Just learned that the original crew of "The Mothers of Invention" as heard on amongst other albums, Freak Out and Sheik Yerbouti are coming to my hometown to do a show!
Imagine that! These guys usually play for thousands, and this time they are playing at my local pub!!!
100 tickets go out on sale today, and I'm stuck here at work!!!
Aaaraaraaaarararrgghhhhhh!!!!
I will drive directly from work to the pub and see if I can get my hands on some of the tickets...
Keep your fingers crossed and wish me luck!!! |

Actually, they call themselves "The Grand Mothers", and the members are:
Roy Estrada – bass, vocals, (played with Zappa 1964-1984)
Napoleon Murphy Brock – vocals, sax and flute (played with Zappa 1974-84)
Don Preston – keyboards (played with 1966-74).
The members have been involved in the albums:
«Freak out» (1966)
«We are only in it for the money» (1968)
«Sheik Yerbouti» (1979)
«The man from Utopia (1983)
«You can't do that on the stage anymore» Vol.1-6.
At least, that's what I've read.... |

If I'm not mistaken today is the 10th anniversary of Frank's death. |

Love what Frank stood for in the music industry..."Hot Rats" and "Man From Utopia" are my top favs...out of how many? 63 Recordings
What recording artists can say they did that?
You are gonna try and sneak a camera in right...who is gonna fill in for Frank? |

Will do!
Only problem:
We should probably be listening to Zappa nonstop from now and up to the concert if we want to hear all the stuff has made.....
That's truly a musical career to remember..
Thanks Frank, wherever you are... |

very cool, have a great time at the show
I know that http://www.projectobject.com has Napoleon Murphy Brock and Don Preston as well as Ike Willis in their line up - but they could be doing double duty - great to see someone keep Frank's spirit alive out there by doing tribute shows. |

Sucks that Gail is doing that - Frank is probably rolling over in his grave at the thought!!! I saw FZ half a dozen times in the late late 60's & 70's. Terrific shows every time - the guitar solo on Willie the Pimp is one of my favorites |

Yeah, I read about that PO show being stopped in Portland over on the Zappa Forum - lots of unhappy folks. |
