Hello,
I just bought a gnx3 and have it hooked up to my stereo for a monitor. I've got this cakewalk software but do I really need it? I've done all the panning and level setting on the 8 track, could I just hook the gnx3 up to a cd burner and make a disc w/out mixing down the 8 tracks to 2? It seems like I'm kinda mixing down if I hooked the two outputs to the burner. Yes, I'm being lazy. |

You can do it that way if you want to make adjustments while you are mixing down, OR if you don't have to make any adjustments at all during mixdown. I always have to turn this up for this part, and down for another part, turn this track off here, and on there. The levels during the song always have to be changed during mixdown, at least the way I do it.
Another thing you might consider is not using a home stereo for a studio monitor. It will color the sound, as home speakers are designed to sound good when music is played through them. Studio monitors are designed so that you hear exactly what you recorded, and they don't add or subtract anything from the sound.
