Hey guys. I know a bunch of you here probably have your own websites and I'm looking to build one for myself. I want something where I'll have my own domain name, at least 250 megs of space, etc. I'd be willing to pay up to like 10 bucks or so per month, with no setup fees or anything. Lemme know if you guys know of anything good. I found this one on my own but don't know what sites are known for their servers going down, etc. and which aren't. http://ipowerweb.com/
Thanks in advance for any help!

hey, I got it for ya...My friend has a reliable server if you'd like to be hosted. He'll take care of you. Umm he charges like 100 bucks a year for hosting which is really good.

His name is goeken and his email is rgoeken@hotmail.com.

I also know of a place that registers your domain for like 8.95 a year which is also good. Unfortunatly my computer crashed so I don't really have any other information saved.

He's a cool guy so just email him about what you want and he'll work out a good deal.

Will

Also I do design and stuff too www.killersnafu.net I can do a full page with hosting for 200 bucks a year if you are interested.

Well, I sent an email as soon as I saw this and haven't received a response yet...no offense to your friend but any web hosting I'm gonna use should be able to respond to my questions w/i 24 hours...especially when it's for them to be making more money! I appreciate the referral tho!
Any more takers?

http://pair.com/services/web_hosting/

Extremely reliable hosting and they're not a fly-by-night operation or running on some guy's Dell in his basement.

Im a web designer an iv been searching for hosting for about 4 years now. I tried almost every free hosting and finally found http://www.cyberpixels.com . One of my client's friends is now opening a hosting site called http://made2own.com/ and they have very good prices. There is also http://www.mediatemple.net but they are kinda over priced.

One more thing. Don't buy the BIG package because you will NEVER use 5GB of bandwith a month. I did the math and here it is. To use up 5GB a month. Say your site is a total of 300k (normal site). For everyday out of the week you will need to get around 75 visits. For ever week in the month those 75 people have to go to your site everyday. Basically if your getting ALOT of visitors then go with a bigger one but don't go and guy the BIG package when u will only use like 1/4 of it. Just speaking from experience.

This one is great because it is free, however it is limited on space.

My experience with Web hosting is you get what you pay for. If you need reliability, going with somebody cheap or free is a huge risk.

Trust me, i've had my site just disappear when a free hosting arrangement changed unexpectedly. Not good. Fly-by-night operations seem to be the norm.

I've had a few sites i work on hosted at Pair for a couple of years now, and they're consistently fast and NEVER down. They have a real data center fully supported by UPSes and regular data backups. And they have really fast customer service. (Emailed questions are generally answered within minutes.)

Pair looks good, but a bit outta my price range for now...I'm still a student and not using the site for business really until I get recording equipment, so I'm looking for cheap but still decent quality. I'm gonna check out my options when I finish finals...probably about a week and a half from now. Thanks to all that offered help!
Alan <--shocked that Mark hasn't chimed in yet...he's probably just away or something

Check out my webhost, Averdata

My plan is 200 meg of storage, unlimited email, 10 SQL databases, unlimited FTP accounts, unlimited bandwidth (and I push that), web-based email, as well as 24/7 monitoring and tech support.
They respond to all my questions well within 24 hours. Their servers are fast and stable. Never had a problem with them. Not a huge well known company but it seems to work in their favor.

As for a domain I'd try Hostaway. They are fairly cheap and offer all the services someone would need.

Dig this. The largest European hosting company has made its way to North America and they are offering the most KILLER deal you can imagine. If you sign up before 1.14.04 you get three years of hosting free. You can transfer an existing domain to them for $5.99 a year or you can even create your own domain for the same $5.99 a year. I've been using it for a couple of months now and couldn't be happier. Ok, that's a lie...the control panel for doing all your shiznit is a royal pain in the a$$ but when you get the drift of navigating it, it's alright.
