Hi, everyone! I have been waiting to see if the old forum was going to be recovered, but I think that at this point I should go ahead and do a newsletter and catch everyone up on what's going on. Needless to say, things have not exactly been what you would call "normal" around here lately. One thing is for sure - you never have to worry about things getting dull here on the Dean Guitars message board.
SERVER CORRUPTION !!!
Dean Z posted a thread about this and said that they were unsure of whether the old forum info could be recovered. I haven't heard anything definite yet, but I, like many of you, feel like it's likely that the old forum info is gone forever. I feel somewhat sad just like everyone else. To me, it's the same as if your family photos were lost in a fire. I used to go back and read the old threads and check out the pics and such. The newbies could go back and read the original forum and actually get a pretty feel for a particular members personality. We do have quite a few "outspoken" individuals and we have certainly had out share of disagreements and some rather "heated" discussions. That's to be expected from such a diverse group of people. But at the end of the day, it's all pretty harmless and most of us get along pretty well.
Let's all just heave a big collective sigh and start over. We have a lot of new members and we have an enormous amount of information, ideas, opinions. We have more people posting than ever. Yeah, it's a drag that Joe lost 6200 posts, but most of them just said "yeah!" anyway. We did lose a lot of cool stuff, but we also lost a lot of pointless stuff, too. That's not such a bad thing.
Dean Z will most likely have something definite this week and no matter what the outcome may be, we can all move forward and continue to share our love of Dean Guitars.
DOA PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS !!!
Last week Jim announced the results of the election of DOA president. I am honored by the vote of cofidence that I received and I will gladly continue to serve. This is a very rewarding for me and I will give it my best effort.
I would like to congratulate Randall and Tone on a pretty impressive showing. While I enjoy being Prez, I was glad to see that they received quite a few votes themselves. This club is all about the members, not the president. I take the office somewhat seriously, but I also consider it an office of service.
A big part of the success of any organization is contributions on the part of all members. For the last two years I took a lot of the burden on myself and often found myself at a loss for quality material. In future newsletters, I intend to ask for contributions for individual members. Several new ideas were discussed during the election process and I believe many were great ideas and should be implimented.
First of all, starting in January, the newsletter will be posted monthly. There will be regular features and columns. With the loss of the old forum, this is a good time to revamp things for a fresh new start. We will feature a DOA member of the month, too. This will be a great way to put a face with the name and get to know each other. Also in the works is "Vintage Dean Guitar of the Month". We DOA members own many of the finest examples of the original guitars built from '77 - '86.
I am also going to a new format for the newsletter. While I certainly don't want to lose the personal touch, I am trying to hone my photoshop skills to make the newsletter look slicker and more professional.
When necessary, a special edition of the DOA newsletter will be posted. I am sure that when DOA III rolls around I won't want to wait until the first of the month to post pics and share the experience with those unable to attend.
I am sure that I can count on all of you to make this the best guitar message board around. The sky's the limit!
Thanks again for the chance to serve as your president. Have a great holiday season!
Brave Dave |

great newsletter dave and thank you for putting it out. This is the kind of continuity that keeps the DOA together. I have recieved you reply one about not posting pics of recent axe purchases. I do feel, however that you can put pics of freash axe purchases in the DOA newsletter.
In case I have confused you, this is what I think should be done. If we could pull it off then this newsletter will have some more meat. I do know that some guitars may seam ordinary orthey can be unique drool inducing items. I believe if we can get pictures of recent guitar purchases, then people won't have to worry so much about missing another great purchase.
These are some of my opinions express as far as improvements for the site. I also encourage all members to support this idea if you want to role with it. (I know you will anyway, but there are disaggreements)
My Idea:
We send you pics of our recent purchases in addition to posting them. You add only one to the newsletter under "recent purchases for the month." I know there are people who, by the nature of their career paths cannot be here every day. This is why I offer this idea to you.
No matter how mundain the guitar, I think that everyone really enjoys the fact that people will post and brag about their new axes. If someone hated their new guitar it would be posted on ebay the following day. Now it may seem like I am upstaging your Newsletter I am not this is a suggestion and more like an editorial. |

Great letter there " "President Dave" " I'm glad to see the possitive spin on the late, [but great] server issue. If we have to move forward so be it! Dean Guitars can only benifit from the increase in members and forum visitors and yeah it's nice to be a "God", but hey - "We're All Bozo's On This Bus" |

I think Greg had done a comprehensive list of the serial number thread. That would probably be the biggest chunk 'o information that would be the hardest to recreate from scratch.
Greg, did you keep it?
Progress is a good thing. It's definitely a fresh start and a good tug on the chain to get rid of a lot of the useless stuff.
Dave, is there any chance of recovering that picture of you, Dug and Joe?

Good newsletter bud!
I'm actually a bit relieved that I didn't get the prez job...... I don't know where Dave get's the time to write that newsletter and still keep it interesting. And (in my own selfish way) it turned out for the best... a couple of my pet ideas are coming to fruition... through the current regime. GREAT!
Looking forward to the NEW AND IMPROVED newsletters..... and remember Vintage Guitar INFO is where it's AT!!!!
