I had this in the "Newbies" for a couple of days, but no replies, so I thought I would try it here:
I received a new Edge 4 bass for Christmas. No info or papers came with the bass. I know it has a pre-amp. Can someone tell me the functions of the controls (knobs)? My old bass was volume-tone, volume-tone, with a pickup switch, but this is different...
Thanks! |

Hey man and welcome to the boards and the Dean Family. Congrats on your present, it should serve you well. If you have 4 pots, 2 of them should have "nothces" when you turn them. Those two are your bass and treble controls and the other two pots are your volume controsl for each pickup. They'll be closest to the one they control. Hope that helps man. BTW post pics of your bass if you can (un-written rule ) |

Thanks for the reply. That's what I thought they did too, but three of them have center stops. The two next to the edge of the guitar seem to be tone for each pickup, but the one closest to the neck pickup gives more bass when turned clockwise, opposite of a normal tone control. The other one seems to go with the bridge p'up and gives more treble when turned clockwise. They act like volume controls for each pickup, but don't really change the volume, just the tone.
The third one with a center stop is closest to the bottom of the guitar (near the output). It turns the volume down to about 1/2 way turned counter-clockwise and up the other way, with a little bit of distortion if turned all the way up, so I think it is the pre-amp.
The final one, closest to the pickups, seems to be the regular volume, since it controls it from off to full.
Any further help would be appreciated!!!

The very forward knob is volume. The topmiddle knob should be a blend knob, allowing you to blend the pups ( full clockwise is neck pup, going counterclockwise from there, blends in the bridge pu gradually, until you hit the indent... which is both pups together. Continuing counterclockwise will blend into only the bridge pup.
The other tow knobs with indents are EQ (Treble & Bass) for the pre-amp.
Welcome to the maddness....
