From Blabbermouth:
Report: RUSH Guitarist Arrested After 'Drunken, Violent Outbreak' - Jan. 2, 2004

John Henderson of Naples Daily News is reporting thatRUSH guitarist Alex Lifeson faces criminal charges after a scuffle with Collier County sheriff's deputies at The Ritz-Carlton in Naples, Florida on New Year's Eve.

Lifeson, a.k.a. Alex Zivojinovich, a founding member ofRUSH, was arrested after what deputies describe as a drunken, violent outbreak at the posh hotel.

Zivojinovich (mug shot), 50, faces six charges that include aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer with violence, and disorderly intoxication. Also arrested in the brouhaha were his 33-year-old son Justin Zivojinovich (mug shot) and his wife, Michelle (mug shot), 30.

Deputies say they had to use a stun gun on Alex Zivojinovich, 8787 Bay Colony Drive, Apt. 804 in Naples, and his son during the fracas. And in their reports they accuse Alex Zivojinovich of pushing a female deputy down a hotel stairwell during the struggle, and of spitting blood on a deputy's face.

But his son Justin, who was visiting his father on vacation from Canada, gave a very different account of what happened during an interview Thursday night.

He said his father, who was still in the Collier County jail as of late Thursday, had his nose broken by deputies, and as he was spitting out the blood from the injuries, deputies assaulted him again. He also said his father did not push the female deputy down the stairs as stated in arrest reports.

Instead, Justin Zivojinovich said, the deputy tumbled down the stairs as she pushed him down the stairwell.

He said the trouble began after he got up on the stage where the house band was performing at the hotel.

"I was singing Happy New Year's, that's all I was doing, singing to the whole crowd. That's all I said, 'Happy New Year,'" Justin Zivojinovich said. "Everyone was enjoying themselves. That's when someone apparently started yelling for one of the security guards. There was no violence on our part.

"I was ready to leave. I was asked to leave, and I said, 'OK, I'm going to go. I'll grab my wife and be out of there.' They didn't want that. They didn't want me to leave on a high note. They felt they would lose. They decided to aggravate me. They stunned me, as well as my father, with a stun gun."

I never knew that Lifeson was stagename.

Alcohol and anger dont mix. Not to mention the kid sounds like a spoiled brat in the report at Launch.com Here is the Naples Paper's account http://www.naplesnews.com/npdn/news/article/0,2071,NPDN_14940_2547066,00.html Sounds to me like they acted like regular folks with a lil to much alcohol onboard.

it could have been handled better by the cops.. i'm sure that they were drunk, and were being "drunk".. the security guard could have let it slide to an extent, and let them get somewhere in the hotel that would be less obtrusive than a stairwell.. and the cops should have known better than to bring a "violent and combative" person into a stairwell.. that's just asking for problems in containing that person..

should have just waited, and let them act like drunks, then call one out, under the pretense of a billing problem.. then arrest them on the spot.. then send for the others.. and arrest them right there.. split them up and do it one-by-one..

too bad it was Alex Lifeson..

tickets, and a "don't come back" will happen..

I live not far from Naples and I can tell ya from experience...some of the police here operate under the good ol’e boy network in Florida and almost all the so called "Security Guards" ( I call them steroid freaks who can't get a normal job) are more than willing to look for a scuffle.

Who is gonna believe someone who is intoxicated? Even the most credible people loose it when they are accused of something while under the influence.

If someone told me I couldn't get my wife in order to leave an establishment I'd have a serious problem with them!...and that's when I not inebriated.

Rush is a household name, man. If they were accused of running a drug front, I'd still claim their innocense. ROCK AND ROLL! YYZ!
