future value when you pit the three Hardtails against one another? The original Signed ones, regular production models and the Collectors Edition.

What kinda value?...collectability?, $$$?

For me personally...if I became a collector...I'd go for the signed ones first, collectors then regular.

I think the first batch of signed guitars of any run are the most collectable.

i think that "options" will be the defining thing in collectibilty..

there was a prototype HardTail that was for sale on eBay, and it had a regular LP stoptail, and it was bound in creme..

the more unusual the guitar is, no matter what series, the more "collectable" it is..

but, overall.. the signed/numbered editions are the ones to buy..

It depends mostly on Dean Guitars being around 20 years from now and having produced tens of thousands of HardTails. The first 100 and the 150 CE's won't bring much of a premium if only 1,000 HardTails are ever produced. If Dean Guitars isn't around and they don't get some major endorsers, the HardTails will become a footnote in guitar history.

I agree with what has been said. As well as...

The lowest numbers and the first of the collectors. Whichever of the two models is most wanted/desired in the future will dictate value. Don't forget the original prototype(s), the one(s) before #1. I believe that the prototypes, 3 Doors Down inlayed models will be worth the most, followed by #4 and so on.

But, IMO, anyone who bought a Hardtail or Timecapsule for resale value has a long time to wait. Some dealers admittedly raised the price of the last of the numbered Hardtails, once they were close to being sold out. Bad move, IMO. I know of one that lost a sale.

To add to the question...How about "other" prototypes? I have the first of two Violinburst (what Dean Z. called it), which is labeled a "USA Prototype." Prototype for the color but it was #107 made. Actually both of mine were "prototypes" for their colors. Will they have any special value? I personally don't think so and didn't buy them for that purpose. I do believe that they are one of the best guitars made, especially for the price.

I know that I'd already pay more for the very first prototype and #1. But only those.

Tim

I think the original run would be the only collectible ones, and only for the numbers, not the signatures. Seems like every Dean that rolls out the door these days has the signature on it so I don't imagine that alone would add any $$ value. I'm also curious how many of the "Collector's Edition" Hardtails have been sold?

I'm trying to figure out what's still available as far as the Collectors Edition is concerned... Dave from B&T is checking into it for me.

This is essentially the third release of the HT in various forms.. limited, Original Recipe and now the Collectors. I'm trying to distinguish between the three. Obviously the neck is one... but the others are just signatures... hardware... numbers.
