass V plate. Not sure. They feel pretty damn close to what would have come out in 1981. As someone who has a number of Chicago Vintage USA Deans, I would say they nailed the V-neck very close to 1981 spec. And the Ebony is pretty much the light stuff Dean has been using on the MIK stuff the last few years, but it feels good. Nice guitar. Congrats on the snag.

Doesn't have the brass plate, only the USA's do.

I just noticed something about your guitar. It may just be the angle of the pics but the wing that your arm would be resting on looks really narrow. Like they cut the "crotch" of the guitar off center or something. It looks nice though. Finish and everything looks fantastic.

Why doesn't Dean have the two centre nut slots angled? I never understood that. Of course you can do it yourself but it just seems that it would be an obvious thing to do with how the strings ride. Nice guitar and I dig you riffing on the old Schuldiner stuff.

My luthier doesn't like cutting nuts like that. He'll do it if I specifically request it, but he's convinced that it causes string binding in the nut slots. He says every time he takes off a nut cut that way, that the strings always have bends in them where they ran through the nut.

Nice guitar. I am looking for one, but not many online retailers have these. Not even guitar center has it listed on their website, and they are an official Dean dealer... Did you buy yours online?

Regarding the nut, I have a Hamer Standard and the nut slots are cut to an angle. No binding.

Thanks for the leads, I picked up a cherry one. My first Dean. Great guitar.

After playing it for a couple days, I installed a SD Alnico II on the neck that I had laying around. It suits the music I play better than the DM. I think the SD complements the DM on the bridge very well.
The nut was cut perfectly, and required no filing. Wiring looks OK. 500K Alpha pots with traditional wiring (not vintage) setup.

I bought it with an ML deluxe case, which weights a ton. By far, the heaviest case I have ever had... I guess I'll need to park close to wherever I am playing.
