Since some of you folks may be traveling for the holidays next week, I'll get this out of the way today. Take your pick as to which applies to your personal beliefs........
Merry Christmas
Happy Hanukkah
Happy Kwanzaa
Festive Winter Solstice
Happy Groundhog's Day - it's early, but better than missing it
Happy (fill in the blank...........)
Have a safe and happy holiday season. Whatever you do, don't drink and drive. And don't eat the fruitcake.
Regards,
Jim |

Thanks Jim.
After wrestling with this for several years, I've come to the conclusion that it's perfectly fine to greet someone with the holiday greeting that represents the holiday I celebrate.
I would never ask someone that celebrates Ramadan or Kwaanza to deny their beliefs.
Therefore, since I'm celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, my holiday greeting will continue to be
"Merry Christmas!" |

Well, since I'm Jewish and apparently the only one in Tallahassee, Panama City, Gainesville or Boca, I just say Happy Holidays. No offense, but I'm really tired of getting Christmas stuff shoved down my throat everywhere I go, but I guess the majority's really all that matters right?
Regardless, it's not all of yours' fault (WOW bad grammar, huh ), so HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL! |

UF Dean, that's the opposite of what I meant. Everyone should be able to express their faith. I'm a Christian, and I don't feel I should have to 'water down' my greating to avoid offending anyone. Likewise, if you celebrate Hannukah you should be able to say 'Happy Hanukkah.' |

Sinker,
Sorry if you thought I was referring to your post when I commented on that...you have every right to say "Merry Christmas." As a matter of fact I think you should, but I don't think that it's right that every store has Christmas decorations all over the place, as do the street lamps, ENTIRE MALLS, etc. in all of the areas I've been in this month. That includes Orlando's Universal Studios, which had a "Grinchmas" exhibit throughout Islands of Adventure. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking the fact that these places are "getting into the spirit of the Season," but it's not JUST the Christmas season. I don't see any decorations for ANY other holidays anywhere at all, and THAT is what bothers me. Guess it's just tough to be part of a minority group no matter what the situation. |
