I can take some doses of the Ramones - that's about it. If not metal, I'd listen to classic rock or some texas styled blues. just my 2 cents.

Check out the O.C. Supertones disk "HiFi Revival." Contemporary ska with an Elvis Costello feel, plus horns. Very nice.

I was lucky enough to have seen the Ramones and the Runaways on a club tour back in 1978, from about 10 feet away. Judging from VH1, the last 25 years haven't been too kind to Lita Ford and Joan Jett.

I agree with you on the aging process not being kind to those two - Lita used to be my superdroolchick Twisted Evil

I've always loved Sublime. You've surely heard many of their songs. They have a dose of punk, a dose of Reggae (although I'm not a big fan of Reggae, but it works in this application), and little amount of ska. I don't really like ska or reggae a whole lot, but for me, Sublime is the ultimate good time music. It always makes me feel like I'm sitting on a beach somewhere.

Wow, no Sex Pistols? Ok, they only have one REAL album, but it's killer, IMO.

MISFITS!

AFI is my favourite band next to metallica. they come in second, they're awsome. everyone complains about how Sing the Sorrow isn't punk, but it's still a friggin good album!

Five Iron Frenzy were very cool...they broke up about ten days ago, unfortunately.

I'm much more punk than ska but I dig Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, The Specials, anything rock steady basically.

Punk wise - Fear, The Germs, Sex Pistols, Clash, The Ramones, Rancid, and I'll throw G.G. Allin in for good measure.

I know this will be unpopular but I always liked Reel Big Fish. Tres excellent ska. Check em out live if you get the chance.

Goldfinger are kinda cool, I still listen to the first Green Day record (I know I know sheesh Rolling Eyes ) Sublime are good too.

I suggest regressing back to Sabbath and Motorhead if you haven't already. There's a stack of good sh!t from the 70s that I've been reviewing of late. Mainly old King Crimson and Led Zep. I think it's good to draw from unfamiliar influences. Keep listening to it all man.

I haven't heard alot of AFI, but the few clips I've checked out have been pretty cool. I'm a sucker for a gimmick I guess... Rolling Eyes Laughing Twisted Evil
