holy sh**, this guy can rip.
saw him and his orchestra last night at the Pavillion with my friend dave. played some swing versions of christmas tunes and such. toward the beginning, at the end of a song, he just starts doing some improv, or really well rehearsed solo time. he did it all for about two minutes: lead, rhythm, fret-tapping, he was playing and working the tone knob at the same time for that pedal-like effect. aw man, with that double-bass, it was awesome. if you get a chance, go see him. even if you dont like the music, at least see him for his guitar work. |

No $hit. I remember this Guitar documentary that Skunk Baxter did, and it ended with a huge 500 man jam with solo's by Skunk, Tommy Tedisco (on a mandolin hehehe), Steve Lukather and Brian Setzer. Setzer's soloing was the only one I enjoyed out of the lot of 'em. I guess I just like that old school stuff more.
His solo on 'Runaway Boys' is still one of my alltime favorites. |

PBS ran a really cool live show of his big band orchestra.
The guy is pure to form, and really puts on a show. Granted the genre is an aquired taste, and it's not my first pick, but he's a real class act. Years ago I got to see him as the Stray Cats for a few nights when they shared a ticket with a band I was doing sound for at the time. Cool stuff.
