well, thanks a lot, Dana! that's just what i needed to see. i did NOT need to see something that disgusting. now i am going to have to go down to the storage building at 9:35 at night, sign in, unlock the storage unit and spend a couple of of hours carressing several vintage dean guitars just to get the image of that ugly thing out of my head. i hope you are happy now!!! |

Sorry 'bout that Dave. I just couldn't keep this sickness all to myself.
Man, I'd be so embarrassed if I built anything like that I'd burn it before I ever let anyone see it. And he says it's "beautiful!" Ugh!

I believe the politically correct term would be "after their 5th stint in rehab" Fugly doesn't begin to describe that thing. I feel bad for the guy who actually took the time to make it. |

WTF!?
My eyes! my eyes!! Aaaaargh!!!
I quote "Prevent blindness America":
| Quote: |
We want all Americans to be aware of the dangers to their eyes at home, in the workplace and while playing sports.
Thousands of eye accidents happen each day; 90 percent of these are preventable with the use of appropriate safety eyewear.
Because there are good eye safety regulations in the workplace, the home is the source of the fastest-growing number of eye injuries. Eye injuries are almost as great a danger to bystanders as the people using dangerous tools or chemicals in the home. Good eye protection is just as important for those watching you work as for the workers themselves.
|
I'm off to my eyedoctor for immediate treatment! |

Wow if I wasn't quite awake before I sure am now - ouch!!
There's an old saying: "if you want to make a small fortune as a guitar maker you'd better start with a large one" I guess he's taking a different approach. Actuall what made me laugh is this line here:" I am a luthier and have recently started building guitars" |

Storage unit? first it was a wall, then a room, then it was a VAULT now it an entire STORAGE UNIT? Pretty soon your DEAN collection will need it's own zipcode, police station and fire department! |

stop giving away so much information Dave! Where did you say you live again...Texas? OK... so ... how many storage units do you think we have to "hit" before we get to the mother load?!
Secondly, with a name like Cody... what did you expect? |

I'll give him points for effort, but take away points for a number of different things.
It's at least a semi-original idea based on an old design. Those proportions are way off, though. The double-cut design has been butchered, changed and tweaked a lot over the years, but that just doesn't look right.
My junior high shop teacher("Industrial Arts") probably would have given me a "C" on that just to get me out of his class. Then again, he had all of his fingers, so that may have meant he wasn't a very good shop teacher.

Question:
What kind of bridge is it?
Drilled holes in the body with strings inserted from the back??
Wouldn't that result in a kind of woolly sound? (Don't know if that means anything in english, but what the heck...)
Strange solution anyway.... |

Well gee Cody. You might want to get your next gig at the Lighthouse for the Blind.
At least he didn't call it a guitar, since it barely qualifies as one.
Of course, this behaviour is well known and documented throughout history.
Babies routinely bring thier parents little "presents" with the "lookee what I made" exclamation, but it's excusable for them, since that's all they're capable of making.

On closer inspection, I've noticed that there's not even a volume knob and that the right cutaway of the "thing" is higher than the left one...makes it MUCH easier to play right? I would have realized all this before, but my eyes couldn't take too much of that thing at once. |

Remember that episode of the Cosby show when Lisa tried to make Theo a shirt? It looked as bad as that guitar. I mean THAT is one UGLY guitar. If guitars could in-breed thats what you would get. Thats the special ED model.(" I peed in your pool...Yaaaaaaay") It would be cool if the guy was stranded on an island for years and made it from the only tree there was. Otherwise it should be destroyed. Friends don't let friends build guitars drunk. |

I asked the seller where the volume and tone knobs were, where the neck came from, and what the pickup was. Here's his answers:
volume and tone are where there supposed to be
in an equalizer
i dont believe in cutting out the output so you can cut ground out of a guitar
the neck is an ibanez 210 and the pickup is a emg select |

In the name of all that is evil, the thing SOLD for $150! Someone paid MONEY for that.
I can only hope that whoever bought it did so because a) it's so ugly it needs to be enshrined in an ugly guitar collection, or b) they intend to destroy it so that it cannot hurt anyone anymore. |
