i tried to tune the playmate jtj i just bought my daughter with an electronic tuner and ended up popping a string...
is the tuning for this guitar not standard?
reccomendations for string sizes and tuning please...

I'm amazed you managed to break a string tuning it. with the shorter scale, the tension at standard pitch should be less than a regular guitar. What gauge strings were you using on it? I don't know what the recomended gauge is for that model, but I would imagine that 11's would work. 10's might work, but the tension may be too loose and cause some rattling. |

I have one of those for use as a travel guitar. Standard tuning on mine. The strings are cheap so I put on a set of Martin Bronze .10's and tuned regular. Also, use some graphite on the nut, a #2 pencil works great. The cheap thing sounds pretty good for a plywood top guitar. Tuners are rough and geared high, feel like a 1:4 ratio. I have picked up a set of better tuners off e-bay but haven't got them on yet. |
