I purchased my first Hardtail a little over a year ago and was astonished by it’s tone and workmanship. It quickly became my favorite axe…. I just had to have another one. What you see here is the newest addition to my extended family, an ’03 ‘tail in Faded Denim. Another amazing piece of work! This baby screams! The pups in it must be different than my quilt Hardtail because it has a tone all it’s own. I haven’t had the time to pull them out and have a gander….. but I will shortly because it just explodes in the bridge position!

Congrats!
Aah, gorgeous guitars. That faded denim looks so wicked! Another excellent flame by Dean. I would love to try one out. I have never been too keen on quilt's, but of course, that one just blew me away.
Need more money

I too, have two Hardtail's. My two sound nothing alike. Mine do have the same pickups, but one weighs 11 pounds and just thunders, the other one is 8 pounds and lacks bottom end to it's tone. Those are two great looking Hardtail's. Congratulations, and enjoy them.

wow - amazing axes you have there. The flamed faded denim is my favorite finish on the hard - the quilt on the other is awesome as well! |

Awesome pair of 'tails Chuck! I have to as well, mine sounded (I did change pickups in one of them), feel very similar and weigh close to the same (8.5 lb.). Although the one with new pickups has become my favorite (Jazz-neck, Custom-5 bridge).
Great pictures too Chuck, I can't get my pics to show the beauty of the guitars.

Nice snag Chuck! If your gonna own 2 of the same model, the Hardtail is the way to go. IMHO, the best guitar Dean is producing right now. |

Beautiful HT's you got there!!!!! I have a beautiful blue flametop myself....it's truly an amazing guitar! Mine has the 59/JB combo in it and it SCREAMS. I'm curious as to what pup config is in yours...did you happen to verify them yet? I noticed you live in NJ too. I live in Essex county, what part are you from? |

I noticed your Hardtail in another post... SWEET!
You live in Jersey as well??? Cool! I live in Hunterdon County... Clinton to be exact. What town in Essex do you live in? I happen to work in Jersey City.
My Quilt has a Pearly Gate in the neck and a JB in the bridge. I haven't gotten around to checking out the Denim yet due to the Holidays and our recent acquisition of another bank here in NJ.... which has been taking up most of my time.

Yup...I live in Bloomfield. Actually, I graduated from Jeresy City State College back in 1996. I'd love to try your ML and a/b/c the HT's some day . I've been GAS'ing a bit for an ML lately. |

on the issue of sounding different. Prime example that the wood does seriously affect the tone. the density and resonance of each piece of wood used in the guitar contribute to its unique sound. Friend of mine plays godins, and he ordered two identical lgx models, and put jb's and jazz pickups in both of them. They sounded completely different, to the point that he though they installed the wrong pickup in one. |
